This video demonstrates how truly beautiful Emmylou Harris was then and still is in both voice and appearance. I thought I had the biggest Dreadnought guitar ever made, her's looks bigger.
In 1985, my sister handed me a tape to take on a trip home to MO from LA. It was EmmyLou Harris and this song was on it. By the time I got to MO, I was totally hooked on the song and EmmyLou and have been ever since. I had heard her music before and even saw her live once, but this is the song that made me love her.
Growing up in the 50's, 60's and 70's, I knew all the great country songs. The music of the 50's was good, but the technology was only just beginning to be developed. The 60's saw an explosion of innovation in sound production, inspired by legendary bands like the Beatles, Rolling Stones and so many others. Their music pushed the technology. When Emmylou, Linda Rhonstadt, and Dolly Parton emerged, they were greatly assisted by that technology, but they would have been great even without it.
The great, special artists of our day are around. But radio refuses to play most of them. They are 'too country' or too whatever. Let me point you to two of them, a rising star and my personal friend. On here search for Chris Caskey and Matt Jones.
Is this fabulous or what? I have loved Emmylou's music for many years. Her fantastic voice is unsurpassed and she is so pretty. It would be wonderful to hear music like this today - so many musicians aren't all that special in this day and time - but it makes me wonder if the time of romantic/love songs is over. This song is sad but so well written - just wonderful. There are some good singers of course today but I have yet to find a special one. Thank you for posting this treasure. - Paula
And that ain't a bad thing, I love this song and just about anything Emmylou Harris. There are just too many great songs sung by this wonderful singer. ♥
This song is so deep beyond the words. I felt like my late husband was a lot like this song; very quiet on the outside, but beneath he was not. Just have a special place for this song.
This song has an erotic effect on me. The first time I heard it, I was slow dancing with a girl and all of a sudden, I began to nuzzle and nibble on her neck. I think she probably thought I was trying to come onto her, but I had to explain that Emmy lou had the same effect on me that the Righteous Brothers have on women.
Emmylou is so beautiful. Is she part Indian? She has those wonderful dark eyes and high cheek bones. What a great voice. Makes you feel everything she sings.
she is not part Native American, she was just blessed with her mothers good looks . The really amazing this is that she was in her late 40's when this was taken, a true American beauty.
Oh, lord Emmylou can sing me back home everytime, Emmylou I love you, thank you for singing me back home.
