  • I met these guys. This is their 4 octave marimba. They have a much older and bigger 5 octave marimba. Their grandfather makes and tunes these. I want one....

  • This is definitely a Marimba, but xylophones are also typically made of wood or some type of synthetic wood and are never made with metal. Vibraphones and orchestral bells are made of metal.

  • You are right. "The xylophone was originally modeled after an African instrument and its name is Greek, meaning "wood sound".

    By the way, I actually played vibes for a short while in a jazz class in college.

  • A xylophone?  The instrument was made of wood. That's why I thought it was a marimba. Xylophones are usually metal.
