  • I went to a club where they had dancers, there was a really beautiful girl dancing to this music. She had such beautiful eyes and they were the eyes of danger. Sometimes she could be so nice and other times very moody. One time she told me she had slashed the tires on her ex-boyfriend's car.

  • @whiskeyify bipolar stay away from her

  • I may be young but ik so much better music in the 80s then now! Classics will go down in ages...the music now can just go down the tolet

  • Lovely complex reggae-clockwork sound, well done. Their band was named after the "Payola" scandal in the 1950's America, where music producers bribed radio jockeys to give songs more play.

  • i love this song ........;)

  • 1982. Sophomore year of high school. Killer tune. What a great time to come of age. No internet, no smart phones, no iPods. Just cassettes and great music. I feel sorry for the youngsters today.

  • yeah, i definitely heard The Cure/The Police...it's still the shiznit, if i may.......

  • @Memoryburst well, 70's and 80's

  • i love this song in valley girl!! favorite movie!!

  • A Vancouver-based band in its root origins.

Bob Rock was in this band, as one of its guitarists.

This song won a Juno award for the single of the year in 1983, and probably deservedly so, as this song is a classic that is catchy, and well played on the airwaves.

As thadamajayo said in one of his posts, this song does have a "The Police" flavour to it, although this song is quite a ways more "dark", sort of "bleaker", more "distant" than is most any song that was by The Police.

  • @GmanGregilla is bob rock in the picture?

  • @InfiniteObscurity yeah thats Bob Rock. LOL!

  • I never get tired of hearing this song........

  • @masnart5891 limewire... but you could likely torrent the whole album on isohunt

  • @masnart5891 ya buddy u meant to say bay it!!!

  • OMG! Bob Frickin' Rock - and great heavy metal producer might I add.

  • I saw this video in 1983 just a few times, but the song has remained in my head all these years. I want to add it to my iPod library, but they don't sell it through that site! I wonder why?

  • I'd never heard this song in my life till about 5 years ago... and it, despite being so plain in its nature as to how I came across this song, never strayed from my mind. Easily one of the best songs EVER conceived by man. I would love to see someone try and tackle a cover to this song. 21st century! HOP TO IT!

  • Man I'm lucky I found this, I had the chorus in my head. Good thing the title is the chorus. Nice song. 80s sound reminds me of my childhood.

  • I have said that the 80's is the greatest music decade. I would offer this song as a strong example of why.

  • Miami Vice Season 4

  • This song makes me feel like a ghost.

  • I just watched Valley Girl again the other night. It's been years. I had forgotten about this song. Amazing.

  • deffo used in miami vice.

  • deffo used in miami vice

  • Amazing song.

  • I woke up with the lyric of this song on my head this morning. I don't know why, it has been 30 years or so since first time I heard it, it has bring good memories since high school. When I used to have a huge crush in a green eyes girl. I must of have listen over and over again. YOu got the eyes of the strangarrrrrrrrrrrrrr :)

  • accelleriamoooooo

  • sounds so much like police, love this song

  • I never thought about that, Your so right, I can totally hear why you would think they sound like to police

  • One of my favorite in 1983...

  • I remember the tv show Sweating Bullets and it really SUCKED! The ponytail guy couln't act to save his life - terrible acting ane terrible scripts - and the only reason I remember the show at all is because it had Carolyn Dunn in it who was from my hometown of Sydney N.S.!

  • wasn't this song also used on the first year of Miami Vice?

  • No it was heard in the 4th season Vice ep titled "Badge of Dishonor" (circa 1988.) I think the actress who portrayed Selena's mgr (& eventual murderer) in the 1997 movie "Selena" (starring J-Lo & Miami Vice's Edward James Olmos) guest appeared in that ep. Don't remember her name.

  • First head this tune on Valley Girl the movie. Great sound and lyrics!

    ~Hippie Niecey~

  • Good tunes are timeless. Not like some of the crap coming out these days.

  • Did Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson produce this album?

  • great tune, love it..

  • this shouldve come out now. its almost exactly what alot of electro groups are trying to do. badly.

  • anyone got the karaoke/instrumental version?

  • love thing song but it's a bit too remeniscent of The Police from 79-80 (not a rip off, but obviously an homage to them)

  • I don;t think there is any homage too The Police.I remember seeing The Police in Toronto in 1979 but I don't think they hit the airwaves until about '83.This song came out about '81.Although the sing Paul Hyde is British born but came too Canada in his early life.(BC I believe) and from there The Payolas were born. One of the first to receive a Platinum Record for sales.I've not heard this song in 20 years.Still as good today as when I first heard it.

  • What?!! The Police were first heard on FM & AOR radio in 1978 - at least here in the states!! Maybe they didn't become popular up North until 1983.

  • bucky468,you are making me think here.I do remember seeing The Police in Toronto in 1979.The Payolas soon after.Thinking about songs like "Walking On The Moon" and "Eyes Of A Stranger" but I still don't think there is a Homage,More 2 different groups playing thier own music.

  • Oh...Happy New Year 2010 to you.Take care.

  • first time I heard this song I tought it was the police haha

  • All you guys sound young. Great taste in music, though. Have any of you heard the whole album?..No Stranger To Danger.

  • I was watching the latest episode of Nip/Tuck and heard this song. It's awesome!

  • This song is boss. Shame kids today can't have good music like we old farts did :P

  • Man I'm 17 and I listen to tons of music like this even though everyday I wear band shirts like Slayer, Motorhead and Pantera.

  • R U Caanadian? The name Zamboner, you know...

  • Yep

  • CHILLS with that freakin' intro and outro! The drums the drums the drums!

Good dark music, really urban in feel, but lots of passion. Far, far better than anything out there today.

  • I found about this in a movie staring Nickolas cage and it was kinda of a love movie but it was great :)

  • liked the song then & like it more today, thanks cz.

  • I remember US radio stations not wanting to play the Payolas because of the bands name.

  • An the fact that they sounded like the Police at the time..

  • Never heard The Payolas until now, but you're right, they do sound ALOT like The Police.

Kinda like the first time I heard Coldplay. Their song "Clocks"...I thought it was U2.

  • Re: the drum machine thread - Roland had quite a few boxes on the North Am market at this time - all had sounds similar to what you hear on this intro - In addition, if you 'wiki' the Payola$ you will see that Mick Ronson gets producer nod on this album, to qoute: the Mick Ronson-produced album No Stranger To Danger. Incorporating elements of reggae, pop, punk, and new wave, the LP included a bona fide hit (#4) in Eyes of a Stranger, which later earned the Juno for best single of the year.

  • man, I always thought this was The Police...boy am I an asshole

  • I adore this song. It's atmospheric, moody, sexy...

  • Yeah this song is very hard to find. I heard it the other day on a station that plays really random songs sometimes and this was one of them. Top notch...I couldn't believe I never heard it before.

Such an under-rated and unkown band. Thanks for sharing.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK!!!!!!!!!!!

This song was one of my favorites from the 80's and I went looking for it on iTunes and Amazon, not there! So, glad to find it here, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Class! class!! SHUUUT UUUP!!!! Thank you!

  • "But you acted rude and I looked in your face" should be "but I knew I'd been fooled when I looked at your face." My source? The original lyric sheet that came with the LP. :)

  • Giant steps are what you take....walking on the moon....

  • Right there with the greatest Basslines ever created.

  • The 80s ruled.High school, great music,a dollar was actually worth a dollar, you could get one of those good paying jobs that"no American will do".There were actually girls who were still virgins by the time they turned 18.The beaches didn't close at 10pm,Mom and dad didn't both have to work just to make ends meet, you could actually afford your own apartment on just min.wage and Michael Jackson was still human.Wow,things sure do suck now!

  • you said it man....

  • SO RIGHT.

  • lute760, your comment = quoted for truth.

People think it was just a time for hippy's but they just don't get it. Woodstock then, war now.
