  • They look very good to me.

  • Q MERDA É ESSA, E ESSA BICHA LOIRA FA SERIO

  • In ancient times men learned with a view towards own self improvements

Nowadays men learn with a view towards the approval of others..Do what is best for you and it can't be the wrong decision for your fitness. Greatness comes with lots of hard work.. great video men, test on..Bow

  • Why are all the movements of the Westerners are stiff when they practice Asian martial arts???

  • Karate is a good strong style. You can tell there is power in the techniques. I was hoping the Grand Master conducting the testing would have done a demonstration.

  • Comment removed

  • what is that , kung fu or karate

  • These guys are training. They are trying. They are developing...as are we all.

  • At least try to go lower in stance.

  • I like all these comments, most of all think they are an expert

  • Lack of kime. And their yokogeri seems bad, technically.

  • I thought they were good at sparring. They certainly weren't afraid of taking a knock. I also think we all believe we look better than we actually do!

  • This is for yellow belt ... nothing else to say...

  • i dont study karate, but i do various other arts, and in most it seems they hand out grades a little to freely.

  • I think and can see that these men are doing there best and that is all you or anyone should ask/ or expect of them. This video is designed I believe to capture a moment in time for these men who work at their discipline to achieve their and only their individual goal(s) through their effort. This video speaks for them in that in this moment of their lives they have chose to be there. You may and will judge but remember that your greatest adversary is yourself.

  • Ridiculous even i did better when i was 1st orange belt

  • My dojo wouldn't have let you past green belt, this is dire and shameful. It's a disgrace to an art that men have put their lives into developing and mastering. Stop focusing on getting the black belt, and focus on the knowledge the black belt implies. You can buy a black belt online, but if you can't execute basic mae geri or mawashi geri at shodan level, step back and realise something is wrong. Have the self respect to say 'i don't deserve shodan' and train harder to correct the mistakes

  • @KurtCobain198666 But then again.. These men don't give themselves the belt. So really I would rather go for the sensei. You most likely go with same requirements as everybody else in your dojo.

  • They didn't snap the kick, they didn't thrust the hip foward when kicking, which is stressed at the very start of the karate journey. If those kicks were to land on a live target, chances are they would just tumble backwards and lose balance. There was no regard for blocking in the kumite, not even a hint of taisabaki. They seemed to be more worried about keeping in time, rather than crisp, snappy movements that karate is known for. The larger guy can't even kick above hip height.

  • @MrJWDragon92 on DAN? everything should be perfect!

  • what the hell??? this performance is on black belt??? you wanna make me laugh i dont want to be critic... but there are guys who are just 6-4 kyu and are doing better than this... and are working hard and taking it seriously... and not this...

  • im a Purple belt karate wadu ryu and i think that when u go from one belt to another u should be able to at least do some pushups or situps... so u dont become a black belt with a tummy like an elephant... no offence...

  • I used to take Shotokan. How did these guys get to be black belts?

  • @tommylehman heh this organisation make these exam to make money here i think

  • It a shame - not everyone can be amazing at karate- but you can work within the confines of your own body to at least deliver accurate and focused karate. These just seem to be very poor and sloppy in their karate. If you can only kick chudan then it should be a 'mechanically' correct kick to that area. The kata lacks focus and fundamentals. Not a good representation of the organisation.

  • 2:20 guy gets a kick in the buttox.

  • These guys are in terrible shape. What orgainization is this? They are not even putting their full effort. Thats what a kata is about doing ti with everything you got perfectly and smoothly. Who the hell is the guy in shorts and a shirt?

  • yoko geri ftw! no wait i mean yoko geri WTF??? what type of geri is that? mcyoko?

  • I have seen yellow belts do better... train harder!

  • If I might share my humble opinion let me say that I do not know or am affiliated with this dojo. Every dojo & sensei have their own standards & after 47 yrs of study of karate-do I find that judging others waza means that I have become a master of what I comment on, and that, I am not. I commend these guys for giving the effort and certainly they reflect what their sensei has taught them by their demonstration of waza. Good or bad they are trying. Advice, "Shut up & Train!. Humbly yours.

  • o melhor video e minas kan x cia corpo

  • Such a shameful, watered down, American McDojo. The meaning of a black belt in America is tarnished since they are so far from the source material. Shame shame shame...

  • I cant believe these guys are wearing black belt. These guy's skills are so poor, especially kumite. Or, do they start from black belt? lol! My white or orange belt students can do better than these guys.

  • @niyvi98 what i saw was that they dont have experience in kumite...that is what i think^^

  • That's why karate has become a mockery. Lose some weight, become flexible, pump so iron. And polish your damn technique.

  • @hippocanjump I would think the big guy at this stage would have lost some weight. Being a black belt should meen you've been doing karate for a while. When I started I was 220 and I lost 40 pounds. I'm 6'1 and I feel better. But I never got to Black Belt got as far as Green. Because I was able to beat a lot of the "black belts."

So I moved on to wrestling thought I would actually learn something that would really benefit me.

  • Wow if i had done that at my 7th kyu grading i would fail in seconds! No control, No Kime, No speed/ sharpness, arms flying everwhere. This organisation really needs to think about their standards

  • watch?v=kaTUiQryQZg

Is this Sensei sheery your talking about. I hope not.

  • i usted to do shotokan karate but stopped at my brown belt...

  • Seriously, this passes for karate nowadays??

    2:33

    Pathetic!!

I take into concern that some people are not able to kick at the right height ect due to disabilites, but there is no strength, spirit, or technique in any of this! In the kumite drills or sparring. I have seen better from the 7 yr olds at my Martial Arts School.

One of the things you do not do in a fight/spar match, is constently switch feet for no reason!!! YES YOU WILL GET KICKED IN THE STOMACH!!

    Geez.

    They put shame to us.

  • They're not in sync in the beg. part of the video ):

    Eh fight could've been better

  • I am horrified by this demonstration but have come to realize that this has unfortunately become the norm. Everyone involved with this video should be ashamed! I am embarrassed for them and hope that future generations will understand that this is not the standard they should emulate! I have taught 7-10 year olds that have displayed better technique and form. WOW...

  • what a crap

  • I've always been told this - "It's not the fault of those who are grading, it's the fault of the person who gave them permission to grade." There is no system in which the student grades without the permission of a senior, and it is the sensei who taught them this way and told them they were good enough when most clearly aren't. I'm seeing BASIC mistakes, sliding heels, dead hips, dropped guards during kicks - many of which were unrecognisable.

That said, some of the kumite is pretty good.

  • who invited the Quaker Oats guy?

  • a properly executed ushiro geri should take the fat man down

  • what dan were they going for????

  • my kata is kihon no kata sono ni 8 kyu singapore

  • In front of the computer is easy to say something about!! I would like to watch you against the fat black belt!! I think it's will be don't easy fight!!

  • Prepare for criticism! Just kidding....I look forward to seeing it.

  • wow, thats like a yellow belt kata for jka shotokan. guess those big macs limit you guy's abilities aye.

  • I am from Cuba ,when I was a 5 years old I joined a taekwon-do school , with the time ,I grew up, until now 36 years old, martial arts ,has many variety styles ,so ,if everybody here likes ,love and practice this magnificent art ,please respect to all dogos ,styles ,we need to be respect ,between us I had been trough, many, many places , French,Japan ,Mexico, even here at Arlington Texas, karate, championship,as a visitor,my name,Angel Volodia a real lover to all Martial Arts and Olimpic Champion.

  • OMG! What's this? The american way of Karate? So terrible!

  • i am green belt - i think im better than these guys and im 15

my friend is brown belt 2° and 15 - he is sure better than these

and i think than my sister who is 11 and greenbelt is better than these..... Balls

  • @Slyderix Yeah, This prove that belts are fucking irrelevant. Get over with it, somewhere someone is claiming to be better then you as well.

  • @newtubetubetube

yes you're right they should be ashamed to put this video in youtube

  • The level of the comments appear to be or want to be degrading. I don't know the level of tangodancer nor kirtorn in karaté for them to advance this kind of comments.Obviously grading in karate takes into account age and years of practice in the art. As the body gets older so does the performance. The only thing I didn't like was that the referee did not dress properly for the situation.

  • @johnnygprofessor i was simpply saying that a karate black belt generally is supposed to be at a high level in kumite, kata, and kihon. I just did not see that here.. im 2nd dan shotokan btw

  • @johnnygprofessor you're right and that was disrepectful of the Sensei Koyama and Sensei Takashina. I think he's the Chief Instructor of that dojo. I thought he should be in proper attire, especially in this kind of event. Very sad.

  • thats no grading thats a piss take

  • Their katas looked really sloppy. Power-wise they must have been okay but like the stances/movements are just... ugly.

    Their sparring is horrible.

  • Everyone should quit complaining and criticizing. Some of these were better than others, but not everyone can look perfect. Many have physical limitations. We should train our people to be the best they physically can within their own body's physiological limitations, and not worry about whether or not they fit a specific mold!

  • @Ronin6575 Well said!

  • @newtubetubetube I think that some of the people commenting on here are so unsure of their own skills that they find it necessary to criticize. I would challenge them to put a video showing their skills.

  • these katas are sloppy, going to fast and always put there hands down as there doing a ashi-magere see in part 0:17

  • these katas are sloppy, going to fast and always put there hands down as there doing a ashi-magere

  • Very intetesting test. Who's the guy runing arround the Tatami, did he loose something, was he late to class and forgot his Gi. The fact that you have a nut runing arround in street clothes totaly changes the spirit of Budo to a circus show. this is not Shotokan Karate let alone Martial Arts. His ego is biger than his respect for the art.

  • These gentlemen were performing at the 1st kyu/shodan level. Kihon - kicks lacked power and weren't pulled back. Kata lacked kime and timing. Kumite: too many 1-2 stop sequences, and dropped guards. Very mechanical; no spirit.

BTW - weight not the problem. Sumos and linebackers have size and strength. These guys lacked any fighting spirit.

  • they are preforming a black belt for called koreo wich is hard and everthing i know cuz im a brown betl >.< but this seems way to eazy americans to be honest F***** Up the shotokan art

  • Nearly all of them are FAT!!! but they shouldent be black belt i would say they should be red because im brown and i can do better :)

  • My only criticisms are the dufus in the shorts and long hair....looks bad.

and the fatties sparring.....not very good conditioning boys!

  • Disgraceful for karate. I have seen and trained with 7th kyus performing techniques with more kime and more perfection. But I guess in a lot of places this is what Shotokan has come to.

  • I agree their kihon is at a very low lewel. No form no kime

  • its pretty sad, i attended this school for 15 years. and my 1- kyu test would have blown these dan ranks away. Seems that the skill level has been watered down some bit. When I started in this school, the training was brutal. Broken bones were a common thing, no pads with kumite. Sad to see this, Takashina is a great teacher. but age can get to anyone.

  • why is there a guy in shorts...., is there no respect for an exam and the appropiate clothing :)

  • @Duiveltje78 If his superiors (the testers) had a problem with it, I'm pretty sure they would've told him something.

  • @Duiveltje78 Yeah, I thought of that too. All the sensors should have a proper GI.. That's disrespect for the karate community..

  • We have something called "guns" people. Don't waste your time trying to become BruceLee-famous.

  • These guys at most would be 6th kyu level in my estimation. The kihon is so so poor here. Kicks with no control of the knee or thought for where they place their kicking foot upon landing. The kata was dire, just bland repetitive motions. These guys have missed the point of Shotokan - its supposed to be clean, crisp and ballistic!!! It's an amazingly dynamic martial art if executed correctly! Even the ref is all over the place when attempting to adjudicate the kumite!! WTF orginisation is this?!

  • @cdp2702 I can demonstrate the kihon kata and kumite better than these mcdojo trained guys and im only 7th kyu

  • this sucked, even the green belts karate in the dojo where i train are better, im a green belt jiu jitsuka and i would kick there asses

  • Pretty poor from dan grades to be honest - I can understand physical limitations in terms of kicking but even so, a kick aimed low should be powerful and sharp. There just seems a distinct lack of kime here. Lots of flaling around, no control and just bad in general. I love shotokan - but this isn't it. Check out some stuff by brennan sensei or sherry sensei if you want to see proper execution of technique!

  • @cdp2702 very right, im a student of Hazard Sensei..... these wouldnt cut it in our organisations i dont think, certainly not mine, and i guess urs too lol OSS

  • im surpised the kicks are not consistant it very sloppy im not impressed at all

  • The Student doesn't fail - The Teacher failed

  • A lot of negative comments here. Granted these guys may not be the most talented karateka in the world but obviously they have put time and effort into their training. Not everyone can be a world class performer. Shame on all those making derogatory comments. Is this what karate has taught you???

  • @Danzakisan True, but if you cannot even make a "complete" round-house kick, what's the point? Sure, they did their best, but they could do better. Like us all, we always need more practice.

  • @Danzakisan

Very true. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a Sensei Gichin Funakoshi or Sensei Tsutomu Ohshima or one of their students teaching them. Your comment on what karate should really teach touched my heart and mind. Thank you for helping us stay rooted.

    Regards,

  • the power behind 1:39 OUCH!

fuck fighting the fat guy, too much weight to throw at you

  • A real ridiculous presentation of american "black belts". How itis possible that they dare to present this crap in you tube? Only their sick minds can tell them to do so. A real disgrace.

  • when they have there arms in carrage it is very low, my sensai always has our hands up pretty much as high as possible in carrage

  • I am sorry if this is a video to promote the school it is poorly done. Number one why is the guy on the floor with no uniform and he keep interrupting the fighters in the middle of an exchange? Number two some of those guys are too stiff they need to know how to let their technique snap. Oss.

  • I thought they were strong, they have a lot of spirit but that they are a little too tense in the shoulders. but still I wouldn't want to be hit or kicked by one of them. I think people where are a little too hard of them.

  • That is absolutely shocking! I hope they all got their black belts removed!

  • Respectfully said, these students lack kime in their stances. There is far too much emphasis in arm movements and there is too much tension as well. These do not strike me as dan-level individuals.

  • its bad enough the karate was lacking, but did ya have to use this cheese music?

  • sorry, but in Poland kids got much better technick! SERIOUS!

  • Good Karatekas!!!! The most important thing in Karate is to train with Sanchin!!! OSS

  • @Alexonboard they're shotokan not goju lol

  • @FLAWLESKILLER I didn't say that they were goju lol, We all can see what kind of karate they are doing, Shotokan karate, the best in my opinion.

  • they sux :(

  • I´m deeply sorrow for saying this...With all due respect these guys should never have

    their black belts...Nor even brown...No technic...No power...no Styling...it´s horrible...

...Surely this is not kyokushin...It´s just unacceptable!

  • What style of karate is this?

  • what the hell are you doing guys! I think you need more accuracy, strength, and agility as well in order to perform the real moves of blackbelt karatekas. you're like beginners in your godamn stances, punches, kicks; and even blockings are terrible! More practice man! Constant correct practice leads to perfection.

  • @domzsanchez ye i agree, i lol'd when i saw this

  • @domzsanchez no such thing as a bad deshi just very bad sensei,OSU.

  • Black belts, u said? 0.0

  • I have my shodan I used to train this style of karate and know of both sensi's and i'm pretty sure that both of them are testing these students hard also so that they meet the standards and requirements of being a black belt in shotokan karate not knocking them or anything but I would say they might be lucky enough if they pass they have to work on their form and technique a little more..

  • KYOKUSHIN KARATE IS BEST

  • Wow in my dojo these gusys would be in trouble..they suck to say none the least...my Sensei expects perfection out of even a white belt....and when i say perfection i mean it...i am yellow belt in the dojo i train in and i have in fact destroyed many Shodan's in kumite from other dojos...i guess i got lucky and train in a real dojo....you can't by any means buy a belt in it.....

  • Really? You call those side kicks?

  • you say this is a 1st dan grading?? i have seen a lot better it was far too slow for a 1st dan grading, but good try tho, did anyone of them pass

  • most of these guys are too fat to move!

  • That big fat white guy shouldn't be a black belt. He has no flexibility!

  • @MrElucidate Yep... There is very little technique in some of his kicks.

  • @ThaHonestTruth

do not blame those filmed - blame their instructors - we are all outcomes of information gleaned via A,V,K and A,S,K with low levels of that input we can only produce low levels of outcome - not the students fault IMHO!

  • @MrElucidate I was that watching that too. I thought the sparring of all those guys was very weak. Also that point system fighting is not realistic at all. I dont see combinations nothing. no parrying, no side slipping, no flexibiltity.

  • Must be yankee karate, clearly the large guy with the shaved head is demonstrating BigMacDo, the rest are obviously KFC chicken style fighters, as in all coating and no filling, they really all should be deep fried, best that could happen to them,

O Sensei Funakoshi Gichin must be desperately turning in his grave asking his ancestors what the hell are these guys doing.

  • @tangodancer1603 very good one with the bigmacdo uhasuahsuahsuahsua

  • @tangodancer1603

    ....you hit the right point!

  • @tangodancer1603 haha, well said

  • @tangodancer1603 i couldnt have said it better kyokushin is the best japanese style. these guys would get run over by a kyokushin fighter

  • @tangodancer1603 I am sorry, but it has to be said. Maybe these guys are NOT that great as higher ranked karate-ka, but I promise you, what you just said, was not the shotokan way. Show respect for your fellow karate-ka. A lack of respect and philosophy is also what american produced shit lacks and is definetely more importantly what keeps the old man (Gichin) turning in his grave.

  • @Failfleetcaptain21 better than lieing too them and telling them their good and worth a black belt when the level isnt there for whatever reason.

  • @kayleighkicksass Exactly. Whoever promoted them to that high of a rank wasn't thinking corectly at the moment. But the shotokan way isn't going around making stupid ass comments about someone telling them, "your pathetic, find a different hobby, they shame karate", its just not promoting them, or laughing and ignoring them, saying goodnight, and closing shop.

  • @tangodancer1603, you sound like a little poser bitch :)

  • @tangodancer1603 awesome comment i trained shukokai for 8 years and these guys look like our green belts

  • @tangodancer1603

    Seek perfection of character......

  • @tangodancer1603

    ahahahahahahah BigMacDo

  • @tangodancer1603 100% correct.... they dont look like they want it in my opinion....OSS

  • kirtorn, you need to show some respect! If they've trained hard and dilligently, who are you to say they should have their belts removed! You only show your level of ignorance

  • wow... i really am surprised at the level of these black belts.... they are at the level of a 3-1st kyu. they should get their belts removed.

  • @kirtorn I completely agree.

  • @kirtorn you read my mind

  • @kirtorn I think you should put a video of yourself on here so we can review your skills!

  • @Ronin6575 I expect there will be a few videos of me up soon. I'm competing in the norwegian national championships. If i can get ahold of one of the videos of me i will gladly send them to you personally

  • @kirtorn sorry but you are insulting the real 3rd kyu holders with this parallel :/

  • So many masters and advisors! I only know a little, and I hardly know it after years of hard work

  • Some good stuff there...shame the ref wasn't in his karate-gi too. Well done

  • @cocobolomike sometimes, a sensei can call you up to assist him /her in a grading.

  • ossu...

  • style?

  • @Mosley2 looks like Shotokan, with American influence.....

  • man! i just can't wait untill i (hopefully) obtain my black belt. i'm currnetly 3 kyu (3rd brown). I'm studying Tenshinkan. (a decandent style of Shotokan)

  • Pretty tight

  • They are doing Shotokan Karate. a style which originated from shiraruke and shurenruk(not sure on spelling). formed by Gitchen Funikoshi

  • nice

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Please share with us did they all make it to black belt. Good sparring

  • they're testing for a higher black belt and i know my sensi did (the bald one :)

  • The fat guy, too many chips????

  • whats the name of kata ? sochin and kanku sho ?

  • teki shodon i think was the one they were doing. i could be wrong. but for black belt testing they have to do any kata called out

  • in the 0.31 they are doing Yoko-geri-keage. I'm 9kyu now,and if i do yoko like that in my exam to get 8kyu(yellow belt) i guaranty 100% i Fail!

  • good spirit. katas were a bit sloppy, but good spirit. I see sensei has no hair now wow!

    Osu!

  • He may have no hair but I can guarantee he has that same elitist, snotty attitude. A premier technician and will not teach the core of karate, inner dynamics.

  • @IEKUKATAKA

LOL!! your telling me, I was his student for 15 years. Your comment is accurate. I learned more from H. Nishiyama in one year than in 15 with Takashina.

  • Funny, I left Takashina about 1989 and became a student of Nishiyama for about 15 years. We know each other?

  • Everyone's chosen style of karate have their grading standards, and wherever these styles are taught , the sensei have their expectations of the students who are grading. The participants, in this case, obviously met these standards.

I wasn't that fussed about the karate, however, I cannot imagine why, on such an important occasion for the participants, an official should be involved without wearing a dogi. It is important to maintain standards at all times, especially at gradings.

  • For those of you that question the testing or criteria, which one of you can tell me what the purpose is for testing students?

  • When I test my students, its more about seeing how they have progressed and to see what they need to work on. Everyone is different. Some people need to understand that before they comment on something they know nothing about.

  • You're right about understanding something before commenting on it. Over the last few years that I have practiced the martial arts, I have learned that testing is nothing more than putting the students in a controlled, stressful situation to see if they can bring forth the lessons that have been taught. By the time a student tests, he/she should be competent enough. One cannot test just because.

  • Is that right? Then explain to me why a student needs to be tested at all in a dojo where the teacher has seen the student perform day after day, week after week etc. Then explain why testing is not original to Okinawa. What is a shodan? What is the difference between a godan and a rokudan? Why are they necessary? What does it gain? Why are those that are not qualified passed anyway? What role has the west played in all that nonsense if it was not original? Are there martial arts in America?

  • the large bald guy's kata is a little lacking, but I appreciate his deep stances when he is sparring. When you are large like that, it just doesn't make sense to be high up. get low, get strong.

  • Do you suppose that crap they are doing is really karate? Original Karate, the lethal art used for the defense of life? Who would be hurt or killed by that? Why do Americans fall for that nonsense when they read their own literature that describes karate as lethal and used in defense of life by a poor and isolated people. Just what is it about that mockery that looks lethal? Comments?

  • go ninja go ninja go!

  • its actually pretty lethal if its done right. i've been hit a very many times in (shotokan) karate class. Its not meant to be lethal in one or two moves like some styles, its meant to actually only negate the situation, not to kill the person immedeantly. its more for "what-if-i-get-attacked-on-the-street-by-a-dangerous-person" in america u can go to jail for killing some1 in self defence

  • And how long have you been training? It is called karate, is it not? Isn't karate supposed to be a lethal defensive art? I believe the Okinawans developed it to be so, right? I understand Shotokan teaches todome waza. That means a finishing blow in Japanese and implies that only one technique should be needed. Is that not true? Isn't that potentially lethal? Or, is it supposed to be a long fight like Chuck Norris? Did Funakoshi ever study shiraruke and shurenruk? I wonder if he knew that.

  • I have been training for 3 yrs. it is called karate, but shotokan is a specific type of karate. I know i am contradicting but im not great at wording what im trying to say. if u want to know more about it u should really talk to a sensi, im sure they can explain it better than i can also, i dont know everything about it. im working on it, but it's a slow process b/c i have many other responsibilities
