@SuperWillHatch - Is "Lunar Park" good? I've read "Less Than Zero", "The Informers" and "The Rules of Attraction" and loved them all, and consider Bret Easton Ellis one of the greatest, and most inspirational authors to me personally (I'm an aspiring filmmaker - writer/director).
It's pretty different from what he usually writes about, but still worth reading imo. Don't get me wrong- there's still a lot of sex, drugs, nihilism, and satire, but a large part of it is a relatively straightforward horror story. Ellis said that it is partly an homage to the Stephen King novels that he enjoyed reading as a kid, so take that in read. All in all, it's probably my third favorite of his after American Psycho and Glamorama.
bands, blondes, booze, blow, bullshit, braindead banter, banality, bespoke beatitudes, bimbos, and the beatification of the brand name. not books.... b-movies.
Has anyone else noticed Ellis has worn this same outfit in all of these interviews promoting Imperial Bedrooms? I would expect more from the man who originated Pat Bateman...
Question: Why, in all of B.E.E.'s novels, the protagonist is heterosexual and always lusting after females when, in reality, B.E.E. is homosexual? Has he come out of the closet? Why doesn't he write a novel where the protagonist is gay? Wouldn't that be more.....truthful?
@jujujujuparisxx His protagonists are not all heterosexual. In Less Than Zero, Clay is bi. In Rules of Attraction, Paul is bi with a preference for men. In American psycho, yes, Patrick Bateman is heterosexual. In Glamorama, Victor Ward is bi (though he appears homophobic at first he later has sex with a man and it emerges that he has done so before) and in Lunar Park, since Bret himself is the narrator, he is bi.
My favourite book of his is American Psycho. Fascinatingly unique book that has been misjudged unfortunately by the wider society which therefore puts a stain on AP. A truly brilliant, serious and highly skillled writer. Have already read AP twice
i like his persols.... no homo - also i like how bret really doesnt want to be reading this. hes hillarious. Just completly lackadaisic, forced by his publishers, he doesnt give a shit. love this guy.
@jacsmacattac this book was totally boring...as well bret easton ellis glamourizes racism..he is like modern day hitler propaganda...we dont need his input
His writing style is perfect for his natural voice :)

That's not a real version of himself. He just happened to give the character in his book the same name as himself.
