  • ok i was wondering if u could still play on live after u do the x clap fix! many people told me u couldnt so i figured id ask?

  • I am giving this a shot. Actually is this Big Nicks? Because I downloaded a tutorial that removes the x-clamp altogether just like this with the exact same steps, except for the baking part, but it didn't tell me to get 16 washers. It just said quantity of 1x which was retarded, so I got 8 and then 8 screws. I'm going to finish it up tomorrow and let everyone know. I as well have the halo edition 360. I've had it for pretty much 3 years, so my warranty ended and would cost me $100 to fix.

  • Dude I Did This And It Worked But After A Half Hour I Keep Getting The 3 Red Rings Of Death Help PLEASE!!!!!!

  • i dont get why you purposely let the xbox run and overheat with no cooler fans? how in any shape of form those that help fix the xbox.

  • @ryguy425425 The 0001 Error is a power supply error check that your power brick is pluged correctly as well as pluged coreectly into the Back of the console> :D i hope that helped

  • lolz talk about really old dashboard. lolz my halo 3 special editon xbox just got the e74 error. i paid 500 dollers for the damn system, that didnt even come with halo. the damn thing broke after 3 years and 2 of those years i barley used it. xbox360 sucks and microsoft is just a bunch of money hungery dooshbags. im sorry im not waiting 3 months to get mine back ill just change the plates on my white to my halo scrap the parts and buy a ps3. at least they dont want to nickal and dime me.

  • Great, thanks shadynyc420, my console works like now now.

  • where can i get the silver thermal paste?

  • @akmorgan88 radio shack

  • Why did you choose to shoot the "It will look like this" part in black and white? For all I know that was a working Xbox with one controller connected and the shell off.

Not saying that's the case, but everything else was in color.

  • I was using a webcam during the black and white, and a digital camera during color ..

  • lol i tried the towel trick...it ended badly...very very badly...badly as in fire.....lol

  • @Magnesium0012 anyone with half a brain knows to not bake a 360 the e 74 error code is because of too much heat to the processors so why add more heat to it and warp the motherboard.

  • I'm still getting rrod after the x-clamp fix with an error code 0001. The whole stuff is totally lifeless, no spinning fans, dead DVD drive, only the 3 blinking red lights. Can anybody help?

  • @helike13 I have 2 systems that are doing the same. Anyone got a fix?

  • I repaired my friends 360, but i do have one problem. When I put m5's through the metal case there not long enough to screw in, i slightly screw one in and then one side of the heatsink is sitting to far up to be able to screw another m5 in.. help?

  • Instead of screwing it in through the metal bottom, just bolt down the heatsink to the Motherboard with out it .. Then put the motherboard back into the metal bottom

  • so do you throw away the x rings, I've always been confused about that...

  • Actually, I sharpened the edges and turned them into ninja stars lol

  • haha, so why do you remove them, what problems do they cause?

  • They don't properly hold the heatsinks down, and the excess heat makes the mother board warp ..

  • oh thanks a bunch, now i finally understand all this. Is it cool if I message you for help if i need it when i get mine apart?

  • Yeah if i'm around, sure ..

  • Do you have to use Artic cooling paste? I have a Dynex silver thermal compound.

  • Yeah I use Artic Silver, but Dynex should be fine .. I would say any Silver Thermal Compound should do it ... My only experience is with Artic Silver though

  • hey i did the fix it works good but it freesias wen i go to a game please help

  • Does the xbox heat up more than usual?

  • there are some good tips in it

  • how long does it last for.

  • I've seen xboxes last a year so far ..

  • does it really work

  • Yeah

  • ok how many screw washers will i need due they have to be metal

  • I didn't use any metal washers

  • Is the thermal paste really neccessary? Will it work without it?

  • Yes it is VERY necessary ... It won't work without it ..

  • is there a kit that has all those materials?

  • You only need 16 washers .. 2 to each bolt ..

The diagram calls for metal washers, that's why you see 4 washers per bolt .. But you don't need the metal ones ..

  • yoo i fixed everything my xbox is running how it is sopouse too

but i got a major problem ... there is no video or soundd.. it makes the start up sound but then the screen freezes and sound stops what did i do wrong?

  • Sounds like the Video Encoder chip (Hana) is breaking down, this fix will not help the problem, your xbox is pretty much dead =(

  • can't i do the peeny fix or anything on the hana chip to fix it

    although i been encounter numerous

e70's error.. i got ever single one lol

soo does that have to do something wit my hana chip

  • Just wanted to say thanks again for this video...Over 1 year and never again encountered the rings of death after this x clamp mod.

    Peace....

  • i wish i could just lift the clamp THIS IS A PAIN IN THE ASS!!!

  • do u still need to do the thing that u did when it changes light

  • Yes

  • i dont get the rrod but i get 'no signal' on my tv, does anybody no how to fix this?

  • Sounds like you have E74, which is your encoder chip ... X-Clamp replacements usually don't fix that problem =(

  • will the penny tick fix the e74?

  • Sometimes it works, it doesn't hurt to try

  • dude thanks worked on the first try, cutose brother, kootos, cootose

  • eramir228, after doing the x clamp fix, take the fan unit out of the xbox 360 and turn your xbox on until you get 2 red sections on your xbox ring instead of three, which means its overheated. This makes all the broken solder joints rejoin, resulting in a fixed xbox

  • I did everything in this but I still got 3 rrod :/ I also did penny fix and don't have the original pad things on the underside of motherboard. Can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

  • Maybe you have the screws too tight, if they are too tight, it flexes the motherboard and causes the 3 Red Lights ..

  • is there any way to tell if it's too tight?

  • I guess so, although I never used HQ Paste ..

  • yo bro, where did ya get that stand at, the one the 360 is on.

  • Ebay .. type in "3 Light Laptop Cooler"

  • thanks bro

  • so do you put on 2 washers for each screw...or 4 like the diagram....???

  • You need 16 washers .. 8 for each heatsink ..

  • whats are all the bolts and stuff

  • M5-.80 x 10 Machine Screws (8 of them)

#10 Flat Washers -- Nylon (16 of them)

    Artic Silver Thermal Paste

    90% Isopropyl Alcohol

  • could i probaly get all those at home depot or lowes

  • Yes Lowes has the washers and screws, Radioshack should have the thermal paste ..

  • thank u

  • once u take clamps off and u dont have 3 rings wats better to do just replace them or put em back on

  • Replace them, the X-Clamps + Shitty Thermal Paste are the culprits to the 3 Red Lights ..

  • this cost about 30 bucks and you could go aroung buying red ring xbox then sell them for hundreds

  • hey shady kewl vid.. i dont get the 3rings i just dont get a picture at all..i get the sound n i hear it fire up but no picture?? u got anythin on my prob??i use the monster component cables n switched back 2 the reg cables thinkin that might work but of course it didnt..any help would b sweet

  • I tried that tower trick before I tried the X clamp fix.. it never worked.. T.T

  • You probably fried your GPU .. The Towel Trick is very bad for your console ..

  • I have 0020 error.. I tried anything that I could.. plz help!!!

  • just wrap ur 360 in 2 towels for about half an hour then try it again

  • I advise NOT to do that .. You will do more damage than fixing the problem

  • yeah it probally does more damage..but if it fixes the red ring of death for a day, ant that better then not being able to play it at all?

  • The only way i would advise doing it, is if you are waiting for MS to send you a box to ship it in for repairs, because of the permanent damage you leave behind by doing the towel trick ..

  • You have the screws too tight and you are flexing the mother board .. try to loosen up the screws ..

  • does any body know where to buy nylon washers

  • ebay type arctic silver and scroll down and u should find them

  • Hey i got 1 question WATS THE SIZE OF THE SCREWS?????????

  • You need (8) M5-.80 x 10 Machine Screws

  • where can i buy those i looked everywhere

  • Nice Faceplate!

  • Thanks! My roomate did it, and it's not even finished in the video .. It looks so much better now that it is finished ..

  • Hate the Music but Nice Tutorial Good JogO_o

  • hey, I got one question. You say we need 8 screws and 16 washers, but in the picture diagram it shows that there is 4 washers on each screw 8 * 4 = 32. is there something I am missing here.

  • Never mind I found the other tutorial. This video does not say we need 16 5mm flat washers. Thanx for the vid though it helped alot

  • Are you just mounting the heatsinks to the mobo and then putting it back in the tray and then reattaching everything as normal except the 8 little black screws that were used on the x clamp standoffs to mount it to the tray?

In Dawg's he drilled out the holes on the tray to fit the 5mm screws and then used washers to standoff the mobo from the case.

  • Yes I am just mounting the heatsinks to the Mobo .. and putting it back into the tray normally ..

And LAWDAWG did not drill holes into the tray, RBJTech did ..

  • must have been all that crap written on it that caused it LOL!

  • Oh man someone help i did this and now my xbox powers on with the red lights then the fan becomes louder and cuts off then i get the two red lights. I havent got any screws connected so it cant be that

  • I would screw down the heatsinks before powering up the console, you may be damaging your xbox

  • same thing happens to me my xbox just gave me the rrod on friday i try to fix it but gave me the same problem did u fix it? please reply

  • I think you fried your chips by not screwing down the heatsinks and powering up your console ..

  • what size screws and washers do you use

  • M5-.80 x 10 Machine Screws

    #10 Flat Washers -- Nylon

  • hi i did this fix??and now it gives me 2 red lights??i have tighin it dont know wats wrong any ideas??thanks

  • Loosen up the screws, they are to tight and you are flexing the Motherboard ..

  • ive loosen it now it gives my the RROD again??Help Please!

  • The only thing I can think of, is that you didn't add enough thermal paste, or you put too much on it ..

Clean off the chips again, and try the paste one more time, put a little bit on and spead it on the chips .. then put the ehatsinks back on and don't screw them in too tight, just snug enough to fit on ..

  • hey man. do you think you could help me do this. i live in bk and can meet up with you

  • Sure .. send me a msg to my inbox with your phone # ..

  • Can I use 70% rubbing alcohol instead of 90%.

  • Yeah, but it will take longer to clean ..

  • Can I use 70% rubbing alcohol instead of 90%.

  • nice vid whats the song called?

  • Song 1: Blown Away by Styles P F. Akon

Song 2: Same 'ol Song by Sev

  • what happens when you touch the chips??

  • As long as you clean it with alcohol, nothing ..

  • great vid man, Idk y mine still doesnt work. Its all done correctly too. Btw, how did you make those pics on the faceplate? lol, its very nice!

  • What's the error code?

And the faceplate, my roomate does custom painting on faceplates .. great prices, great art!!

  • lol damn, thats really cool. Im about to make one with like various anime characters and stuff, but I was considering using colored pencils, but now I hear paint. egghh o well, then again ur name says nyc, and I live here in nyc so I might ask your roommate. lol, as for the error code, its been jumping from 0020 to 0022. Still dont know if I should continue xclamp. It worked once, but lasted 3hrs and went back to rrod. I know 0020 is not fixable yet, but who knows. any ideas?

  • 0020 is overheating .. You should try to tighten the heatsinks .. And what part of nyc you in? I'm in brooklyn ..

  • I tried tightening in different levels, some od tight, others like loose. No effect what so ever. Hmmm, Im still trying to fix it though. You live in Brooklyn huh, nice what part. I live in Queens.

  • I'm in Sunset Park .. If you wanna bring it by my house .. I'll take a look at it for ya, maybe I can fix it .. And I can show you some case mods that i'm working on as well ..

  • where do you put the thermal paste all over the gpu and cpu or just in a certain place

  • Put about the size of a pea, then spread it on the GPU, and CPU ..

You can also add it to the 4 black RAM chips around the GPU ..

  • ok i had it working ok really good i cut holes in the top of the case and fans pointing down on the heatsinks. it acted up again so i took it apart and noe i am going to do the other heatsink( the one over the cpu) to see if that will help it seamed a littl loose. what happens if you touch the chips.

  • I'm not too sure, but it may mess up the dye on the chips themselves .. Make sure to use alcohol, if you do actually touch the chips ..

  • hey wd40 is way better that rubbing alcohol u should try that

  • i cleaned off the paste and put new stuff on and now i get two lights and the x box overheats does that mean i need more paste

  • Try to tighten the screws on the heatsinks ..

  • Hey, great vid but i am not exactly sure what you mean by "Replace the power button board with the lights!

  • It just means, put it back on ..

  • Oh right yeah, stupid me XD

  • i did this off a video i saw but i was wondering if you have to remove all the foil and go off the back of the heat sink and if i did not clean that off and did not put on any thermal paste would it cause my graphics too be not 100% plus i only did it to the heat sink side not the other side. but it did get rid of my rrod the 360 works but like i said the graphics ae not working right. please let me know this is killing me

  • Yes you need to remove th foil with alcohol ..

And you NEED to add thermal paste as well ..

  • When i tried cleaning the shit off of the cpu and gpu with a q-tip...all i got was the cotton crap all over them. so i took the cotton off of the q-tip and scraped some of it off. It helped a little bit...but it was chromy or anything like i have seen.

  • Did you dip the Q-Tip in Alcohol?

  • thanks a lot! i hope this works for me. how long will this fix last for my xbox360?

  • If you applied the thermal paste right, it should last a long time .. I can't give an exact because none of them have Red Lighted again ..

  • nice video.:) what are the equipments needed to do this?

  • 8 M5-.80 x 10 Machine Screws

    16 #10 Flat Washers -- Nylon

    Artic Silver Thermal Paste

    90% Isopropyl Alcohol

    Q-Tips

    Torx Driver: T10 and T8

  • i got a second xbox from my friend for 60$(rrod)added a fan over the heat sink and did the x-clamp fix and it worked like a charm.

  • Awesome .. Enjoy your newly fixed 360!

  • PLEASE HELP! im getting error 0022.

  • 0022 GPU Error / GPU Overheating

The 2 things I would attempt would be ..

    #1 Re-apply the Thermal Paste

#2 Screw down the GPU Heatsink a little tighter ..

  • Thanks for replying I just applied arctic silver 5 and Ill tighten the screws a little bit harder.

  • Don't use too much, and spread it on the GPU evenly ..

  • so do you have to clean the thermal paste off or can you just leave it on if you dont have arctic silver

  • Yes .. You need to clean the paste off the chips, and heatsinks .. And use Artic Silver

  • Good Video just helped me out alot thx :D

  • I cleaned the thermal paste off the top of my chips, but there was still some on the sides of them that the q-tips couldn't really clean. The stuff on the sides is actually more on the board than on the chips, does that have to be cleaned off too?

  • yes, use a slim credit card or something else

  • I was just wanting to know when overheating the console, did u wait 2 mins after the two red lights or did u turn it off as soon as you got the two red lights

  • I waited the 2 mins

  • I posted a comment not to long ago, but I forgot to ask... What are the names of the songs you have in the video? Thanks and cool video!

  • Song #1 Styles P Feat. Akon - Blown Away

Song #2 Sev - Same 'ol Song ..

And thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you like the vid =]

  • did u put the x - clamps back in..or did u throw them out....plz REPLYY!! thanksss

  • Nah, I threw them away ..

  • sorry typo on my previous comment.

"I only get the [red rings]..."

  • my xbox freezes with a "checkerboard" pattern on the screen. I only get the id say 1 in 30 times i turn on the xbox, Whenever i turn it on, it will freeze anywhere within 10 seconds to 5 minutes. I was not aware of the secondary error code, so i have not been able to obtain mine. Do you know if my problem can be resolved with this fix?

  • Maybe, you definitely have a GPU issue .. This fix MAY work, but if you have a warranty use it .. If not, go for it ..

  • helo shady! i got a question, what kind of screw, washer and nut u use to meke it fit

  • Look around on the first page of comments .. I listed the parts there

  • no bab he does not TALK! he should

  • Who me? I was away for X-mas .. sorry man lol

  • Why doesn't M$ do this?

  • Because they are cheap asses

  • I agree.

  • Lmao! That is so true, but that would rather spend a lot more money for fixing everyone's 360? M$ is freaking stupid! Oh and bad ass music dude!

  • naw im sccared to do this shit my self i dont whant to fuck mine up i barely bought mine this december but it has int got the red lights i heard it whont get it cuz it has some chips cuz its the new model 360 so ya

  • actually, if you have the red rings of death, you might as well try this method, because it's already broken

  • Exactly, good point ..

  • I did it to mine out the box .. It MAY prevent the 3RLOD

  • How has this fix worked for you so far? Any problems?

  • Nope .. 12 xboxes later, and all run flawlessly!!

  • Will this work with error 0110?

  • Yes .. 0110 Memory Error / Memory Overheating

Be sure to add thermal paste to the 2 Black RAM Chips directly next to the GPU

  • Thank you very much, 360 up and running with no problems. Thanks again.

  • So the 3RoD was actually the cheap thermal compound ms used to make the 360s

  • That, and the cheap X-Clamps ..

  • Nice Faceplate dude!! :D

  • Thanks man .. My roomate does custom faceplates if you are interested, good prices, and great artwork ..

BTW the faceplate in the video was only half done, if you want to see it finished let me know =D

  • In my country I can only find generic silicone grease can, do you know if I can use this instead of artic silver 5

  • As long as it's Thermal Compound, I will say yes ..

  • Thanx, I to have fixed my xbox with this method. Great video, and yes it is was a thermal compound.

  • Ok cool, glad you were able to bring your 360 back to life!! Happy Gaming!!!

  • do i have to do this befor the red ring of death happen or can i do it when they happen plaese comment back plaese

  • probably when they happen

  • It best to do it before, to prevent the 3 RLOD

  • Finally, somebody with some sense rather than using towels!! Much respect and many thanks
