  • Just wanted to point a thing out Jon: Relativistic Mechanics comes in handy at times! "20 light years from us" means that an electromagnetic signal sent from "here" and "now" would get there in 20 years according to our space and time. If we were able to travel at, let's say, 80% the speed of light (totally impossible at the moment...), time, for us travelling, would pass 40% slower than earth's time. This means that we'll be there in "just" 15 years of travel!

  • @Hack3r91 A message has been sent there, and if they reply, it'll take another 20 years.

  • @ertfyd1 Of course it will, if you measure time ere on earth ;) If you travel at a very high speed, it is well known that crazy shit happens. Basically, your time and space are not absolute, but relative to the speed you are moving in comparison with the other objects of the universe. In fact, If you move at 80% of the speed of light and send a electromagnetic impulse, measuring the time on the spaceship, it turns out that it arrives in just 12 years instead of the 20 you measure on earth

  • Stop screwing our Earth so you don't have to search another one!

  • Forget That Planet...Lets Find Intelligent Life On This Planet First

  • They are already here

  • The thumbnail says "Earth^2" but, you said "Earth2". Shouldn't it be Earth Squared?

  • there are too many gliese planets lol which one has life already =P

  • I found out how cold it can be over there its like −83 °F to −49 °F

  • Earth Squared??

  • 1 thing... Scientists never... Ever... Say 100%

  • well it's a great news but 20 light year it feels like reproduction should be carried out in the space ship itself

  • Even if we could somehow detect free oxygen on the planet (then it would be nailed) that there is life on it. Oxygen is unstable (by it'self) and wants to go onto the rocks etc and make water. Life makes oxygen free, and if life suddenly dissapeared, the oxygen would combine into copounds fairly quickly. But if we did find oxygen on it, the creationists still would deny life on it (totally unreasonably, arrogantly and unlogically). And they would make up the weakest excuse for it.

  • @ 0.58 he says that it is with oceans???

  • sounds like ron Paul

  • @dinosaursucess in cosmic terms, 20 light yrs is close

  • Four times the size of Earth hmm?...How much would some one weigh? How well would our species adapt? that's what I want to know!

  • @MrEzish crab people

also 20 light years? close? wtf are you on about

  • @MrEzish Three times, not four!

  • @MrEzish He said it was trhee times the size (measured in mass, not size). The gravity would be three times (no good for us) and if there are animals on it they would probably be small and light. Elephants are not feasible.

  • Earth Cubed? Thats what I learned from the thumbnail.

  • It's not scary this is good because we are pretty much screwing up the planet that we call HOME right now with pollution and litter...and of course we are not the only living beings in the whole entire universe. ever though we haven't seen other beings, they are out there somewhere.

  • Coolio

  • nope in a video i saw that gliese is actually one of the volcanos but i think it still might be a lie that it's a fiery planet :D

  • Earth-2? Is that where the Justice Society is from? COMIC BOOK REFERENCES, AWAAAAAAY!

  • im so scared

  • fuck thats scary

  • You Americans are always blowing things up, from what I can tell from the article there isn't even proof for water. It is a good match though, big enough so the planet doesn't loose it atmosphere to space like mars did and close enough to the sun. Now we need to find liquids, a magnetic field, the right components in the atmosphere and crest (like heavier metal like atoms) and probably the density at ground levels of the atmosphere 2. Or you get a Mars or Venus story, because they fit as well.

  • and on Gliese 581g, theres a Gliese 581g Jonathon Paula who made a video about him talking about this new planet his people discovered called "Gliese 581g2" or Earth

  • @jonrox24 cuz they smart 'nuff to recognize there's no need for writing a SILENT LETTER (h), but there's always exceptions to every rule :P

  • The beings on that planet are probably thinking the same as us...

  • I'd love to live on that planet. The only problem would be no oxygen. Ah well

  • @GeluNumber1 no oxygen? dude i think he said there were oceans and there are water in oceans. last time i checked water was made up of hydrogen and oxygen. idk probably its changed now =)

  • No way to get there!!!!! if we were, it may take millions of years! Our world would probably end by the time we figure out a way to get there. Maybe in the future, with advances in technology, we could connect some how with radio waves or something in that nature. Just a thought.

  • ahh fuck.my sciency part of me is taking over.must.not.let.my.s's.sound.weird.ahh fuck.it happend

  • wrong 1 light year is the equivilent of about 300 miles do your research so yes we can reach it

    \

  • @mra651 no your wrong a light year is almost 6 trillion miles do YOUR research

  • @mra651 300 miles? In one second, Light goes around 160,000 miles distance.

  • what abouat kepler 22b

  • stargate?

  • maybe the planet died 21 years ago

  • I'll be scared going to sleep if we ever discover aliens so in my case I don't really want to find out if aliens exist but if they are I would be excited and scared

  • Once we master teleportation we will live there

  • ha ha fuck you japan

  • I love Astromony so much and it really makes me sad that even if this planet îs sutible for us and everything îs perfect for human life to exist there.. that where never gonna get there anyways.. :(. I -3 astromony. I wonder so much. Thanks Jon. I subscribed.

  • Very exciting news indeed. But first of all, its existence has not yet been proven. Other institutes in the world have to verify this finding in order for them to be valid. Second, 20 light years are 20*(years)*(light speed) and 1 year has 31536000 sec there for 20 light years~=189*10^12 km (if I'm not mistaken). This is a pretty HUGE distance for human standards. And even if we could leave this planet and go somewhere else, this still doesn't mean that we should destroy it before we leave...

  • u say it like gleeza

  • earth 2 great IDEA

  • GREAT IDEA... Lets go fuck up another planet and sap it of its resources like we are doing to our own planet. what a great idea...

  • WOOOO TREES

  • i need a ticket to this planet,,,get me out of the mess and chaos whats on in this Earth

  • The only way to reach it of course is by going light speed which of course violates Einstein's theory. There are loop holes to this rule such as worm holes. maybe one day

  • I don't know that much about astronomy, but I don't think that humans could inhabit that planet. For one, to reach the planet you would probably need tons of fuel, especially for carrying potentially billions of people. There is also the fact there will be diseases, the air might not be the right condition, anything. The fact that it is mostly rocks would probably mean the lack of plant life on the surface, which means the lack of animals that we could eat.

  • 20 Light Years is 1.8921e+14km, just if anyone cares! :)

  • Earth 2. I like the sound of that.

  • If it's 3 times larger than Earth, then what's its gravity? I don't think we can live comfortably on that planet.

  • @dfsfklsj it's a theory, just think about it, if it had the same amount of increasing density it most lkely has been there three times as long, if not, than so sue me, im not an astronomer, i'm 13

  • the only problem i sew with the theory of "molecular level organisms" is that the planet is 3 freaking times as big as earth, that means it's been there roughly 3 times as long as earth, and it means 3 times the gravity, 3 times as long for the organisms to form and evolve, 3 times as long for advancements in technology, 3 times as long for a downfall much like our own...

    Don't get your hopes up.

  • @mister0creeper Just because it's 3 times the size, does not mean it's been around 3 times longer. You know planets don't increase in size exponentially over time. Not to mention, nothing of what you said would cause life to stop existing.

  • water helps produce life which means plankton , plankton go to squid , squid go to fish , fish go to somethin so we are living with aliens soon when this planet is destroy :D yay -.-

  • @itseasymkay1000 oh is there two different planet. why don't they like name it different so common people don't get confused? still this planet is 3X bigger. so If we want to live on its surface we have to were a fat suit which you can't get out of ever.

  • The same people that attack Christians defend homosexuals rights to live as they chose; yet, the attack Christians for believing in a God! This is America, where people have a right to believe as they wish! So, lay off! believe as you wish and allow others the same right!

  • Why all the attacks on Christians? I don't believe as they do; however, I respect their right to believe as they wish! I do have a problem with Islam, because they are trying to force people to believe as they do!

  • dude its actually 8X bigger than earth. So we can't live there. If we land there, gravity will be too much for us. Unless you are a super man:)

  • If you live in that new planet which is "3x" more bigger than earth, people living there will be 3x stronger than us because that planet has more gravity force than in our planet. Our planet has 10N force where in that planet it could be 30N force.

  • now we just have to invent warp drive.

  • He's right about one thing, we won't be able to get there in our life time. We would have to travel at the speed of light to get there in twenty years.

  • We couldn't live there. Too much gravity. Our bodies wouldn't be able to cope witht he pressure.

  • wtf kind of name is Gliese 581G

  • Comment removed

  • theoretically, if we were to reach Gleise 581g wouldn't we be impacted negatively by the gravity? it is 3x Earth's size after all.

  • @thecannonball34 especially if you've been traveling in 0 gravity for 20 years.

  • So, there's much work to be done. We need to build an orbital shipyard, finish the 'interstellar drive' research, build a ship, fit colonizer module onto it, when it arrives, issue 'Colonize' command on that planet, and immediately build either a factory on red square to boost industry, or aeroponics plant on green square to boost population growth. What are we waiting for?

  • @mickymauzer Providing Einstein is correct, FTL or light speed travel is impossible. But it has been proven that a mass can achieve 99.9% of the speed of light. To reach Gleise in a relative "short" amount of time we need to develop a vehicle that can travel a good fraction of the speed of light, but speed is'nt really the problem it is power, food/water supplies and most importantly protection from radiation, their are also problems with debris striking the vessel at incredible speeds.

  • @devilcj666 - And I don't think you're aware that it's rude to refer to someone in the third person when they're right in front of you...

  • @Jon Sorry, I just assumed you where like most Youtubers. (in the way that they don't often reply to commenters).

  • @Jon It would take about 200 to 300 years to get there not hundreds of thousands. Now all we have to do is take care of our self's and hope to god we live that long or can make our planet last long enough to get off of it and make it to this other planet.

  • @devilcj666 first of all its 600 light years ... second each light years takes 9.7 trillion kilometers... third you can go there 20 million years

  • Amen NANOFORGE!

  • that is what we need a planet bigger so we won't have to deal with each other maybe there might be some form of peace..the gravity might be a little much we might have to pump iron before we can walk around on

  • in a few centuries we will have the technology to travel lightspeed or higher and we will reach the living planet which is 20 lightyears away though it is three times larger so it should take longer scientists theorize life is primitive at best (think cave men) and since gravity is three times stronger if we plan to conquer the planet their pre-adjustment to 3 g will give them an equalizer (though still unfair) to our advanced technology and we will try to enslave them like always

  • Err........20 lightyears?, that will take 500,000 years to reach with modern space engineering!

  • if true universe are infinite we Are not Alone ANd 1 GALAxy HAve A LIfe there

and IF POSSIBly Its true Have life LIKE TRANSFORMErs AND GUKO and Starcraft Starship Troopeers ANd halo Its possible RIGht infinite BIllion of GAlaxy and Thousand OF planet ?????? thumps DOWN if UR like IT THumps down IF u LIke it

  • this planet is over 120 trillon years away we will never ever make it there even if this planet is suitable for life or who knows this planet could already be supporting life we will never make it there cause thats the way god wanted it to be

  • @purplekushblower420 Fuck God, Earth belongs to Humans and every other living creature on it, it was not meant to be shit, we put me on the moon we have sent a probe beyond our star system, we can do anything, and your God can't say shit because he is'nt real. And yes we will make it there, may be not now or not even in the next century but we will make it there. What do you know you're a fucking creationist. You think we were all poffed into existance. Shut up your to stupid to speak here.

  • Comment removed

  • @PikiruMuzu Are you are a idiot. I have every right to say what I wan't, It's called freedom of speech. If you don't like it don't read my comment or thumb it down or whatever. Surely you have a brain. Earth belongs to every living thing on it not just Humans.

  • Comment removed

  • @PikiruMuzu Being rude and hating. I am refering to God, last time I checked he did'nt exist. You point is automaticly void.

  • Comment removed

  • @NANOFORGE all i have to say is i hope u dont die an athiest cause u wont like what happens next and if there is no god explain to me how we are here alot of scientists will even tell u without god creation is imposible

  • @NANOFORGE all i have to say is i hope u dont die an athiest cause u wont like what happens next and if there is no god explain to me how we are here alot of scientists will even tell u without god creation is imposible

  • @purplekushblower420 I'm not an atheist.

  • @NANOFORGE u said god isnt real and im stupid for being a creationist so that pretty much makes u an athiest

  • @purplekushblower420 I'm not an atheist.

  • Is this true????????

  • Awesome!!!!! I love this, and Pluto is a planet!!!!!!

  • i read it wrong and i though it said destroyed XD

  • INFINTE UNIVERSE!!!!!!!! HHHMMM SOUNDS LIKE MINECRAFT!!!!!

  • Sooooo does this means aliens exist if so then YYYEEEESSSS my friend now owns me 20 bucks

  • Comment removed

  • If we do go there human nature would support you because humans adapt to new things otherwise how else did we end up surviving on earth without being killed by something.

  • its actually 7 times the size of earth

  • @skullncrossbonesxD no it's not, click on the link in the description and read the official Nasa post. Seeing as you probably won't bother checking it I will quote it here, "The new planet designated Gliese 581g has a mass three to four times that of Earth".

  • @wookiedestroyer101 well it told me on another video it was which went into detail about the size and how long it would take them to get there and what machine theyd have to use.

  • Why am I just learning about this now? That's cool.

  • all i want to know if is there's youtube there?

  • whoever watches Dragonball Z would get this. Gravity training >:)

  • @LinkingFate Trunks: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

  • @LinkingFate dude my brother is watching that part where goku is going to namek right now lol

  • 3g's isnt that bad , it would probably feel like driving in a car at around 40 mph

  • @crazyCHRISboom It's three-times your body weight - it's bad.

You'd have to crawl around on your belly, and probably pass out most of the time, due to the stress.

  • @ForeverEmunah so my weight training will pay off if we move? that's awesome

  • @ForeverEmunah so my weight training will pay off if we move? that's awesome plus we wouldl adapt within a few generations living there anyway

  • @tayoyoyo Actually, some people hold the opinion that if you were to live on a planet like that and adapt to the gravity after a while, if you came back to Earth, the change of pressure in your viens would cause them to explode - killing you.

The only reason it likely works in Dragon Ball Z is because it's an Anime.

That might be the sad truth of it.

However, this might also just be a theory, so perhaps Heavy-G training like you postulate is possible.

    It would be nice.

  • nah, its not confirmed that it is habitable. they now say that it might be tidally locked.

but even without that, 3x size of earth!? imagine the massive g force even while sitting at a desk!

  • i wanna just leave it alone so all the living things on that planet don't have to suffer from human stupidity

  • I'm moving there.

  • they could just call it kashyyk it looks like earth ooh maybe we can find wookies

  • @sumdingo so its always night on the side that has no sun lol

  • My theory on how a ship that travels at the speed of light can be possible:

Project a bubble around your dinky space ship, inside of the bubble, change the laws of physics somehow so that when you get faster you get lighter, not heavier, then when you arrive at you destination, stop projecting your bubble, so you'll become heavy again causing you to slow (or just put the space breaks on).

  • @Randomaited My theory on living after you've had your head cut off can be possible:

Have someone slice your head off with an axe, then change your biology somehow so that instead of bleeding out of the stump that is now your neck, you keep the blood inside of you and also your head, then have it so you can still use your brain (or just grow a new body from it).

  • Why the fk did we fukun hav to find another planet if we ever go there we gonna mess it up like earth!

  • I checked out the nasa info and the planet that they say is in the habital zone is in tidal lock... Meaning that one side always faces the sun. No more sun sets :(

  • Do you forget.. 2 times larger.. means it's only for midgets.

  • yess now we canfuck alienslike mass effect XD

  • Now what would have been better in the 1970's would have been Quote "Put an atomic reactor on the moon now" Quoted from someone I forgot the name of. It would have made it easier to leave, eh, "here". Like say mining the oort cloud "outermost belt" and then head "TOWARDS" Alpha Centuri at say a 50th the speed of light, which is, er, faster than a jet, I can tell you that. Then now, 40 years later well have images from say, half a light year away. 2 centuries later, we discover ALOT of life out-

  • @PeterBarnes2 -there. By not doing that, two things are caused.

    1)Less hope for space exploration.

2)American bankruptcy, via lessened industry growth (On the moon).

  • if we do get on a ship that is as fast as voyager 2 its will take about 375,000 years god damn. but if we get an a ship 1000x faster than voyager 2 it will still take about 73 years to get there so im 12 right now and we get on that ship god damn im going to be fucking old as hell 85 years old hell no i want to fuck have a baby watch him/her grow up go to colloge wait if we get on it now no more school for 73 years HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!

  • Earth #2 ......

  • I like how he says if we screw this world up we can always go to another one, but for what? So we can just screw that one up too?

  • why would anyone think that we would be alone? better yet why would anyone think that they could go to a strange world and be welcome? the beings that live there are probably here studying us and see how we treat each other will most likely never let us in their solar system. it is foolish to think that we are alone and it's also foolish to think you can go to a place that you don't deserve to be. 2xs as big as earth? it might be heaven for all the good souls that passed on are welcomed there!!

  • the moon known as titan, is what nasa says is our true last resort, because it has all the elements of life it just must be refine, the temp must b e lowerd by about 100 degrees and some water transformed into oxygen, thumbs this up so people see some more likely info, also titan is a long way but more realisitc along with current research on higher speed space travel and artificial gravity

  • It would still take 350,000 years to get to with present technology.

  • Earth 2.0

  • 20 light years, well if it takes 20 years for light to get there from here, how long does it take with a spaceship or something like that? i aint some super guy at astronomy, but still it would take quite a lot of time to get there :V and also, what if theres other intelligent life there, STAR WARS WILL BECOME REAL (maybe!) xD

  • @nhoodfan

That means theres less school? Idk just throwing that out there

  • Comment removed

  • uuh, the planet has a year of 37 days

and an average temperature of -30 celcius also it has a permanent day-and night- side so, you'd have to travel a lot to get darkness

  • do you really have nothing else better to do with your life than post videos about random things EVERYDAY? seriously dude, get a life.

  • Jon you are a man who thinks just like myself and life is in abundance everywhere!!!

  • If it's Earthlike it doesn't need to be "Earth"-like. The -like suffix already indicates that it is not actually Earth. If you said, "They found another 'Earth,'" then the quotation marks would be justified, since it would signify to your readers that you are aware that it wasn't literally another Earth. You could (I suppose) have used asterisks in the new manner, to set off emphasis: *Earth*-like.

  • One day, there will be an American flag on Gliese 581G

  • That awkward moment when we find out that a more advanced civilization lives there then we get attacked.

  • yeahif we destrroy this plane we can go to an other and then we will destroy and the other and will go to an other planes and we will be PLANET DESTROYERS YEAH

  • IM FUCKING MOVING THERE NOW EVEN BEFORE EARTH IS KILLED BY POLLUTOIN IDC IM FUCKING MOVING THERE WETHER U LIKE OR NOT ASSholes (ur not assholes :P )

  • Why would anyone assume that if we "screwed-up" planet Earth that we would have the luxury of going to another plantet to do the same? Why would we so arrogantly assume that the other planet would not be inhabited with sentient beings whose intelligence surpasses our own and thus would PROHIBIT interlopers from coming to their planet to mess it up like humans are doing our own?

  • yeah thats good news but they have found other before but more fare away

  • *I really want to* tehe I cant even write without typos...

  • Ideally want to someday be able to say: Random Person: hey where do you live? Me: oh just gliese 581g, meh. Random Person: o.O

  • we just found reach! wait for the covenant so much for 100% chance

  • he talks too much...

  • They should name it Gaea the Greek god of Earth. Also size doesn't equal mass, take a look at Saturn, it is the least dense planet in the solar system, and Earth is the densest! Gliese 581 g only has 1.1 to 1.7 gravity compared to Earth, I would definitely live there.

  • Its 780,000 years to get there in a shuttle.

  • Umm the filmer for umm the microwave show thingy

  • It's "Star System" not Solar System.

Sorry about the Name Nazi moment but you probably understand.

  • @BAAM0000 It's a solar system, it has 6 planets revolving around the star.

  • @YoungMoney835 Actually a star system is a star with planets revolving around it. The SOLAR System is our star system that we inhabit and is called this because our star is named Sol. So it is therefore a STAR System

  • @BAAM0000 Planetary system, star system, and solar system, = same crap.

    Homo.

  • why doesn't stuff like this make the news? instead it's always sarah palin did this or sarah palin did that or some politician show his weiner to a women of age... this planet is fucked with all these stupid people in it. even if you have a smoking gun to show life, people are just going to ignore the evidence because it goes against their religion. FTW

  • @chrissanchez777 If there were to be life there it would prove that god does not exist.

  • @YoungMoney835 Disproving organized religoin does not disprove god. The Christian Church has been wrong plenty of times (Like "we are the center of the universe!"), but people still believe in god.

  • @Fireball1815 No i mean if life were to have formed there, it would mean that our life formed exactly like that. Which disproves that a god created us.

  • @YoungMoney835 Who's to say God didn't create them as well? It is physically impossible to prove, or disprove, that God exists. If you try to disprove him by science, one could argue that god created science. If you try to prove him by visions, one could argue your insane or had a dream. = /

  • It's the Internet planet you can touch minecraft with UR bare hands doesnt that sound fucking awesome

  • What if it's the planet of all thoughts and wisdom... Like planet Internet lol

  • I discovered this planet! I sent my findings to NASA and they sent me $4000 dollars. FUCK THEM! I want my credit!

I called it Trista. NASA assholes...
