  • fist thing, guy with two handed swords not aggressive enough and isn't using the reach of the sword to his advantage. if he was a big man he could throw a good defender off guard with powerful blows. all swords have a sweat spot were they make full contact and do the most damage so any other strike would not be considered fatal even on unarmored combatants. shield dude again keeps his shield low and close to his body were he should be using the same as he would his sword.

  • I fight two handed sword myself. The fighter with the two hander in this video needs to change it up a bit... he is always attacking the shield side and just hitting the shield. Should try attacking the weapon side where there is least protection. Learn to do a quick body thrust you can squeak past the shield. He has a good defense when he isn't attacking... a great sword needs to pick its shots so you can leave the defense where it is needed. I'm not trying to insult... just to be helpful.

  • @PowerWagonMatt Thanks for watching and feedback. I am not in this video but he fighter will eventually see your comments.

  • @tsafa1 I hope I haven't offended anyone... I love fighting the greatsword and was just trying to be helpful. If the the people in the video see this and wish to comment to me and if they are upset with my comments I understand and accept any repercussion... Please do not hesitate to let me know if I have insulated you. Cheers

  • @PowerWagonMatt SCA people are generally very open to constructive criticism. The guys in the video are were pretty new a time it was taken (a year ago). They have improved considerably since then. Your comments are still useful for new fighters watching the video.

  • I didn't watch the whole thing because I'm lazy - but shield dude should have run in and bashed the sword guy over.

  • In real life a well placed hit from a sharpened great sword would probably shatter a shield. But then again they weren't made for this kind of dueling situations.

  • Search my videos for the one called Weapons that made Britain - Shield Test. In that video they use a historical shield and hit it with a weapon even more power full then a Greatsword, a two handed axe. A good shield will hold up. Everything has a breaking point, but it is foolish for a swordman to bet his life on breaking through a shield. A skilled swordman will find ways to attack around it.

  • I favor a greatsword myself, even though the SCA ruleset favors the shieldman. It's a labor of love.

  • damn it

i would love to practice like this,

    with real techniques and all

but i don't think it is possible here in south america =//

  • That is awesome :O Is it in England?

  • This practice is in Nutely, NJ, USA every Wed night 7:30 pm.

There are SCA practices in Enland. Go to this site for contacts:

    drachenwald[dot]sca[dot]org/Regnum/uk[dot]php

I will email you a link in case this is not clear

  • Yes, i recieved it , thank you :)

There is a little obstacle :S I am from Bulgaria and we dont have this kind of trainings here. We have never actually had any knights at all. At least not the heavily armored "deffenders of the righteousness" that we see here ;P I still find them rly cool tho :)

  • Gee, you think the shield is big enough? In all seriousness, maybe they should consider making the sword a tad bit smaller.

  • Anyone can use any size shield or sword they like. Regardless of the choice, their are pros and cons. A big shield offers more defense but limit range of motion and visibility. Larger swords deliver more power and have more range, shorter ones allow for more close maneuvering. The skill is in maximizing the pros and limiting the cons.
