@stickypool Saw them in '87. Hell of a show. Collins wore nothing but a T-shirt and sweatpants. Guy was ready to work that night, and he did. They were a great foursome, and played some really cool spins on Clapton's stuff.
damn wish i were at that concert but unfortunately i wasn't born at that time....one on the best songs ever..played by some of the best musicians in the history of the earth
I love this song, I love Phil Collins, his performance in this particular video is incredible, and Erick Clapton plays pretty good in this version too!! Amazing!!
thats right everybody phil collins is a drummer always was he drummed for genisis and then eric clapton picked him up and he actually is an awesome drummer and of course singer too
So much talent on one stage. Collins & Clapton are both brilliant in their own right, but Greg Phillinganes & Nathan East are two excellent pros who certainly deserve much more credit. For so many years, East has played in studio & on tour for both Collins & Clapton, while Phillinganes' keyboard & voice has been heard on some of the most popular songs of all time, playing for the likes of Michael Jackson & Stevie Wonder. The way he sings harmony here with Phil is an absolute CLASSIC!!
@zatzi87 Second best, I agree that this is awesome and I do love Claptons music, and you probably can't begin to compare the two bands but Pink Floyd "Delecate Sound of Thunder" has to be the greatest Live preformance ever, and if anyone hasn't heard the aalbum then... well you've missed something very powerful... Just my opinion...
Extraordinary. Amazing. This might just be the best live song ever played. Though I think one's even better - look up the In The Air Tonight he played on his Farewell Tour. It will give you the chills, no kidding. Imo it's even better than this one and that one's already f*cking great.
Best part of this song. "Well I know why you keep your silence up. No you don't fool me. See the hurt doesn't show. But the pain still grows. It's not stranger to you an me. (Drums!) Very emotional, and drums really help bring that out after those lyrics.
that's not what it's about man,, If you play Cinema Show to someone on the streets, they won't know what it is. If you play the break from In The Air to someone, 9 out of 10 will probably know it,, that's the magic of this song. ( I do prefer Cinema Show as a drummer myself but this breaks are pretty damn hard to do right with kickdrum etc. all at the right spot...
I love so much this song, this singer Mr Philip Collins...his voice, his way to sing...to play drum(a very trade mak!) and when I do listen in to him, I feel better. and yes it's truly phenomenal because it's very very difficult to sing and play drum at the same time. There are few moments when he does both these things with closed eyes! Sorry for my english.Ciao
Clapton voiced his support of controversial political candidate Enoch Powell and announced on stage that Britain was in danger of becoming a "black colony". Clapton was quoted telling the audience: "I think Enoch's right ... we should send them all back. Throw the wogs out! Keep Britain white!"
funny thing he sang a song who shot the sheriff which was done by bob marley!
Never mind Clapton. Collins doesn't get enough credit for this gig. That was just awesome stuff, vocals and drumming were first class. Amazing stuff Phil!
Same man it pisses me off!! And now i've replied to your comment, when my friends see it they will think i have bad taste for watching the cadbury advert thing which was "so last year!" Lmao
Absolutely makes me want to go to a Phil Collins concert right now. That guy is an amazing performer. And Eric Clapton & Friends shows are always great.
@Pillowmania00 so to say it but i cant believe your saying that eric clapton is best ever in tthis video listen to the strength and passion in phil collins i mean yeah eric clapton is straight up the best guuitarist but refering to this video phil collins is out of this world

If theres one thing that Phil Collins is good at is turning into a piece of shit every musical project hes involved with. Not only he destroyed Genesis, but he also turned Clapton into a wuss during the eighties, probably because he was too drunk to find a better drummer and producer. Fortunately, Clapton has survived many tragedies during his life and carreer.

i agree with that genesis was a poppy crap ever since gabriel left, but dont agree with this clapton thing - i watched some dvd from this era, and i found this show very boring (im not exactly a clapton's music fan, although i bow to his guitar skill) with the only highlight being this phil's song... :)
pepsirockstar and aznedvin are both right: that guitar looks to be one of the very first ('88)Clapton Signature Series Fenders. The first ones were made with Lace Sensor pickups, which look distinctive because the pole pieces don't poke up through the plastic pickup covers. Only a few made between '88 and 2001 survive: after that they've all been made with Vintage Noiseless pups.
I love the early Clapton Sig's electronics. My workhorse Fender is almost identical, minus the name & resale value.

Was this Birmingham? I wasn't there but had a copy on videotape. The player eventually "ate" it thru overuse so great to see it again.
