  • 1:14 would have been a great time to just segue right into Dead Star.

  • Love lightning bolt, respect muse. In covering this song, they show respect for Lightning Bolt, something that is well-needed in mainstream music.

  • Nice to know that Muse are fans of LB. Some people take this shit too seriously, but it's jsut a few fans doing a little cover of a song they like at a gig. No big deal.

  • You're right, I don't know LB bolt.

  • I love Muse more than LB, but this song is certainly not on par with the original. Still pretty good though.

  • I'm so biased. I like Muse's version better but really Muse could probably do anything including bluegrass and I will still think it is the best thing in the world.

  • I just think this is sweet that they did this.

  • too slow sorry Muse

  • Jesus wept.

  • Definitely not better than the original, it lacks the heaviness of LB's version. I do give credit to Muse for covering an LB song tho....

  • Comment removed

  • yeah original is much better, but chris didn't do a bad job, its not as fuzzed out as when brian plays it nor up to speed still not that bad. its nice to see there are lightning bolt fans and muse fans that cross over

  • I'm not so much a fan of Muse but I respect them for doing this.

  • Comparing LB and Muse is stupid. Because LB are noise/experimental rock and Muse are prog/newprog/symphonic rock

  • hahaha i love muse hi

  • I dig both Muse and Lightning Bolt and this is terriffic

  • just watched the original, first video in related and hopefully it was just the quality cuz that was so shitty

  • lightening bolt fans shut it, muse are mainstream yea.. and loved lightening bolt, and thought they'd big them up a bit, you fuckin numpties..

saying lightening bolt are better than muse, is ridiculous in my opinion, yea its all opinions, but fuck off come on.

  • Lightning Bolt's original is better than Muse's cover.

But Muse are a better band than LB.

  • explain exactly how it is better? the only think i think that could be better about music is how well the instruments are played, please get rid of your fanboy attitude, it causes a lot of frustration

  • Retrospectively, it was pretty narrow-minded of me to say that they "are a better band". But, I suppose if I were to make a case for it, I'd point out Muse's intricate composition and arranging skills, and their ability to apply their talents to a wide variety of styles. Yes, they are also proficient on their respective instruments, but then again, so are Lightning Bolt.

  • @froggerchanovsky i meant the band, not the song sorry, and thing i can think of*

  • who cares! both band are awesome!

  • shitty but i totally agree with the video info

  • Whoa if this on bass then I want to play it..

  • LIGHTNING FUCKING BOLT!

  • Cool i guess, never much cared for Muse but the fact that they even know LB is a step in the right direction. Not enough energy though.

  • same

  • @xbyiu97 muse have plenty of energy in there songs they were mucking around with this it was intro to a song

  • RAAAAAGGGGEEEEE

  • nm guess it's bass

  • i just noticed something on the vid desciption which is wrong. matt does play during this song.

i think the uploader is gettnig confussed between this song and the osaka jam which matt doens't play (although towards the end of the jam he does join in)

  • no confusion, matt does not play any of this. he was backstage running around with a hand held camera when dom and chris were playing this.

  • oh. well am mixing up my facts here then lol

  • why does it sound like guitar at 1:40 unless he's playing really high up on bass...

  • That part is the same as the intro, if you listen to it. Both are done on bass. It is up on the 14th fret on the G string, which is the highest note he plays.

  • @nendo In the Muse biography, they talk about how Matt mucked around backstage filming security guards and the front row while Chris and Dom played this.

  • its funny cause i knew nothing about this cover but i love both the bands. i like this alot, but its nothing like lightning bolts version, this version is cool and like creepier but the drumming doesnt compare to lightning bolts original version

  • Ok I'm a huge lightning bolt fan and I assumed this was gonna be the ultimate blasphemy towards the Brians... but it's actually kinda cool they turned lightning bolt into stoner rock... I love stoner rock.

  • this whole thing was just one big joke

matt was backstage with a handheld camera linked up to the stage screens rocking out with teh security guards lol

  • this deffinantly doesnt top lightning bolt but this showed me that more people then i thought actually heard of them

  • i think LB's is better (yes i've heard of lightning bolt). although this one is still good

  • Ive never heard of Lightning Bolt but this sounds Fricking Awesome in my opinion!

  • Shame Lightning Bolt is an highly underrated bandin comparison to Muse! In my opinion Muse doesn't come near Lighting Bolt, but I praise them for honoring such an awesome band

  • I agree with everything you just said.

  • To be honest, I'd like to see Lightning Bolt try to cover Muse! I doubt that the more pretentious of the Lightning Bolt fans would be so vocal in that situation.

  • LIGHTNING BOLD BEST LIVE BAND IN THE WORLD

i saw muse live and thought WOAH but then i saw lightning bolt and it was really like something else.

  • i think they did well... not as dancable as Lightning Bolt.

  • muse are pretty cool i guess...

but lightning bolt are too good for them(no offense muse fans).

no one should cover a lightning bolt song

    period.

  • ..Wrong.... lol , Muse is too good to be Covering them ;P Kidding, Theya re good if this is their Riff, it sounds amazing with Matt playing it, Just be thankful muse wants to hahah ;P Cheers dude

  • matt doesn't play any of this. just dom and chris.

  • And the from 00:19 and after that? That`s not like a bass. It sounds more like a guitar to me, and I play it. 00:30 is obviously bass. But I don`t think before that

  • its definately all bass, just very high. matt didn't appear on stage till this was finished, and they opened with apocalypse please.

  • Strange, it really sounds like guitar and this is played in Dm while Apocalypse Please is played in F#m/C#m. Maybe transposed it.

  • Apocalypse Please is in F# minor, but not C# minor. It feature C#, as it is part of the F# chord family.

Btw, why would they need to transpose Apocalypse Please just because Dracula Mountain is in a different key?

  • If you play it right behind it, it sounds a bit false. If you have a little pause then its ok. But all interlude`s from muse are in the key from the song behind it. Sunburn at Glasto for example.

  • Well, no they're not actually but they all modulate into the new song, like the one at Glastonbury.

But it doesn't matter what key a song is in. If there is a pause, it's sounds fine :)

  • at the end of the earls court interview matt says dom and chris are doing a lbolt cover check it out.

  • Digitech Whammy Pedal. Put a bass through and hey presto 00:19 - 00:30

  • With effects you could definitely do that on a bass (an Electro-Harmonix POG springs to mind), the high stuff and the low stuff never overlaps, definitely all bass (Lightning bolt the band whose song it is is just a Drummer and a Bassist)

  • brain the bass player of lighting bolt has his guitar in cello tuning and a few guitar snares on his bass.

  • I think he has a banjo string on his bass but yeah its cello tuning

  • @olpaxis at some songs, chris has a electric guitar string on his bass. for example at assassin.

  • @Gusafy Which makes sense because Brian Gibson of Lightning Bolt uses banjo strings on his bass.

  • Im a fan of lightning bolt i dont listen to muse much but I think its an interesting cover although i do love the energy of the original. At least it got more exposure for lightning bolt.

  • Pitiful

  • Y'know, the energy is what makes Lightning Bolt so damn awesome. Muse completely left that part out.

  • Im pretty sure if you SAW Them Playing this youd be Blown away

  • doesn't work with an electric guitar.

  • i think its fucking awesome.

  • ahhh don't worry they're just pissing around and having fun here. not really muse's style and apparently they're not good at pulling it off, haha. but jeezus calm down people!

  • i cant believe how bad this cover is. it must be even cooler when played on a stage in an arena!

  • this is the ultimate proof that there is no god

  • Just an intro people just an intro.

  • Why cover something and have it sound like the original, only with less energy. If they were going to cover it, they should have down it super super death metal slow,...and kept the non 4/4 time sigs. As it is it's a weak cover, but still a shout out to THE AWESOME LIGHTNING BOLT

  • It's not actually a proper cover, they just played it occasionally during some gigs. I don't know why you're complaining, Muse if anything got Lightening Bolt listeners because Muse played it at Earl's Court and tens of thousands of people heard Lightening Bolt as a result. Also, Muse's riffs beat Lightening Bolt anyway - Plug in Baby vs Dracula Mountain? Hmmm. Great band though lightening bolt, just stop dismissing Muse because they played Dracula Mountain like 10 times :/

  • But as a result of muse covering lightning bolt, far too many scene kids listen are starting to liten to them, which isn't good. But the cover was alright...

  • Bah I hate scene people lol

  • actually, plug in baby isnt that intense on guitar. look at the tabs and see for yourself

however i do see your point, Matt Bellamy is immense on guitar

  • I didn't say Plug in Baby was at all difficult, it's piss easy to play on guitar. I was saying it's the far superior riff, difficult isn't what makes a good riff most of the time :)

  • Yeah, Muse`s guitar solo`s are mostly really easy or there isn`t one. But I realized when I listened to KoC that it`s not about technique skills. Tom Morello is techniacly better, but he can`t make a riff like Plug In Baby.

  • Matt can actually do some technically very difficult stuff but he just doesn't chose to put it on albums. For example, Butterflies and Hurricanes live Wembley he does some difficult fast arpeggios and New Born live at Kroq 2004's solo. But yeh, both amazing guitarists for what they WRITE. There are so far more technically advanced guitarists (who aren't at all famous) but who are shit compared to Tom and Matt, because they can't write :)

  • Yeah, Dragonforce is maybe the best technical band, but on the album. I heard a song live from Grasspop. False man! They didn`t tuned the guitar right.

  • the band name isnt dracula mountain nendo.

  • ahh shit my mistake

  • lol :P the band the song is from is called lightning bolt.

  • @olpaxis dragonforce speed up there sounds in the studio's there not really that good

  • Ugh. Don't even try, Muse. No one can cover a Lightning Bolt song. They are way too awesome.

  • wow this is dissapointing.

  • The guitar is passable, if horribly flat and lifeless compared to the original, but the drumming just sounds pathetic compared to Brian Chippendale's crazy fast amazingness.

I'm not having a pop at Muse, I do quite like them, but this cover just doesn't work. It's SOOOO slow.

  • its a good rendition of the original but not better

  • lightning bolt are pretty uncoverable cos you're not gonna be able to make it louder, faster, tighter or more insane than the original so you're doomed to slight lameness before you even start...

  • hahah yeh. same when people try and cover a muse song. there no energy in othe rpeoples performances lol

  • hahahahaha, lightning bolt is better! they makes music vith variable time signature, but muse has played dracula mountain with 4/4 time signatire :D

  • This version isn't exciting to listen to. This is about 1/100000000000 of the energy Lightning Bolt would have put into it.

  • HAHAW! the drumming is about 0.37% as good as the LB version.

  • If anyone can cover whoever they like, I think Muse can.

  • Aye, I'll drink to that.

  • Nobody should ever cover Lightning Bolt. Ever.

  • @Spyral2112 they didnt cover it they were doing just little intro to there songs where they muck around at the there end of a song or at start.....

  • too in time.

    too clean

    snare is too fuckin low!

    its too fuckin slow

  • @wastedem and that is what makes it brilliant, yes?:D

  • this sounds kinda bad compared to the original :(

  • Yay i've been waiting for someone to upload this.

Thanks, I like it, I like Lightning Bolts original as well, not sure which is better.
