  • Awesome song, fantastic sound, perfect harmonies. I absolutely love these guys.

  • why can't music today be more like this

  • God, -this takes me back...

  • I like how some songs are sung at a different pace but they're still perfectly in sync

  • I'm seeing them in a few months, I just hope they sound half as good as they did in this concert! I like Stills but Crosby dominated this concert, new respect!

  • One of my favorite CSN tunes. My band Woodnote always plays this song-great for singing harmony.

  • CSN still kicking and rockin....blendingly nice! the best,..

  • Dead on the ground

  • I'll take CSNY or CSN any day over all this crap they put out now! Neil Young is awesome, but CSN is so strong they can have him or not. Not many bands could pull that off. They are amazing. And Neil Young is also amazing with them or alone. True f'n talent.

  • OK, enough of all the crap. Thanks for the vid. I enjoyed it very much.

  • yes, one of their best performance on this song

  • that's how I feel..helplessly hoping (for the 70's to return LOL) ..these three guys,

these three voices together, it's just magic..I love e'm with Neil, love 'em without Neil, love 'em all as individual artists!

  • Those harmonies are spooky good, even now.

  • ok ok yell at me if ya want but I got a straight no Bs question: Im not a big fan of Niel Young thats biend nice so ya know where i am coming from, Question why did they add him to the band they clearly did great without him they clearly did great with him what did he add though?

  • I agree, CSN with out Young's adnoid voice harmonized much better that with. Legend has it that Gram Nash used to turn Young's mike down so the rest of the band could oversing him.

  • u gonna keep acting like nothing happened?

  • We are all looking to this song for a reason. Hoping things on the planet would just be at peace. Helplessly watching as the world becomes a more and more complicated place to live. "Stand by the stairway you'll see something certain to tell you; confusion has it's cost." Bring back the love and peace era of the 60s, but this time we get it right. "We are FORRRrrrr each other."

  • awesome - thanks for posting

  • Music will never be like it used to. No we have too many advanced gadgets that hide bad artists. I am young but grew up with this music.

Music nowadays you cant play your guitar with anymore.

  • If you ever wondered what music is SUPPOSED to be...THIS is it!

  • I was just lucky enough to be young when this was all new. Wow, changed my way of thinking. I'm waiting for the next thing.

  • I would love to see these guys in concert!

  • Really beautiful song. Love CSN. Stephen Stills plays such lovely guitar in this.

  • Still so good after all this time. This is one of the best versions I have ever heard.

  • They were so young when they wrote these words. So deep, so meaningful, and they have certainly stood the test of time. What current writer is going to step up and write long lasting songs like these guys did so long ago?

  • @bronzester Man,give me a break....My opinion is shitty?Why?Do I have to Like Neil Young?Well I have nothing against him...but i prefer the CSN Than CSNY.No doubt about it.

  • @EduHMerlin my friend no your opinion is not blank it is valuable as any others but whether or not you like neil Young or not he will always be a part of CSN's past and a part of who they are. One cannot exsist without the other ( No I understand they are not nor have they been together for decades, but I mean in a spiritual sense)

I just miss the music they all made.

  • @EduHMerlin I wrote that for someone using "beroth77" as a nick. Is it you either ?

  • @EduHMerlin still cant understand y people say that... Neil Young is fucking amazing and added sooo much 2 CSN, so with them Young they were just as amazing

  • @EduHMerlin

you don't have to like Neil. Down by the river is a Neil Young song. Not CSNY

    so Baked? you are.

Neil had the songs after the CSN debut. Stills ran after him sniffing his butt for more

  • @zinman916 too bad Young can't sing for doodoo.

  • @zinman916 From everything I've read about these guys, Neil Young didn't even perform on any of the songs he didn't write, which was easily over half the damn album. He was credited with writing two songs, and co-writing one. Neil Young is great, but he did add a totally different feel to the group, and frankly, I'm more fond of CSN myself. The first two albums were incredible, but the harmonies, Stills' guitar, and the songwriting was exceptional on their first time out.

  • Everyone's reality..nice

  • Cleanliness, sex, nourishment and CSN&Y.

  • Omg I am seeing them for the 6th time wednesday the 1st of sept...I am so excited again! They are just the best!

  • The song is harmonically noteworthy because it begins on vi, or the submediant, and never really settles down to the tonic until the end of each version. That’s excellent harmonic control. Graham sings the tenor, David the middle voice and Stephen the bottom melody. The song was written by Stephen Stills.

  • @PinkPrism008 Indeedy --- and only Stills of the three knows theory, actually! Graham and David developed the finest ears in rock - that's why they never need autotune to this day.

  • A dime or a billion dimes - who cares? Isn't what artists do is be artists, no matter where they perform their art?

  • They played a private party in Las Vegas in 2004 for a multi-national company I worked for. Pure big business!

I was surprised by it...but I enjoyed the concert. I was the only one that knew all the words to their songs. Stunned the young guys...the old guys couldn't believe I could remember...the really old guys...called 'um sell outs.

  • I just saw this concert DVD last week for the first time at my friend's house while we were hanging out- I was floored by the vocal harmonies and the guitar playing, especially Stephen Stills'. This is great stuff!

  • Yes they are three together and for each other what could be better just perfect harmony

  • so much more unique and beautiful then the bee gees - granted, they were fantastic but so much more mainstream then crosbystillsyoungandnash.

    Peace.

  • great music! go on!

  • damn, this sounds better than the electric versions, in my opinion.

  • great harmony

  • Not as good as it is with Neil Young but really good!

  • Greatest alliteration ever in pop music.

  • brilliant alliteration, it's poetry and music in one song... i am still amazed

  • Didn't see Neil Young in this video.

  • "Helplessly Hoping - Crosby, Stills & Nash" ... no young :)

  • Neil Young's never been on this song. Are you thinking of "Helpless"?

  • Hobbified: He was never on a studio track, but I'm relatively sure he played along on some tours, even if it wasn't exclusively billed as CSNY; unfortunately, my twenty-something age shows since I can't name any of the performances off-hand, and it's tough to pick them out based on video, thanks to Young's general reluctance to being filmed. Even when he's off-camera, though, you can still make out his distinct picking style when an extra guitar part's thrown into the mix.

  • I doubt anyone on here wants to hear your tedious comments.

  • basically you are an uneducated retard for saying this blasphemy. I forgive your ignorance, you keep listening to your rap shit and leave the real music to others

  • Thank you I could not have said it better.

  • Thank you Chuck Mullis:) Great:)

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard in my life. i love it.

  • One of many songs that Stills wrote for first love Judy Collins.

  • Great song and performance.

  • awesome!

  • Love it. What a beautiful sound!!

We've got a new cover of this you should check out if you get a minute! Come on over.

  • They make the most out of the simplist here.

  • I don't know what it is about this song but it always makes me sad.

  • i know what you mean-there is some sort of longing in it? can't really place it-but i feel it.

  • darintaylor79, I think you are sensing the morose and puerile sentimentality of this song.

  • I think it's a song about lovers in the early stage of a lover affair. "Her harlequin hovers nearby. Awaiting a word." They are both struggling to communicate their feelings, and not doing a very good job at it. Hence the phrase, "confusion has its costs."

Like most men, the man in this song wants to run at the first site of love. "Wishing he could fly."

He knows she loves him, because "Love isn't lying, its loose in a lady who lingers."

    They are 1 person.

    They are 4 each other.

  • you can see where the Bee Gees got there harmonies from

  • lol you aint serious man

  • as all musicians they took inspiration -

.... but they were less mainstream directed in their ventures than the BG - please correct me if I'm wrong.

    ;)

  • In my house, we listen to these guys all the time...This song is my 14 year old daughter's favorite...In today's world, that is such a comfort to me...

  • @wonderfreakinwoman can I come to live in your house? lol I love them too

  • @wonderfreakinwoman You're doing a good job then.

  • @wonderfreakinwoman don't worry 'bout it, music still lives :) this from a 23 year old guy from Holland..

  • Beautiful harmonies. I love this song.

  • they're already on tour! go to csn website for the schedule, don't miss it this time!

  • If I could go to just ONE more concert, this would be it. Do they tour anymore? I'd run up and get arrested for kissing David Crosby straight on the mouth!
