@brcreature I know about no income tax in Florida, same like in TX, TN and I guess other states. Give me some examples of such low paying jobs, to understand the... "issue", please. But what I know first hand, gas is way more expensive than in neighboring states, Georgia and Alabama, I always get into Florida with a full tank of gas, a mystery for me why gas is so expensive compared with other southern states.
@401RoadWarrior they have to make up for not brining in income tax, like rob ford he want's to get rid of this and that but can't come up with way to make up the lost money.
I don't know if Van Buren St is still there or not. My relatives and parents told me it has really changed since the new freeways, bridges, and tunnel were completed in the late 1980s.
@BBQFanNo1 Yes, still there, right bellow I-10, personally didn't drive too much in that area of Phoenix, usually Loop 101 to Bell Road and west to Surprise around Hwy 60.
Drove and vacationed in Chicago once. In the Summer of 1996. Drove and vacationed to Montauk Long Island and visited during the vacation NYC once. In late July 1977. Took the 426 mile mainline thruway section route from Peace Bridge I-190 Buffalo to NYC Major Deegan Expressway. The City did look like 10 days after the Blackout Disaster mess. Fortunately I took the vacation on the weekend of July 22nd to 25th. Not the15th to 18th a couple days after the Blackout chaos.
When to Florida and Miami once. In 1984. Took I-90 to I-81 south at Syracuse through Binghamton,Scranton until Harrisburg took I-83 south to Baltimore by pass then I-95 through MD,WASH DC,VA,NC,SC,GA,FL to Miami. Took the same route back.
@BBQFanNo1 1984? that's like in the stone age LOL Yes, that route is the ONLY one I'm using any time I head to Florida, don't understand why everybody on Canadian TV, CTV, CityTV, Global, etc., when they show traffic down to Florida for some March brake or other occasions they always mention 401 to Detroit and then I-75 all the way to Florida, that's a longer route than the one you just mentioned. Or maybe ppl wanna stick with one road, when our route involves lots of roads, no big deal IMHO.
@401RoadWarrior For some reason most people take the Windsor-Detroit route to Florida. Or the PA,WEST VA I-79/I-77 route to SC then onto I-26 to I-95. I like MD route. My Sister,Brother In Law,Niece, and Nephew live in Frederick MD. I take the RT 15 way from I-390 at Corning south through Williamsport PA to just before Harrisburg PA and take the by pass route around city and back on RT 15 through Emmitsburg MD area. Excellent restaurant for breakfast buffet there.
@BBQFanNo1 San Diego YES, been there twice and it's beautiful, very clean with no road congestion, these are the things that matter for me as a tourist on 4 wheels, Miami? the opposite, dirty and very congested, jaywalking everywhere, plus in many stores when you speak English, God help you, so Miami is NOT one of my favs at all. Try Corpus Christi, TX, exactly like San Diego, or Charleston, SC, but that's more historic but beautiful as well. San Antonio, TX also pretty sexy, El Alamo Plaza.
@401RoadWarrior Definately. I have relatives in San Diego and Scottsdale AZ. My family always drove never flew for any vacations. The first time I when down to both for vacation and visit my relatives was in the Spring of 1961. I was just a 7 year old kid but I do vaguely remember going to the San Diego Zoo and Mission Beach. One the way return to home we stopped in Scottsdale. Phoenix was much smaller and like an older Southwest U.S. town at that time in the early 1960s. It was nowhere as big
@BBQFanNo1 I lived in Phoenix/Sun City/Surprise for a while, still have some family members over there, very good memories but also a speeding ticket somewhere on Loop 101, not bad if you are able to spend winters down there, but also not a good idea to adventure outdoors after dark in Phoenix, muchachos every where and they always need money from anybody... LOL
@401RoadWarrior Phoenix was nowhere as big a metropolis city then as it is today. The next time went I with my family was in the Spring 1973. I just first had my driving license. Both my father and myself drove down to both San Diego and Scottsdale and back. The Interstate system was just starting to expand covering the U.S. in the late 60s. Ran into a bad early Spring blizzard like snowstorm in Ohio on the way down but made it through. Drove all night the first day of vacation because of the..
@401RoadWarrior Meant to continue mentioning drove all night the first night of vacation because of the snowstorm stoppage delay. I-90 just east of Cleveland was where the storm hit.
@ThreeCatsScratching So you're coming from Houston, beautiful city, been there twice, on I-90 right after Alabama, so before Pensacola, stop at the first FL Welcome Center and get a free FL DOT map also it's like a freakin' library in there, tons of maps, brochures, pamphlets, etc., all free, and also try their FL orange juice in a very little cup, juicy!
@401RoadWarrior Well I remember going to the one on I-95 coming in from Georgia, a few years back, Florida definitely has the best Welcome Centers.I plan on staying in Orlando.
@ThreeCatsScratching Have you seen the TX Welcome Center on I-20 coming from Shreveport, Louisiana? that's a beauty!
Here is the one on I-95 getting into FL from Georgia:
/watch?v=N4-maXdMVuQ
Enjoy the Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and the rest of the "gang" LOL, Orlando it's freakin' expensive especially if you have kids, bring a lot of cash for the Disney Land, but it's nice, I love it.

Gasoline has got to be expensive now. I felt pump pinch in 2008 when I went to the Muskokas and up to Sudbury in November 2005.

Especially around September.July and August it is still very heavy with tourist season traffic.
