I am a squash player myself, and normally, the strategy is to just keep rallying in the first couple of sets, just to get your opponent tired. The only time you play a trick shot is when you are really confident that your opponent is out of position, or during the last few sets, because then, your opponent would be too tired to chase madly after the ball.
@Moneydmja Squash at pro level is 50% fitness/focus and 50% talent. Ramy is by far the most skilled squash player in the world but his laziness prevents him from being unstoppable.
@jozzo6 perhaps so, but his skills are incredible and sometimes he does run for the ball. The gameplay is it keep the ball tight and hard to reach at the back court, so that when your opponent is unable to return with a good shot, you can kill it. Ramy is capable of doing that, its just that at some times, he is less capable at front court play
@Moneydmja I agree that many of Ramy's nicks are crazy and when he is on his game its tough to get the ball out of the corners, but sometimes i think his mental focus can be broken by players such as Nick Matthew, who is, in my opinion, not necessarily as talented, but has a better mentality to stick with tough points and/or games.
I could not say it better, Matthew is a better tactician and Ramy plays on instincts but both are just great to watch, completely different styles but amazing matches when you have a Matthew vs Ashour game.
@linkthemaster1 , sorry if my comment was rude, but these 2 players are really top of the top world squash with great racket skills, so, saying that they only hit hard and make drops its unfair. They are playing such a pace that in video is not possible to see and analyze all what its happening inside the court, and they use all sort of shots even of course the straight and x court drive are the basics. Always n the first game players are settling to the court so the precision isnt he best.
@remyiyy actually, they play basic shots because its safe. That's what my coach said. But if you ever play with them then they will hit the really low and tricky ones. But because these are international tournaments, it is important that they do not take a very high risk. But of course, they do trick shots sometimes in exibition games
@linkthemaster1, You're wrong my friend. There are many shots in squash, but some of them are more popular than others. And - just like Moneydmja said - pros are playing basic shots to not take an unnecessary risk and to make perfect scoring situation. You have to play squash (not 1 or 10 times) to understand it.
Hey! In soccer there is only one shot - just kicking a ball, is it make soccer boring? Sorry for my poor english, greetings from Poland.
@linkthemaster1 not end of story, ....there are many more shots than that, there's straight drive, crosscourt drive, dropshot, straight volley, crosscourt volley, boast, reverse boast, volley drop, volley nick and lob.
now thats 10 different shots, and there are several more which i don't know the names of.

I am new to squash, could someone explain to me the aim of it, is it just hit it against a way in which the opponent can't return it.
TheAlanVickersShow 10 months ago
@TheAlanVickersShow pretty much, you can't let the ball bounce twice and you have to hit it within the boundaries

It was a head racquet in this match but he has switched back to prince since then. Head Microgel 125 here but now uses the Prince Airstick 130.
