  • the DC9 really is the perfect airplane. It's so versatile!

  • Beeeeeep.... Beeeeeep.... Beeeeeep.... Beeeeeep....

  • ahh the power of reverse thrust...amazing!

  • Where are The REAR VIEW MIRRORs ?? :-))

  • Abdul, reed FCOM and then write your opinion.

  • thats easy every aircraft can do that! All u do is reverse thrust and the air plane will go backward

  • I want to see a 747 do this.

  • Brings back FSX memories

  • Nice video! It's quite rare to see this.

  • I remember this being normal at MSP.

  • when is a plane allowed to ''power back''?

  • hes gonna drift

  • Neat procedure, but not commonly done. Many airport jurisdictions expressly forbid a power reverse or even a power turnout. Smaller airports used to do this more often.

  • Is this DTW.

  • where they fit the rear view mirror on this airplane....i am serious....

  • A lot of the misunderstanding in reference to powerbacks comes from the crash of Air Florida Flight 90.

Needless to say, performing a powerback even with a DC-9, would be ill advised in snow and or ice conditions.

However, under the conditions in this clip, I agree with the others that the chances are very remote the engine will pick up any FOD.

  • look at 0:37 the wing almost hit the guy. then the guy says " eh, what the hell man!?"

  • That's at Wayne County airport!

  • I guess they couldn't get the union tug driver off his break...

  • @tlfrantz1 XD

  • @tlfrantz1 yeah...if management wouldnt pay themselves 50 million per yeah, they wouldnt have a union. they should pay their employees a fair wage.

  • @tlfrantz1 probably lol

  • @tlfrantz1

    STFU. :)

  • Wait I thought using reverse thrusters under 60 knots damages the angines???

  • @MatisDaBest Not always, DC-9 engines set high above the ground and the probability of damage is low.

  • @Bazukavia Wait so the damage is to do with the height off the ground, sorry but I have never really known how it actually damages the engines?

  • @MatisDaBest Damaging caused by stones and dust raised by the reverse thrust and pulled into the engine.

  • @Bazukavia aaaaaahhhh now I get it, thanks ^_^

  • @Bazukavia Perfectly fine if you a have clean ramp. check for FOD.!

  • It is called a Powerback

  • the pilots using thrust reverser for pushback

  • almost every jet plane with reversers can do tat if they wants to... The aim of the reverser is to slow down the plane by pushing the plane back wards...

  • its nice to see a nice Dc9 in the old NWA colors they looked good

  • classic powerback. nice!

  • actually a 747couldnt do that moron

  • yeah a 747 is not able to do that

  • it is not very difficult to do this. A 747-400 could also do it but it only would take a little longer

  • Very nice !

  • Great video!!!!! I don't know a jet airliner can do that with the trust reversers!

  • I've seen it in the past alot, but it really is a waste of fuel
