trying to comprehend, understand, or break down why this band is so brilliant is like trying to figure out our sun by staring at it with your naked eyes.
@selatik1 there isn't enough tempo difference to make them less tired. I think they have just settled in and aren't being as aggressive. Happens when you play a song on tour.. hundreds of times once you finish rehearsals and play some shows.
@selatik1 That's not right. Then why did they play Camera Eye on the last tour (which is harder and faster) a notch above the record night after night? And why did they play Animate this slow even on the T4E Tour? It's Neil's timing in the beginning he needs to work on. He always speeds it back up to pace at the end. Same thing with Show Don't Tell live. Always a bit too slow.
Rush is ever amazing, all 3 musicians, but Peart being able to be such a virtuoso as a drummer and write beautiful lyrics will always resonate strongly within my heart
Man, Geddy's technique on this one is obvious, even if you alternate your two fingers to play this song, its difficult to get that sound Geddys doing in this song. GEDDY RULES!!
@aaronalpha147 And then you get up and get in the car to drive the hour or more back home and realize you have to use the bathroom, then right when you pull up to your house, you piss yourself and you say: "Ehhh...it was worth it seeing the 3 best musicians..."
Explosive. Love this song. I wish they could have like a trigger that would set off all the other Geddys during the later choruses to get that awesome multiplied vocal line
Oh man! I have LOVED this band all my life! Every year i worry that it will be their last, but they just keep blowing me away! Talk about the ALL TIME BEST! I used to argue with my buddy between RUSH and Led Zeppelin - Robert Plants vocals at a young age, is the only aspect that even comes close, and thats just close. Geddys still a much better musician!!!
Man... all my life change when i heard my first Rush single (Tom Sawyer) in 2002... And it's Start Again when i saw live in Argentina in the Time Machine Tour 15/10/10
listen to this song, the studio version from the cd, with headphones. you can really hear the power and force in the song that way. I can't imagine what an actual record would sound like with a good turntable, cartridge, and good set of heaphones, if the cd version sounds as good as it does...
@maxinblax777 They run many emulators and triggers that any of them can set off - Neil sets off most from his set, and it all adds to the sound for their excellent well-rounded live performances. Like the piano at the end of Spirit of Radio - that is triggered by one of them.
Did anyone else hear the new sound Alex gave the guitar at 1:51 to about 2:15 or so? I have seen them at least 20 times and never have they played this song any better! Best, most talented band in history - by far.
What happened to Neil's 1,2,3,4,1,2 count at the start?! Or does he drop that count for live performances? Why the hell was it left on the "Counterparts" album anyway? Great live performance by Alex, Geddy and Neil with Alex proving you can do a creative and interesting guitar solo wthout playing ridiculously frenetic speed licks, runs and scales.
@xhamlin I'm not sure. Don't get me wrong, Alex is a great guitarist. I believe that his guitar work will last through the ages. Personally, I've never heard another guitar player who can evoke the same "feeling" I get when I hear him play his instrument. Geddy, on the other hand plays bass, which is hard in itself, and sings at the same time. And Neil, well... I can say the same thing I said about Alex about all 3 members of Rush. I guess it depends on what you mean by "best" musician.
So very true! A shot in the arm with pure unadulterated, high-velocity energy! I listen to this in the morning to make a 'blah' day so much better. :)

like many RUSH songs since they stopped recording with Terry Brown, the live version is clearly better than the studio version. Period.

Rush are consistently brilliant at their own unique genre. Thats their downfall. They cannot be special
