Yea, they definitely did. And competition rules were more sporting than today too.

They were definitely more stock than today's that's for sure, but they were still quite well modified from showroom spec. I guess production cars of old really made better race cars than today's econoboxes or technology ridden performance machines. NASCAR has done well to keep the cars completely free of electronics. A race car should be completely controlled by the driver in every aspect.

I agree, At least the cars were based on real 'showroom' models rather than being custom built from the ground up. I don't doubt that the drivers skills are any different but I think the old school Nascar boys had guts !
