They didn't "take him off". They changed the format. That means they don't do talk shows, no matter how high their ratings are. They only play music now. Nothing else. It had nothing to do with his ratings. It had to do with music = cheap to play, and talk shows = expensive because you have to hire at least: a producer, engineer, radio personality, support staff, etc. With music you just have to hire a cheap DJ and let him play music on loop. Tom was getting paid millions lol.
