@OperationTailGunner While I am an ardent supporter of Israel, I am not sure if I am comfortable giving a small country, no matter how much I like it, the opportunity to drag us into a preemptive war. Our best objective, when it comes to Israel, is to build their ability to defend themselves, and if necessary, support them in a defensive war against their enemies. This "emergency situation" argument is also used way too often, and is always the argument for increasing executive power.
@erentheca I like your comments and understand your point. But I am becoming very concerned for our future. Over the last 10 years, the U.S. has invested around 3 Trillion U.S.dollars, including military aid package to Israel. Now our country is struggling to meet its debts. As of late, there is no member of Congress or even the president himself who is willing to reduce funding to Israel, even by a small amount. Except perhaps for Ron Paul who has no real chance of getting elected.
This is a real serious issue while U.S. citizens face the prospect of having Social Securty cut back or delayed or down the road even eliminated, while full funding to Israel continues. If Israel was say Iraq or Afghanistan, there would be a point at which we would eventually say...O.K. guys, you are on your own now! But we are here if you need us.
If EVERY federal program were cut back by the SAME amount, I would have nothing to bitch about!
@OperationTailGunner I must say, you do have an excellent point. It seems we are doing nothing but throwing a lot of money at the Middle East, Israel especially, and just hoping for stability and security, and sadly, it's not working, and will likely never work. The irony is that, according to the Scientific American, we are only 420 billion dollars (invested in solar energy) away from complete energy independence. That's pretty small compared to the 3 trillion you mentioned.

You forgot about Mel Sembler, RNC Finance Chairman in the 2000 election, primary funding source for Mitt in 2008 and 2012. Founder father of Freedoms Watch (now extict), Coalition leader for the Republican Jewish Coalition with ties to Bejamin Netanyahu's Likud party (Israel). Eric Cantor and a slew of former Bush-Cheney staff are also coalition members. Elect Romney and it will be like dejavu all over again...next war Iran. Israeli casualties...zero...U.S. casualties????
I thought we were going over to Iraq to give them a taste of democracy. What part of Romneys 'enhanced iterrogation' promotes the American way of life? Is it the dogs barking at naked people, or is it the simulated sex acts? The person responsible for those acts at Abu Ghraib is Cofer Black, Blackwater's chairman, and Romneys advisor on security issues. That kind of sickness degrades the perpetrators as well as the internees. It is absolutely not 'traditional American values.' Romney = torture.
In the book of fools called "Satanic Verses" Leve talks about the different levels of demons in Hell. About 7 levels down you have a demon named "Mormo" who is obsessed with the dead. With that said, what do you call followers of Mormo? GO RON PAUL!!
Ron Paul never had anything to lose. The American people are smart enough to recognize a squirel who has no respect for America's military. We need a candidate who will be True Leadership for America's Future. We need a Governor and an Olympic Turnaround Man.
@BraveNoble Ron Paul received more support from America's military than any other candidate. If you want to respect the military, let them protect OUR country; buying UN nation-building with their blood is the worst kind of disrespect I can imagine.
This freaking moron (or is it Mormon?) can lead Massachussets, but can't be the leader of the USA. He is clearly unprepared and his list of advisors reads like the good old boys network. Ha! and he talks about change.
wysiwyg248 is a religious bigot. Thanks for informing the YOUTUBE community of your hate. BTW: Religious Freedom is the first right in the first Amendment to the Constitution. Therefore, you(w..248) are also anti-Constitution.
I am not a bigot, your religion is yours to discuss and keep. It should not be a factor when electing government. When you are 9 Trillions in Red, you need more than an Olympic Turnaround Man. He has been flip flopping since the day od dawn... even Ted Kennedy called him the MULTIPLE CHOICE candidate.
@BraveNoble That's a little nonsensical. The Constitutional Amendment you are quoting regards Federal Government restrictions against religion, it says nothing regarding the free views of private citizens. Any private individual can have any view about any religion, whether positive or negative, and even act on it, and not be anti-Constitutional. If an individual attains Federal office and uses that office to restrict or persecute a religion... that is anti-Constitutional.
Mitt, as the Chief-in-Commander of President of the United States, you would Decalre War threw congress and NOT your attourneys! Take some lessons from Ron Paul and educate yourself on the basic executive branch (that would be you Romby). This just reconfirms my vote to Dr. Ron Paul for the republican nomination.
Oddjob, I was thinking the same thing about that sort of ticket, although I was thinking Ron Paul/Obama...! Why are we forced to pick one side, it's like a football game or somthing. Why not vote for someone with the character and strength as Ron Paul and a VP with the speaking and negotiation skills like Obama. I know it's a wild idea, but hey, I would support it!
Hendrix3d, we are not debating whether or not the President must ask Congress before commanding US troops. The President DOES indeed have that power. But he DOES NOT have the power to DECLARE WAR. This is what we are debating. If the President takes our troops into war without Congressional approval, then it is an illegal war.
So Romney was right - a smart president should always consult with his attorneys to explore the legal ramifications of such a decision, but will always make the decision that will be best for the country.
I wise man, even if he has a law degree from Harvard, as does Mitt, will always consult with counsel before making decisions that will effect America and her people. I like the fact the Mitt is a wise as well as smart man. Romney for President in 2008.
This is actually an intelligent response. Ron Paul isn't familiar with what is known in the legal field as a "political question." The Constitution doesn't say that Congress has to declare war before the President exercises his power to command the armed forces under Article 2. Therefore, it is a "political question" because the President will always say that he doesn't have to wait for Congress, but Congress will always say that he does.
@hendrix3d That doesn't quite ring true. I think you are trying to sidestep the issue. Military aggression, no matter what form it is in, is an act of war. Once we allow undeclared "military action", at what point do we draw a line and say "now it must be a declared war!"? Allowing an issue like this to become unspecific has frequently led to disaster. The intention of the clause was clear, any preemptive military provocation is illegal, unless it follows a declaration of war by the congress.
yes republicans.. i do agree with the spammers vote ron paul. he's alright.. or.. you know.. any democrat. they too respect the constitution. obama/paul ticket? hmmm....
I suppose you guys would rather have an executive descision based on only one mans opinion as a basis for going to war. I think I would rather the president consult with lawyers and anyone and everyone else if going to war is the right thing before sending in the troops. It should be thought out very carefully and should not ever be one mans decision.
@TheCrystalRiver Well, I am American and have the ability to write-in my vote, so my opinion is somewhat legitimate. I mean, I did leave the USA...so I guess I'm an ex-patriot. ANYWAY, hey, it's whatever BRRRO!!!! Also, 3 years ago, when I made that comment, I lived in Texas (the greatest country on earth) and was a supporter of Dr. Paul. Aren't lawyers basically consultants? In today's litigious society, a really good businessman like Mitt would first do his research to determine what ALL his options are before making critical decisions. A brainless knee-jerk buffoon just might go to war prematurely.
Sounds to me like Mitt's response is a tad more feasible than just calling people "brain dead idiots".
@JungleJohn54 A really good business man might do his research before leading his company into some murky waters, but a really good president would consult with his advisers, then ask congress for a declaration of war. The question is not one of intelligence, moral responsibility, wisdom, or courage, the question is regarding authority. Romney is blatantly ignoring the fact that the Executive Branch does not have the authority to lead the United States into war.
Mitt Romney would not be talking to lawyers about whether to invade another country. He would talk to his cabinet and lawyers to work out the best way to work with Congress on the issue.
He may not have given us the red meat that we want but it is a correct answer.
Agreed. It may be a real chore and an irony for many Americans to "move on" from the good ole boy mindframe we've grown tired of in our current presidency - myself included. But it's time to bring in a Washington outsider, a common-sense, business-minded man of true character.
@sLeepPastNooN He gave about the same message in regards to withdrawing from Afghanistan. He would just let his generals determine how much longer we stay. It's amazing to me how he would just pass the buck to individuals who have an invested interest in maintaining a military presence, with the best intentions of course, but which general would ever want to admit failure and advise we just pull out? Or determine how much stability means "mission accomplished"?
Let's WRAP our heads around this:
President Mitt Romney, will be our first Commander-in-Chief that sat out a military draft on a Religious deferment.
As to his 5 sons of military age, Romney says they serve their country "better" by working on his endless political campaigns of the past decade
So when he attacks Iran, religious deferment Mitt will have no problem sending YOUR sons to war, because his sons have better things to do.
