  • Creio que isso seja no México... porra.. em 74 já tinha a laterna fafá ? tenho um 74 e nessa época não havia nenhum com essa laterna .. o volante é diferente, o painel também ... até o fusca do Brasil era atrasado ...

  • I had a red 1974 Super Beetle that I purchased in 1985 making me the 3rd owner. Had it for 5 years and I still dream about driving it to this day. I am going to get antoer one soon. Same year or newer. It was reliable and it was still drivable after I blew a valve on one of the cylinders. $900.00 later with a rebuild, She was up and running again. The downside was the interior smelled like car fumes from the poorly rusted heat exchangers. Its way better and affordable then todays cars.

  • ............(Part 2) "For your protection the 74 VW Sedan has a retractil section in the steering column; Now the cable to open it the trunk is inside the glove box. The turn signals are brighter because its size and design, the tail lights are round, bigger and taller........Ah! And had a new 1600 engine to more efficiency.

Happy 74 with VW!" (Sorry for mistakes during the translation)

  • Thanks for translating. Very useful!!

    :o)

  • Cool it is a 1973 standard beetle (sedan 1200)

  • ????????

  • Bravo! another stupid gringo

  • Thank you very much!

  • is because there were inside your ass!!!

  • Now that´s one of those typical responses when you just don´t know what to say. And yes, you are just another stupid gringo! Did you expected to find a Mc Donald's burguer or maybe some KFC? retarded.

  • Personally I enjoy Europeans.

  • I applaud you for adding these great commercials...but please translate them!

  • I will when I find the time! But I can only translate the German commercials. I don't speak spanish or portuguese!

  • Okay thanks...I am a HUGE fan of the original beetle by the way. The one from the 70s with the weird turn signals and the huge windscreen took the character out of the original car, even though the windscreen would be handy.

  • Volkswagen de Mexico never put into production convertibles, ragtops, sunroofs, 1300 engines or auto-stick transmissions; The headrest seats came in 1980 and the first fuel inyected engine in 1992.

  • The mexican beetle kept the same exterior design of an '64 american beetle until 1969; That was the last year for the 1200 cc engine and the 6 volt system. In 1970 it was upgraded to 1500 and 12 volt system, but the windows still are smaller until 1974 with the introduction of the "new" improvements: Big windows, 1600 engines, big turn signals and rear lenses.

  • Big windows were introduced in 1972, along with a padded dash, thiner chrome moldings, door knob locks and a 90° angle folding rear seat to improve cargo space among other changes. Not only the windows were larger but the whole body was changed to what the VW puebla plant called new "german body" as part of many forthcoming changes for the 73 and 74 models

  • Actually I believe indiodeoro is correct; the Mexican bugs ran a little "behind" those built for the US mkt. Note this one also has the pre-'72 trunklid with the 2 vents instead of 4, as well as the low-back seats with no headrest at all, which were essentially gone from the entire US market by about 1971 since they provided no whiplash protection at all in rearend collisions...like, say when pulling away from a stoplight or onto an onramp...

  • actually the decklid is a 1970 only part and the steering wheel is 72-up and the seats are 67-downwith 73-up tailights and 70-up front turnsignal lights.its a mash up of different year parts to make a complete car....

  • and if I remember correctly, the Euro and US Beetles got the lid release inside the glovebox in '68.

Another odd thing about the Mexican Beetles is they never got the final rear window increase in height that Euro/US got in '72.

  • The Mexican Beetles did get the rear window height increase but not until the late 80's.

  • US and Euro configs can be very different. In England for example you could still get a 1200 and a swing axle long after the US market stopped selling them, and a 1970s Standard beetle "like my 74" with a 1600 and an IRS was unheard of, that was purely Super Beetle stuff. Not available in the old school torsion bar front end models. Years ago I got an English Haynes manual for Beetle and it has configs that would baffle an American bug fan.

  • Ahhhh (the engine hood opens). And it has a new 1600 engine that makes the car answer with a stronger impetus. (The car dissappears and Happy '74 appears) Happy '74 with Volkswagen.

I hope this helps, and if someone can translate the German/Dutch/Swedish ads, please do.

    -Commanderraf

  • (Fade to the steering wheel) For your safety, the 1974 VW Beetle has a collapsable section in the steering column (I hope it's the right concept) (pan to the glovebox). Now, the lever to open the trunk is located in the glovebox (fade to the outside of the car). Now, the turn signals are brighter thanks to its improved size and design (Now, at the back of the car). The tailights are round, bigger and higher.

  • Translation:

Happy 1974! The Volkswagen Sedan (as it was called in Mexico) opens it doors to recieve you confortably with its new items (pan to the inside of the car). It has new, more confortable bucket seats, a new stickshift, closer to your hand. The side panels, seats and tapestry in a fancy black.

  • This is a 1974 VW mexican TV commercial, first aired on November 1973(it starts wishing a happy new year!), featuring the new 1600cc. engine, new wider seats, a smaller stickshift, larger tailights and turn signals, this add was only made for Mexico and not Southamerica as stated, Domestic mexican beetles were not exported at that time. changes on mexican Beetles were one year behind or two of those of the German beetles back then.

  • @LuisManuel666

Thanx for your comment. I ajusted my comment using your information.

    Paul

  • yeah, my '73 has 4 vents. I think this was the year they introduced fuel injection, but this one looked like it had a carb. They moved the air filter too.

  • It's interesting to see the subtle differences that exist among different markets. The engine lid on this '74 has 2 vents, but American cars started having 4 in '72. It's also interesting that this '74 still has low back seats (last year in US was '67). Also different are the non-shock absorber bumpers.

  • I wish there were english subtitles. But besides that I love these commercials! They speak the international language of BUG!
