  • Did those guys have the hatch open with the camera tied on top?

  • Their making a movie about this.

  • The drivers Chi must be mad focused, yo.

  • Rock of The Marne!!!

  • ps4 version ?

  • @dra1212 this is before IEDs were really being made, they were used more widely a few months after we invaded, correct me if i am wrong

  • "It is well that war is so terrible--lest we should grow too fond of it."

    -Robert E. Lee

  • awesome!

  • Isn't dangerous to advance near the center of highway? There could be an IED between the two ways no?

  • BF3

  • @alykh96 They actually based the thunder Run mission off of this footage, by the way. A lot more combat going on in the game obviously, but cool to know.

  • I love how all these marines come here and say that is RUN was done by them. 3ID is Army, let me spell this out: Third Infantry Division of the United States ARMY. We are all on the same team, so please don't discredit those that has earn them. Hooah!

  • @kaox44 Yeah there is some dude named Swede that put this up as a 'Joint' op, which it wasn't.

  • hotdamn! This footage rocks!!!

  • Rock of the Marne! 2-64th AR M1A1 vet

  • @wilbas69 Speed and power! 2-69 ar

  • No sure if it's been mentioned previously...but there's some very interesting books written by people who were in this Thunder Run. One, unsurprisingly, is called 'Thunder Run' by David Zucchino. Recommended if you're interested.

  • 5:32 i seen that mosque everyday in my deployment

  • LISTEN TO MYSTICAL ROUND OUT THE TANK AND WATCH THIS VIDEO AT THE SAME TIME

  • That ute was packed with ammunition and flammables, they lit it up with 7.62x51mm bullets, thats not gonna make it catch fire unless they hit something flammable (which just so happened to be the case when the bullets impacted the tray).

  • F***ing Sexy!

  • great video and great song at the end......

  • This looks like a good way to go work in the morning, anybody selling tanks whole sale? Haha

  • What fucking Oil I havent seen a drop of it at our pumps. This blame Bush thing thats going around the net is just outlandish. Even Demacrats aproved the Invasion and a good part of The U.S population.

Oh the Irony of a Hypicritical Nation.

  • @SPARTAN1T You don't see any oil at a gas station because it's in pipes. But you put it in your car and paid $4 for the privilege. I blame the commander in chief of the armed forces for planning and starting the war. He lied and used scare tactics to get the population, media and the politicians on his side, although if you didn't notice, our current president voted against it. I was always against it. Bush is a murderer who won over cowards and fools. Some of us were neither.

  • lo lthe abrams i hate being in the g seat.....your mind always wonders and your scared shitless usually you have no clue who is gona pick you off with the dragon or the shitty ak with a fake acog or a I.e.d lol i can go on and on all day....and most of the soildiers are scared GIVE THEM RESPECT

shooting a pickup with the coax, PRICELESS

    Hell On Wheels

  • this is a show of force... it has nothing to do with tank on tank warfare.....it's basically telling the enemy .."we can do what we want...when we want"

    Hell On Wheels

  • @trhisdone This was during the push to baghdad and you can clearly see incoming round impacts, enemy armored vehicles and enemy infantry. Its a massive battle

  • m1a1 Abrams.

    More metal than you

  • Love Sympathy at the end

  • I remember all this. I'm not sure but I think that was our tank in front. I remember a truck they thought had an IED inside and the tank behind us took it out. I was in Bravo company 2/69. I would love a confirmation from the publisher of this video

  • @whiteboyjames69 this is a co 1-64 and we were the tip of the spear

  • OMG it must of stunk after a few hours with all the fedadin & Haji's burning & bloating in the sun.

    Good panzer tactics US.

Shame the war happened but I support the troops, they don't ask to be used.

  • @infokemp thats not even panzer tactics. most of what ive read said something like this had never been done before.

  • Too bad the Iraqi's were so stupid. They could've done a lot of damage if they were keen and just set up demolition ambushes with EFP's and possibly other weapons like local cluster bombs or mini RKG-3 local MLRS type area effect weapons. Plus, whats the point of fighting without any atgm's? Stupid.

  • هسة انت تحجي خونة وخوة هوة انت امنين مو عراقي لولا

  • aww texasvanity civilians is that what those rpgs, gunfire, and burning military vehicles. yes colateral damage happens it has in every war known to man that is the nature of the beast. i was over ther 3 times we never purposely murdered anyone. we fight when the fight comes to us. give our troops some respect i would like to see u hippies react if ever shot at. and if u dont like it you can geeet out.

  • which war are you refferring to? direct that comment toward one of the 10000 guys that showed up there that day, the placce was nearly deserted once we got inside. it was a mass surrender, half of them surrenderred because they wanted food. when the city shut down because they knew we were coming, the supply lines to the troops shut down too, most of the soldiers hadnt had what we'd call a meal in over 3 weeks! check your facts there jordan

  • Let the big dogs eat/

  • Song at 7:20 is 'Sympathy For The Devil', Rolling Stones. Thanks for posting this...showing us civvies what it's really like over in that God-forsaken sandbox.

  • Yes, from Get yer Ya ya's out! Classic rock from 1969, live at Madison Square Gardens. Nice!

  • AHH.. Good times.

  • thousands of raghead terrorists were wasted in this thunder run

  • plz, somebody who may tell me whats is the name of the song that we can hear in the video.. at 07:20 minutes

  • shoot'em all. If civilians cant hear what is coming from the distance or are to blind to see what lays ahead, they deserve to be wiped out: that many less retards in the future.

  • you fuckwit

  • that isnt how you win COIN, jackass

  • it wasn't a COIN fight at that point, they were fighting an army

  • damn that truck got owned by the tank

  • Deciding to drive on a highway that has invading tanks driving down it firing their weapons is a clear case of natural selection.

  • please allow me to introduce myself, i'm a man, of wealth and taste. hats off to you guys for dealing with this BS head on.

  • WILD BUNCH!

  • Audie would be proud! the one and only 3rd division!

  • OK we all know Hodge is stupid but rolling up 20meters next to a column of Abrams in a pick up? With hostile intent? Give me a break dude the clip speaks for itself.

  • 1/64 ARMOR ALPHA COMPANY!!

  • I still cant after a year explain why you guys lit up the truck? at 5.55 I have been doing this for 22.5 years and did op's with the 1-64 and 4-64.

I am not pissed at you guys but am fucking pissed at you leadership for giving you such a weak ROE, we did pay the price a few years later. Most LN's I dealt with had an agenda leading back to collateral damage during OIF 01..my opinion....god bless

  • Pretty obvious you weren't there if you don't understand such a simple concept. The truck was undoubtedly loaded with insurgent fighters. It's called a technical, and they were all over the place in Baghdad. Weak ROE my ass. You have to kill them if they're trying to kill you. Simple as that.

  • Well no, technically, that's not a technical, that's a pickup truck. And could you please describe how the people in it could possibly be described as "insurgents"? Look the word up in a dictionary, its meaning is actually not "iraqi with a gun".

Since I wasn't there, I will not speculate on if there were fighters in the truck or not.

  • You are speculating. I can tell by the way you word things. And an insurgent is what these Fedayeen fighters are labeled as, so I'll call them insurgents if i goddamn feel like it.

Case and point: the truck is driving onto a road packed with Abrams tanks and is veering towards them. It is driving at high speed and, in any case, it's best to blow it to hell just to be safe.

Furthermore, a technical is a civilian truck with armed militants in it. That probably IS a technical.

  • Well that's where we disagree, my point is that insurgent means "rebel" or "opposing authority", not just "irregular fighter", although alot of media use that word with the latter meaning nowadays. Doesn't make them right, though.

And a technical isn't just a pickup truck with people with a certain sympathy in it, it's an improvised weapons platform built on a pickup truck, mounting for instance machine guns, recoilless rifles or anti-aircraft guns.

  • I was in the 3rd ID when we spearheaded the attack to Baghdad. In case you people havent heard or read it anywhere, Iraqis were taking off their uniforms and getting into civilian cars or trucks and disguising themselves as civilians. As they closed in on our positions they would start shooting at us with RPG's, Ak-47's and anything they had. It is easy for somebody that is sitting at home without a worry to criticize a split second life and death situation.

  • @elduke78 I'm just glad you guys made it home, thanks brothers for being there for us.

  • It is you who doesn't understand the relevant concept: when you're a soldier and a truck wildly swerves onto the road, you have a choice to make. You can either risk that thing exploding in your face or shooting at you, or you can destroy it. Any soldier-any soldier in the world-would have done the same. It is good that it was destroyed because it was a very serious threat. Don't make the mistake of thinking these soldiers are unprofessional.

  • You still don't understand. If there is a potential threat-YOU KILL IT. That's just the way it works in the REAL world. In war there is never time to make detailed analyses of the potential threats. That tank commander had a split-second decision to make, and considering that the truck was in a place no civilian would EVER go, he had to destroy it. It may have been civilians, but it may have been a perfectly legit target. The latter is more likely.

  • @RichardTaylor1800 you are absolutely right but i think this was just a guy at the wrong time at the wrong place

  • I was in the 3rd ID when we spearheaded the attack to Baghdad. In case you people havent heard or read it anywhere, Iraqis were taking off their uniforms and getting into civilian cars or trucks and disguising

  • You obviously have no idea what goes down in war. Its a dirty business. Kill or be killed. All this video shows is the American army is well prepared for conventional warfare. The uncoventional crap really threw them for a loop though obviously.

  • Read the book also..another good book about armored warfare in OIF is Heavy Metal a tank companys battle to baghdad.

  • Is there a way to get a high quality version of this video?

  • I'm also reading it now , it is a good book. What chapter are you in?

  • Comment removed

  • insult to humanity

  • Fuck off!

  • @WillBePilot let me speak slowly for you, the democrats voted for the war too, they believed they had WMD's. So did most of the world. You really are a moron. President Bush wasn't a king, he didn't do it alone. Wake up or put your head back in the sand you idiot

  • Delta Dawgs! Thunder run I and II.

  • Was this the first or second thunder run? Anyone know?

  • first

  • usa owned and gave a major ass kicking to the the saddam era military in the 2 thunder runs,i heard at least 2,000 plus saddam followers were wacked dead in this run

  • american armor!!!!!!!!

  • at 5:55 why did they destroy the truck?

  • Because it might well have been a suicide car. Or a guy trying to fire his RPG into the rear grill...

  • he waz behing the M1 and the rear is the weakest spot so they wernt taking any chances with the cars

  • Im so... embarrased that im in OIF 08-09. To know that im an Infantryman and ive been here 3 months and havent fired a round makes me sick. Im so jelouse of these guys. My convoys go on the same streets as im watching on this vid and im embarrased to see my weapon at max elevation and bulshit SOP's like that... Good job guys.

  • He's infantry. His job is to kill.

  • It's a bit hard to do that when they are firing RPGs and Ak-47s at them.

  • @WillBePilot why don't you go over there and try. then say something

  • Who you with ? I am here as well.

  • To be in baghdad and have not fired a round in 3 months is a very good thing...a very good thing indeed...

  • at 4:52, you can hear the his of an RPG going by, i was in Bravo Co. 1-64 in OIF III, good stuff

  • i was in A-3-15

  • who's this? I was in 2nd platoon!

  • I graduated OSUT for tankers a couple of weeks ago and 1 of my drills was the driver for the second tank into Baghdad.

GJ to all who had anything to do with thunder run, and much respect to all services fighting for the US of A.

  • i know one of the guys in the bradly in front of the camera vehical...he going back for another tour in 10 days

  • if you wanna here what 7.62 sounds like just missing your head (4:52)

  • well done give these motherf++++ what they deserve! good hunt, guys!

  • Outstanding video! I was a tanker in Desert Storm and this brought back memories! Good job tankers!

  • So how many Iraqi tanks did you destroy and what type of tanker were you?

  • this is cool. I want to be a tanker, is it a possiblitiy to get a waiver? im 6'3. This is a cool vid cus it shows what tanks REALLY do. The coax is the main weapon in reality.

  • yes, im 6'5 and command these bad boys

  • uhh nice! but my profile has better stuff! chck it out! 6

  • working hard or hardly workin

  • People should not that some stupid Marine posted this video claiming that this was the Marines doing this. Typical of the Marines. They are trying to brainwash the American public into thinking that they do all of the fighting and that the Army never fought any major engagements. And the sad part is, that the public swallows it all hook line and sinker. This is a disgrace. Before you know it, the Marines will be claiming that it was them that landed at Normandy in 1944 and not the US Army.

  • Desert Rogues WELL PUT! fuckin pussys dont dare say shit to our faces lest they become a statistic

  • американские вторжение насильно устанавливают свою демократию в других странах (америка империя зла)

  • One more thing, you know I think its funny all these people making their smart mouthed comments on here, but not once has anyone had the nerve to come up to my face and say any of these things. Its because they know good and well that theyed get their dick knocked in the dirt. So their 8 dollar an hour obese pizza delivery boy ass sits masked behind the safety of the internet where they can be a black belt with 6 pack abs just like the song says and spew their ignorant crap.

  • those days man when I was there wer fun fun but not fun enough now I remember it in my nightmares

  • did the third take route tampa all the way up

  • I have put some crappy comments about this clip and admit it was out of line we lost 4 good men from our co.

That being said I spent 13 mos. operating out of Rustamiyah and we did op's with 4-64 and 1-64 armor and I still think smoking that "technical truck" was messed up. Alot of L/N's I dealt with were still pissed about the 2003 invasion, just my opinion I was not there in 03 my tour was 05-07.

I wear the 3rd combat patch with pride.

  • Now that is a target rich enviroment...

  • I thought the thunder run was good and very bad.

GOOD because it tested Saddamns defences of baghdad and gave the military the know how to quickly take baghdad.

BAD because you clearly had a 'shoot at anything and everything' policy which doesnt work when the Baghdad residents through you were liberating them.

Word has it that you boys went through a Shia anti-saddam neighbourhood and when the locals went to join you on their pickups..u blew them away..

    bad move bad move

  • Word has it? Meaning you heard it second hand and were not there? Then you need to keep your mouth shut. My name is Burt and I drove Sfc. Olsons tank. I was in Alpha Co. right up in the front and I saw it all through my periscopes. Those technicals were full of armed men, and if they had been "wanting to join us" as you say then it was THEY who made the bad move by rolling up on us at high speed in every appearance of attempting an attack on the column. They were stupid,on crack,or something.

  • yeah, it's a shame Booker didn't pull through, RIP mate...

  • Who is the guy that put this on here? I am SGT Shawn Sullivan from HHC 1/64. I was with Shipley and Schafer when the got hurt on this run! 1SG Mercado was my TC RIP Booker, you are constantly on my mind and in my prayers.

  • Excellent video, i've been looking for this one for a while

  • Major William Glaser of 2BCT-3ID, come home soon. We respect you.

  • I met the commander of this battallion while on funeral detail yesterday. He is now with the 1st Cavalry Division and deployed with us for our recent 15 month tour. I recognize all these roads... so damn different. But the man is a Major now, highly professional, very knowledgeable and shared a lot of stories of the Thunder Runs. I wish I was older and had been able to take part in this with him. Soldiers like us who have been deployed but weren't part of the invasion wish we were on his level.

  • I must admit that this is one of the most inspirational videos I've ever seen. I watched this for the first time in AOBC in '04 and I was like 'wow'. Ironicly the area this film was shot at was my unit's AO the last deployment. Also, Ironicly, we were RIP'ed by the unit that was in this film. Again, a great video and I'm sure it will be used for years to come to train tankers.

  • R.I.P. SSG Booker You are missed. Thinking of all the 3ID soldiers on their 3rd tour now. Keep your head down, and come home safe.

  • it is not funny.

  • TUSKERS! (4-64)...LOL

  • Keep the Fight in Iraq. Via the Desert Rogues'

  • You did not see what happen before the Truck Came into view. Our ROE were different then so SSG Bull what did you do? And the insurgency was planned prior to the U.S. entering Iraq. Ooooh! you breed the insurgency. Keep the Fight in the Middle East not U.S. soil.

  • yeah your next tour sucked didnt dumbfuck

  • ragheadz got their asses handed to them by our abrams tanks.fuck allah

  • o the memories- we were c co 3-15 in at the time, the first infantry company in baghdad. read about us in the book. now were a co 1-64 ar

  • USA!!

  • Love seeing that 120 going off...HOOAH!

  • TANKERS LEAD THE WAY!! HOOAH!!

  • thousands of ragheadz were wacked dead in this successfull thunder run

  • 800-1000

  • i recommend everyone to read the book "thunder run" by david zucchino.
