That's great! My parents gave me one of these for Christmas in 1976... watching this assembly video makes me wonder why my father cursed building the thing. Looks pretty simple from here! ;-)
the original green machine ads i saw in the '70's did *not* have a steering wheel. two levers, that's it. I thought it was cool as hell, and the two levers were why i wanted one instead of the big wheel. I never actually saw one up close, much less in the original box. Thanks for posting, because now i know that the only thing keeping me form melted plastic road rash of doom was teh block of wood that held the thing together. were the things actually, you know, safe(ish)? =-)
I had one around 76 or 77. These things were the Lamborghini's of all the big wheels. Glad I ran across this video, me my brother and sister had a blast with it.
@Sparxe, Me too. I wanted one too and didn't get one either because I was a girl. But now that I have seen this video, I may have been too small and my legs not long enough to ride one and maybe thats why my parents couldn't get me one.
i was born in 72 n got one early on that is a green machine i had almost ident one and no incarnation of the green machine ever had a steering wheel . its got the paper work n everything with pics lol saying green machine but you gotta say no lmao there were a few versions of the green machine the pat was for the control mech etc so there was nt knockoffs just whoever they leased to to make the green mach
@ttamfj It was most definitely a Green Machine dude. I remember getting it that Christmas, when I was 5, and I still have pictures. I got it in 1973 and this commercial is from 1977. The steering apparatus had changed by then.
I remember my little nephew getting one for Christmas in the late 70's, I tugged him down the hill in front of his house with my sister's 3 speed bike. I did a U turn and so did he, until the change in direction yanked the bike out from under me, I crashed to the street while he slammed back first into the driver side door of my mom's parked Caddy. His eyes were as wide as saucers, his mouth wide open. LOL I never forgot that.day, I went out and bought myself one of the newer ones and ride it
The 77-78 model green machine was much better than the modern type. The rear axle is wider on the original which meant they handled better into a 360 turn. I rode a modern one about 5 years ago just for old times sake and it flipped over when I did a 360.
I had a Green Machine when I was 7-8 years old. My brother had a Hot Seat and we would race each other. Then he tied my GM on the back of his bike a few years later and rounded a turn. the seat came off with me on it! what memories...
I sure miss the green machine had one as a kid rode it tell the front wheel was ground down then took the back wheels off my Big Wheel and put them on front of the machine used a rope tied to my Schwinn 3 speed bike to pull neighbor kids really fast on newly paved streets.......
Oh, this was fantastic to see, I could not stop laughing..thinking of all those Christmases my parents were cursing at 2 in the morning to put things like this together!
Made in the U.S.A.? I'm surprised on the design though now that all products are made in China. I wonder how much was it back then and how much is it as of today?
great video, if you need any help getting your video/channel exposed i use a site called mytubeviews . com It has helped 5 of my videos get ranked on the first pages.

@ghostdancer2302 The Green machine did not come out until 1975.

@ghostdancer2302 Yep, it sure wasn't a Green Machine. You probably had a Big Wheel or a knockoff.

@adrianvgomez they actually made this stuff here before corporate greed fucked everything up.

Went through two of these when I was a kid; split the front wheel clean in half on both of them. Now they have pneumatic tires up front!

I recall them honeycomb patterned 'soccer ball' rims (similar to the mid-70s Pontiac Trans Ams and GTOs)...

Great video.
I love the $19.99 price tag. When I bought the re-issued Green Machine in 2002, it was $129.99! Luckily, the weight limit was now 180 pounds.
