  • i would piiiisssssssss myself so hard...if i accidently ran into one while swimming

  • cool my son love it!

  • you see this is what i like about the british, they dont hunt shark like japan and stuff they have wildlife programs and stuff to ban them from doin that

  • Fantastic video and great to see these magnificent creatures highlighted here. However, less impressed with the soundtrack, or with Great white shark lurking behind interviewees actually talking about the perfectly harmless Basking shark.

Also, it's a shame no mention is made of Basking shark being quite common in some areas of the Hebrides – see "heraldscotland", "experts, basking, shark"

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Look at the mouth on that thing ! With its mouth open it closely resembles my mother-in-law !

  • @lladnar71

    lol

  • The Music lool

  • :L i would still shit myself if i even seen that even though it isnt dangerous

  • Great video but out of date - they don't stay in our waters all year round, they migrate in the winter.

  • nomnomnom??

  • this video is great and we learn how sharks can be helpful and not the terrifying killers everybody else has known them 2 be.

  • Hey, I'm from Norway. =3

My dad once told me, when he was a kid they found a big dead Basking Shark floating on the surface of the water (as shark's floats when they're dead).

They drove over to it and they could STAND on it, that's how big it were! But my dad scraped his skin on the shark's skin and started the bleed, so it were quit sharp for being dead.

In Norway we call the Basking Shark for "Brugde".

  • Det bra!

  • This is truly an amazing creature. Who knew a shark's mouth could open so wide and be completely harmless? I mean, sure, it might swallow you on accident, but you can't blame it. I really hope that all of these amazing sharks can keep on living and not become extinct. They've lived so long and prospered since the dinosaur ages and they are creating history even I wouldn't mind reading in a history book. All of these amazing sharks and sea creatures amaze me, especially this one.

  • @PewpcicIe

i think u should make a video about sharks and how helpful they can be and then the sharks have a better chance 2 survive and not go extinct and then they will prosper for much longer than the time of dinosaurs so then our great-great grand children can enjoy the facinating creatures known as sharks

  • @PewpcicIe

The Basking sharks are currently in the state of "Vulnerable species". We all know what to do, right?

  • @PewpcicIe I don't think it could swallow you, since it's a filter feeder.

OH MY!! 2 years? lol never mind!

  • They dont have any teeth so the most harm they could do is suck you up. xD

  • I just saw one of thes around the Hudson Canyon about 80 miles off Belmar, NJ.

  • have they ever tried to filter a person, maybe there's a blind one

  • Basking sharks are so fascinating, they look so "prehistorically old" and they're harmless. But I don't want to meet one underwater, because maybe he'd choke on me accidentally ;o)

  • I'm so scared of them. One look from a picture and I think it's going to eat me. I mean really, come on! Can you imagine swimming in the sea having fun/diving and then you turn around to see some big ass shark swimming your way with it's big ass mouth open. O.O.. Holy hell!!! I know they don't actually eat people, but you never know if it gets you accidentally.

    It's scary as hell. XD

  • If I would encounter such a shark it would propably scare the bejesus outta me..

  • GET IN MAH BELLY!

  • If it's so harmless, why is the background music so ominous? XD

Seriously though, they're amazing creatures. Almost majestic, in a way. But I still wouldn't want to be swimming in the sea and then turn around and see that huge mouth heading in my direction. Sounds like a good recipe for a heart attack!

  • scary. I will have a heart attack seeing a basking sharks in the water. This is why I'm scared of the ocean.

  • hahaha!!! me too... but I am so amazed by them....

btw, reply to my own comment: whale shark is number one.... then comes the basking shark!!!

  • Isnt the Great white the largest shark?

  • no, the whale shark is

  • no that's not true, because they are both no sharks, they are fishes. The whale shark is the biggest fish on earth.

  • Comment removed

  • If its harmless then why doesn't anyone curl up in its mouth and go for a joy ride?

  • that would be the most intresting/funniest thing ever!

  • i would pay to see that :)

  • It's probably not THAT harmless lol

  • half whale half shark..

  • inst that supose to be a whale shark

  • no.

  • if tht thing went under my little canno i would suicide!!!!!!

  • awesome

  • nice vid

  • the basking shark, it is a big hit man.

  • I knew that much. And, as the video says, a basking shark is NOT actually a shark, but a bony fish.

  • WHoops! I think I switched those two around. x.x

  • Konrad, whale sharks are cartilaginous too. The difference between them and Basking sharks is the size, and the markings. They both have cartilage. No shark on earth has a bony skeleton. Check up with any marine biologist (like me!)

  • The difference between a whale shark and a basking shark is that a whale shark isn't a shark, it is a bony fish, unlike basking shark which is cartilaginous fish.

  • A whale shark is definately a shark.

  • Fuck, i would be scared.

  • are they like the whale shark?

  • The backround music realy fits in to the video.

  • Omg nice!
