you see this is what i like about the british, they dont hunt shark like japan and stuff they have wildlife programs and stuff to ban them from doin that
Fantastic video and great to see these magnificent creatures highlighted here. However, less impressed with the soundtrack, or with Great white shark lurking behind interviewees actually talking about the perfectly harmless Basking shark.
Also, it's a shame no mention is made of Basking shark being quite common in some areas of the Hebrides – see "heraldscotland", "experts, basking, shark"
My dad once told me, when he was a kid they found a big dead Basking Shark floating on the surface of the water (as shark's floats when they're dead).
They drove over to it and they could STAND on it, that's how big it were! But my dad scraped his skin on the shark's skin and started the bleed, so it were quit sharp for being dead.
This is truly an amazing creature. Who knew a shark's mouth could open so wide and be completely harmless? I mean, sure, it might swallow you on accident, but you can't blame it. I really hope that all of these amazing sharks can keep on living and not become extinct. They've lived so long and prospered since the dinosaur ages and they are creating history even I wouldn't mind reading in a history book. All of these amazing sharks and sea creatures amaze me, especially this one.
i think u should make a video about sharks and how helpful they can be and then the sharks have a better chance 2 survive and not go extinct and then they will prosper for much longer than the time of dinosaurs so then our great-great grand children can enjoy the facinating creatures known as sharks
Basking sharks are so fascinating, they look so "prehistorically old" and they're harmless. But I don't want to meet one underwater, because maybe he'd choke on me accidentally ;o)
I'm so scared of them. One look from a picture and I think it's going to eat me. I mean really, come on! Can you imagine swimming in the sea having fun/diving and then you turn around to see some big ass shark swimming your way with it's big ass mouth open. O.O.. Holy hell!!! I know they don't actually eat people, but you never know if it gets you accidentally.
If it's so harmless, why is the background music so ominous? XD
Seriously though, they're amazing creatures. Almost majestic, in a way. But I still wouldn't want to be swimming in the sea and then turn around and see that huge mouth heading in my direction. Sounds like a good recipe for a heart attack!
Konrad, whale sharks are cartilaginous too. The difference between them and Basking sharks is the size, and the markings. They both have cartilage. No shark on earth has a bony skeleton. Check up with any marine biologist (like me!)
The difference between a whale shark and a basking shark is that a whale shark isn't a shark, it is a bony fish, unlike basking shark which is cartilaginous fish.
its just like what i have a big mouth get over it

Great video but out of date - they don't stay in our waters all year round, they migrate in the winter.

Hey, I'm from Norway. =3

In Norway we call the Basking Shark for "Brugde".

The Basking sharks are currently in the state of "Vulnerable species". We all know what to do, right?
SweetMatheson 10 months ago
@PewpcicIe I don't think it could swallow you, since it's a filter feeder.
OH MY!! 2 years? lol never mind!
