  • You're getting a 10 mbps upload speed because the router that verizon provides is bad on the wireless end. Either connect your laptop with an ethernet cable or buy another router.

  • GETTING FIOS TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What's so special about FiOS. I have cable and if FiOS ever came to my area, I don't think I'd even switch. I am happy with my download nad upload speeds. It's not like I download movies. All I do is music, facebook and that's pretty much it.

  • @reddawn5297 There's nothing wrong with that at all. As long as your Cable connection suits your needs and it runs as it should, then it's fine. In my case, I'm a heavier user so I prefer to get higher end connections. Still waiting for FiOS to show up here. I can get 50/5 Cable here but the upload is a bit lacking for my liking.

  • i have fios and i'm in Baltimore, I get 30/30 on a 20/5 connection somehow

  • @naknak95 Verizon is either overprovisioning you that much or they gave you a speed boost. You might be on a different package than what you say you are on. 30/30 would sound like the 35Mbps package, which with TV, runs at 42Mbps/36Mbps.

  • i got verizon enhanced dsl and im pushin about 10mbps down 2 up.

  • @MrUntouchable2010 Wish I could even get the 10-15Mbps provisioning on the DSL here to hold me over until FiOS shows up. Verizon won't give anything more than 3Mbps even though my line can do 5Mbps.

  • @SGCSmith6612 I got fios to have faster internet in mw3 would this be good for gaming, streaming neflix, and downloading content in ps3?

  • @MrBigbob06 It's awesome for everything you're wanting to do. Just be aware with games and how well their netcode is created. Call of Duty hasn't exactly been known to have the best of netcode for fast connections :\

  • @SGCSmith6612 what if i put the router right next to my system would it go faster and also, people say fios isnt that good and its slow but i talked to the customer sevice person and they said it would blow me away what do you think?

  • @MrBigbob06 From personal experience it is the fastest thing out there. Being a person of technical background, I can also back that up. If you're looking for it to be as fast as possible, avoid using Wireless, especially in close proximity to the router and stick to Ethernet.

Oh, and I suggest using DNS Servers other than Verizon's servers. Use Google DNS or OpenDNS. Much better resolvers :)

  • @SGCSmith6612 thanks, what if lets say im in A match in Call of duty and while im playing someone is using the internet what would happen

  • @MrBigbob06 Not a whole not. You shouldn't even notice them being on. If they are, however running P2P programs or uploading huge sums of data, you will probably notice it a little bit. QoS can be used to prioritize the gaming traffic in that case but it should be fast enough to tackle any load without disrupting anything.

  • @SGCSmith6612 ok, im getting fios oct 3 for the internet router is it moveable?

  • @MrBigbob06 The router is most certainly movable and you can move it to any location where you have Ethernet or Coax connections. The ONT they install (the device that turns the Fiber signal into copper-based services) is not movable, however.

  • @SGCSmith6612 OK YES thanks youve been very helpful! thats is im subscribeing

  • @MrBigbob06 today oct 3 how u like it im getting mine installed tomorrow!!!

  • @eLiTezv1 !!!!!!!!!1 its f en fast bro man i can download 1097 mb in 5 minutes!!!! itd awsome it 4 hours to install it but it was TOTALLY WORTH IT its 65$ a month but its worth it!!!!!!!!!!! trust me bro youll love it!!!

  • @MrBigbob06 yea i gotta wait til thursday now cuz we need to move stuff out our garage cus its blocking the ports there customer service sucks though they should of made sure everything was straight not assume we know what there gonna do always something but i know their products are good im getting the 25mbps/25mbps installed thursday.

  • @eLiTezv1 cool it will take about 5 hours bit its tottally worth it bro 65$ a month they need to install 4 boxes anh hook up a cable to your power line, for what speific reason are you getting fios do you have ps3 xbox netflix???

  • @SGCSmith6612 thanks, what if lets say im in A match in Call of duty and while im playing someone is using the internet what would happen

  • Never... EVER... think about getting clear. It only gives me like 0.6Mbps at most.

  • @ObeyTehSystem OH MY GOD I KNOW! We just canceled those shit fuckers, it was terrible. Right now were on the 12/800 uverse internet which is doing a decent job, only getting about half of what they promise though on the download. SOOO much better than Clear though.

  • @ObeyTehSystem lol my clear hotspot gives me 10 mbps

  • @ObeyTehSystem Exactly...Was good when came out but now clear cant barely handle netflix streaming

  • Comment removed

  • how well does this work for online games?

  • @SpartanKitteh0659 Works very nice. Hosting games on it is great too thanks to the upload speed.

  • @SGCSmith6612 So say I was on GTA IV and I wanted to join a match that has over 10 players, I would join it no problem?

  • @SpartanKitteh0659 You wouldn't have a problem. The problem you'd come across would lay with the person hosting the game if their connection is incapable of handing the players.

  • @SGCSmith6612 Ok, thanks for the info :)

  • @SGCSmith6612 Ok, thanks for the info :)

  • UPLOAD A VIDEO IN SECONDS BITCH

  • WELL the upload speed and download speed is incorrect because that server u tested was 300 miles away so upload speed was probably 30 mbps and download speed was 35 mbps(mega bits)

  • @sourcemodscripter Distance to the server shouldn't matter a whole lot on a properly tuned computer. My computer is tuned to be able to achieve 100Mbps over thousands of miles, and it does so automatically when needed. The lower than normal result is first of all due to speedtest site not being the best place to test at, and second of all I was also on a Wireless G link. I was fortunate enough to be able to sustain speeds near the 25Mbps mark, but at that point it's pretty hard to maintain that.

  • @sourcemodscripter It is worthwhile to note that the line IS a 25Mbps/25Mbps line, however if I were to plug in to Ethernet, since the owner of the line has TV service recently their line has been seen running at 32Mbps/26Mbps. If they had the higher 35Mbps/35Mbps package, they would pull 43Mbps/37Mbps since Verizon adds "fluff" to the connection. It's unfortunate though that in order to use Ethernet, I have to get a cable into an awkward location due to their router location.

  • @SGCSmith6612 yea that is true... I wish i had that connection since i host game servers well i host 1 game server but i had to buy/rent the rest because my internet sucks(2-3 up/ 16-30 down(megabits))

  • @sourcemodscripter I'd love to host from my home too. The 384kbps upload on the DSL doesn't get me very far. We frequently max our upload out so gaming during the night time is very painful for me. Lag spikes and 900 ping on and off all throughout the night even with QoS set up. I do have a server I run game servers on though.

  • i have time warner cable and i get around 89.5 kbps download and around 1mbps upload! i thought it was supposed to be backwards!!!! ugggggh i am so tired of this SHIT internet speed! i am changing tomorrow!

  • My cable is faster than that. and i only pay 30 bucks a month for it. i don't get why people think fios is so great. im not bad mouthing it i honestly don't get it. i live in a fioscommunity. they came to My door to try to sell me fios. they told me to get the speeds i was getting over cable i would have to pay 114 bucks a month. thats internet only. i am getting 35 mbps and cable with hd channels and telephone all of it for 60 a month. so why is fios better? i fail to see how its better.

  • @MrGizmo757 oooooooooh what do you have?

  • @skybabylon1 Cox

  • In South korea where they have the fastest internet in the world they are planning on getting speeds that can reach 1gbps. There internet is also far cheaper than ours.

  • i have time warner cable and its the same speed for 29.99

  • i have 256kb speed, Download 24kb & Upload 11kb, it takes 20min to watch this video. ping 400~600 and only 7GB of download every month. all of this and we are almost 2011..dam !

  • Fair and balanced my ass

  • i get 30 mbps download and 19 mbps upload on comcast, its awesome and half the price of what verizon is charging

  • @UncleBodyguard671 Great to hear there's some competition going on :)

  • @UncleBodyguard671 im getting 150mb with my version fios

  • @UncleBodyguard671 Wait i want 19 mbps upload speed on comcast? I only got 6 -__-

  • @UncleBodyguard671 bullshit i have comcast and i get fucking 2 megs upload for the same price, comcast is shit.

  • @UncleBodyguard671 19mbps up on comcast? Most of their elite plans only offer 5mbps, not doubting you, just curious to know where you located at?

  • @dannielpreto silverdale,wa they say im capped at 5 for upload but even comcast themselves came to my house ran their test and they cant even figure out why im getting so much, and for download im supposed to be capped at 12 but im getting 20 to 30 mbps... go figure, i guess its good for me in the end since im only paying for the 12 down

  • How do I get my upload speed that fast?

  • @Louie92801

Your upload speed will not be that fast as I assume you are on cable internet, which is asymmetric. They have Symmetric types of internet which has equal upload/download. However ISP's usually prefer Asymmetric because you download much more than you upload.

  • @Louie92801 Get a package or an ISP that offers such an upload speed of course :) There is no magical solution to getting more bandwidth.

  • @SGCSmith6612 LOl I know dude

  • That web site lies about internet connection speed. LOL it said my 8 Mbps internet is 15 Mbps lol yeah right lol

  • @Louie92801

15mbps is what your ISP tells you. That is your theoretical max speed. Typically you will never see speeds close to that, as it is just a number to sell to people. Go download a file and you will see roughly 1MB/s download speed (8mbps). If you see 1.9 MB/s then you will be getting about 15mbps.

  • @MX3R43 I understand how it works bro thaxs for the info though. For Example yes it says 8Mbps but that only mean i can download at 800Kbs its not really Mbps its really just a Kbs. For exampole 15Mbps is about 1.5Mbps.

  • @Louie92801

there are 8 bits in a byte.

    8kb/s = 1KB/s.

    8Mb/s = 1MB/s

    15Mb/s = 1.875 MB/s

  • I've wanted to get FiOS for a long time but unfortunately it's still not available in my area =( may i ask which state do you live in?

  • @slee116 New York.

  • @SGCSmith6612 im pretty sure new york is a city

  • @fuadali16 It's both referred to as a city and a state. Of course, New York, New York is more well known ;)

  • its in Megabits, not bytes figure out the difference

  • @dan0258520 If that was towards me, I use "Mbps" for megabits. MB/s I use for Megabytes. If it were towards the comments, then thanks :D

  • i got verizon wireless... i barly get 1mb

  • @drakesajin Can't expect too much out of an EV-DO connection I suppose. That speed should increase once LTE arrives :)

  • do you have to use the router they give you for the fios internet to be fsat or can you use any router???

  • @onewaysk8krew It really depends. You can hook your own router up to the Verizon-provided routers, and bridge them if it's supported (don't think it is supported by the Westell units yet). You can also get your Data connection from the ONT hooked up through Ethernet instead of via MoCa Coax so that you can get your own router as the primary router. You'll need to call the FSC or visit the Verizon Direct forum on DSLReports to get that ability activated though. It's free however.

  • @onewaysk8krew Just take note, due to how FiOS is you won't be using anything older than 4 years unless the router was classified as a gaming router at the time, which may still cut it or if you're using a PC as a router. Those old/cheap routers simply don't have the horse power to handle the speeds or the connections. Newer routers should all handle FiOS speeds, and the one provided by Verizon has a dual-core 64-bit CPU running at 500Mhz, so that can take a beating as well.

  • ...Canada Drooling....Confused?! ....................So Fast!!!..... I like everything 'Except the Fox "News" ,...You don't seriously believe most of that Shit ? Do you?... Watch PBS or Charlie Rose or the BBC , You can't tell how the Broadcaster Votes and that's how NEWS should be , Not Filtered and with Opinion ,LIKE FOX...

  • How much ? how many GB do you get?...

  • Verizon's FiOS for 25Mbps/25Mbps is $65 a month, but is much cheaper if you bundle it with other services such as the FiOS TV and FiOS Phone/Digital Voice.

The bandwidth usage for both download and upload is Unlimited. There's no caps. All ports are unblocked including Port 80 except for Port 25 I believe (blocked it to cut down on spam, only to residential accounts). No throttles or other shady things either. Upload is same speed as download.

  • I forgot to add that FiOS is Fiber all the way to your home. Once it reaches your home, it goes to a device called an ONT which is located Inside of your home, where it either goes to Coax (MoCa) for TV and to the router or where it can go to Ethernet for Data, Coax for video. It's none of that Fiber to the Curb crap that Canadian ISPs do and claim it's Fiber when really it's DSL or DOCSIS 3.0 cable in disguise. This is full blown Fiber to your Home.

  • It's getting better here,FINALLY ,Most high speed plans have caps & throttling (The Creative people get around the throttling) But Major cities like Guelph (100k people) still charge 75$+ a month for 2mb DSL...

  • That's good. It's still a bummer to see what you guys have to go through. $75 a month would get me a 3Mbps/768kbps BUSINESS CLASS connection for DSL with a Static IP. By the way, if you saw the Stop the Cap site in this video, you should go check it out. Great site on issues such as Overcharging and such.

  • Canada has 2 Providers , Rogers (Only National Cable company, ) and Bell , (there are Companies that Sub-contract , but the Lines are still Bell's ) Rogers just doesn't care , I had internet with them , No Contract , I wanted to lower my Internet Package(Not turn off or Cancel) while I was helping a Sick friend in another City , Rogers charged me $200 for an "Implied contract" Breach , ...

  • ...So Every time they send me a letter , I send one back asking them to sue me ,So they can Explain "Implied Contracts" to a Judge, So far nothing has happened , ...

  • Lol. Companies try to hide behind their wall of text all the time just to make some more money. It's a bad practice in my opinion.

  • I don't visit Fox News. I just loaded it up on the basis to show how quickly a "popular" website in the US would load. Helps to compare, say an Office T1/Metro Ethernet/DSL/Cable line to the FiOS line, or even a home connection (lower network priority).

I do trust the BBC fully however.

  • Comcast is so much better than this trash..

  • Cable has been really pumping up speeds lately thanks to DOCSIS 3.0 . If it weren't for FiOS or even the laughable VDSL the cable companies would still be sticking to the lower speeds for the most part. But I suppose it depends on the area as well.

  • Actually those laughable VDSL have been out before Fios.. Cable was fine without crappy Verizon.. I have comcast internet and it's the fastest there is..

  • I'm at my dorm and my connection registered 34.52 down and 17.35 up. anyone know why colleges hav faster connections than most places?

  • It's because many colleges basically run their own ISPs so to speak. Buy bandwidth in bulk (maybe an OC-3 or a couple of Gig-E fiber lines) with multiple IP addresses and share it amongst the campus.

  • if only they deloyed it here in orlando

  • Isn't Orlando AT&T or are there some pockets with Verizon servicing it? I do know that Verizon has FiOS in Fort Lauderdale.

  • Yes, Orlando is AT&T. The only FiOS available in Florida is in Tampa and its neighboring cities. I never heard of anyone having it in Fort Lauderdale? That's weird.

  • how much do you pay for that

  • The price depends on if you have Internet alone or in a bundle. It's cheaper overall in a bundle but alone it's around $60-70 a month. With Triple play depending on your area, it should be around $120-140 for TV, Internet and Phone. It's really a question to ask Verizon themselves or look onto their website.

As a heads up, sometime next week some new speeds and packages will be coming out I believe. Comes with prices and packages with the download and upload being the same.

  • dude man do u no when they are going to make every house be available to every home

  • Don't know. They've only wired up in and around the major cities they service, as well as in some smaller areas. Based on current news, it sounds as though Verizon will really slow down on wiring up new areas until they can get more customers. If your telephone company isn't Verizon, don't expect FiOS to ever come. You'll be stuck with whatever else is available (typically DSL) unless your local town/city runs their own fiber network.

Also, take note that Verizon is selling their rural areas.

  • dude timewarner cable slow downs at night dose verizon fios do the samething

  • Nope. With FiOS you're sharing either a 622Mbps/155Mbps (older areas, soon to be upgraded) or a 2.4Gbps/1.2Gbps backbone fiber line tot he CO with 16-32 other homes. If each neighbor of yours were to subscribe to the "default" package, there would be at least 20Mbps of bandwidth always available. None the less, keep in mind the Internet is a shared medium, so while FiOS won't slow down, traffic on the Internet and poor servers will.

  • Wow. That's quite impressive. I can only dream of such speed; I'm especially impressed with the upload speed.

  • I'm hoping it arrives here soon. I can literally walk to a FiOS serviceable location now in about a half hour. Only thing I have to do in regards to Windows 7 is to get it to be able to use more than 2.5Mbps of upload (thus maxing out the full upload, 25Mbps). I'm not the only one who has seen this, but a few tweaks the next time I can set down with such a connection for a long duration will get things all set up.
