Our political leaders have lost sight of the PURPOSE of Government. I believe the PURPOSE of Government is to " protect and enhance the lives of ALL Canadians (not just Corp's)
There needs 2 be a discussion and agreement amongst all Canadians about what we want the PURPOSE of Government 2 be. That discussion must include shared political values and principles by which we want our elected officials at all levels 2 function. Policies MUST IMPACT all Canadians not just Corporations.
Look, Joe Blow doesn't really care about governing. It's true whether you like it or not. The government needs to reflect this. Unfortunately, all levels of government seek more and more power and control and this is where the chasm develops: the majority of Canadians don't really want to be actively involved. They would much rather do something more interesting. But, government wants more power.
Jabs at Harper aside, I think he misses the mark.

PS: This is truly the social contract of Rosseau. Man is really born free and everywhere he is in chains.
Well, I'm politically active but I hold out no hope that I can stem the tide of well-meaning poli sci graduates.

Something that many Canadians, and even many who live in democratic countries have forgotten. :)
