These loons are incredibly stressed, the tremelo calls and the "penguin dance", with the beak held down against the chest are sure signs that some threat is too close. Another loon, or a person. When you see this, get away immediately!

This may seem like a beautiful "dsncing" display but it id not a game or an invitation to play. On the contrary, these loons are very upset and are responding to some sort of challange. It may be from a rogue loon or a pair trying invading their territory. It may be a person or animal has come too close to their chick(s). Whatever the reson if you see loons behaving like this, leave immediately. Don't stop to take a video or pictures.Loons will continue until the threat is gone or they die.
