First of all, I read enough LuRe fanfic, that I've pretty much convinced myself that Reid never died! And second of all, if Reid did die, I would hope to God Luke never got back together with Noah. Even when I used to love Nuke, I always felt like Noah never loved Luke enough.
Watching every episode starring Reid makes me so sad, because I know that this wonderful thing happening isn't going to last for a long time. How could the writers be this cruel to us? I hope they're heart will get ripped out one day :D (just kidding, ofcourse.)

I will never forget Reid saying "hold the phone"!!! It was that look on his face right before he said it....the realization that finally hit him that Luke loved HIM!! Awww....sheer ecstacy. .........And this is how ATWT's REALLY ended for Luke and Reid.....and Luke woke up just as Reid was getting out of the shower and he realized that Reid's accident was only a bad nightmare.....and they lived happily ever after....together, forever.
I'm still holding on to the possibility of a wedding in a dream sequence! I'm satisfied with the ending & I do not think that Noah and Luke should get back together. Luke has matured. He is ready for a true partnership.
Sorry if I sound cynical or like I didn't/don't care about Luke and Reid. Nothing can be further from the truth. I was heartbroken when he died, but it helps me to see the bigger picture...
3.) In conclusion: The ending - though incredibly sad - gave the audience and the characters exactly what they needed to end this story once and for all:
- Reid became a hero to be severely missed.
- Reid's death put a serious stop to even the possibility of Luke & Noah.
- Luke will now love Reid more (and possibly longer) than if he was alive.
- Even Noah got a chance to be redeemed. He got to be the guy who stands by his ex through his sorrow, even with no chance of getting back tgth.
2.) If - as many of you seem to suggest - Noah had died instead, it WOULDN'T have been a happy ending for Luke and Reid. Because, be honest, if Noah had died, don't you think Luke would be pining away in great sorrow and guilt over him (it does sound like him, doesn't it?) and Reid wouldn't have had a chance. He wasn't ever a great comforter in times of crises, was he? (tbc.)
Ok, don't hate me, but I actually liked the way the writers ended things. *cowers from rocks being thrown* Hear me out! 1.) Luke and Reid were starting a new relationship and neither of them were ready to "ride off into the sunset". Therefore, the writers couldn't have given them a happy-ever-after ending (which also wouldn't be very Reid...), since we wouldn't feel sure that this was forever. And an uncertain future for a couple is not how you want to end a show. (tbc)
@haesselmaas I disagree with you when you say a happy-ever-after with Luke isn't very "Reid." I think we saw Reid evolve, fall deeply in love for the first time in his life and it changed him to the core. We also saw him put Luke above the thing in this world that meant most to him, his career. When I think of Luke and Reid, I DO think this is the couple that would be together through it all, no matter what and still be just as in love and challenged by each other 30 yrs down the road.
@reidstheman I actually agree with you a lot. I misspoke when I said that happily-ever-afters weren't very Reid. What I should say was that they weren't there yet in their relationship. Even though we might be absolutely sure that they would last and that theirs was a love that would last forever, it wouldn't be realistic for either of them to say that to each other. They were still taking small steps.
I just keep re-watching this clip over and over again. I so adore the look on Reid's face right after Luke's admission. <333333 + Eric looks absolutely gorgeous!!!
I have been so upset for the past 4 wks.(since I found out the ending of this show). I hope you have all called ATWT 866-695-1860 to let them know how upset you are that they have killed the best couple ever!! I was so hoping this would all be a nightmare and Luke would wake up on the 17th to free us all . I so wanted to imagine Luke & Reid growing old together. I can't believe Im this heartbroken over soap characters. Go figure!

Eric is so gorgeous in this whole scene. Especially the three or four times he 'smirks' ever so slightly. This is how I want to remember him. Easy and joking with Luke on a bench just chatting.
I think it the perception of the writers when it comes to gay love. In other conteries that have gay love stories play them real or as real a soaps get. One of my favorites is Oliver and Christain, there actively planning there wedding. I beleive the love shown between Reid and Luck is more adult and real in ways, than the story of luke and noah. The luck and noah story was great way back but recently it fell apart. It would be dishonest to the character of Luck to end up with noah in the end.
"you can tell me you love me whenever you want".....Oh Van, can I love you any more than I do when you delivered this line? I'm sure I will in the coming days.....love you,Van!
@ddscurtis Couldn't agree more with you. He delivered that line so perfectly and sweetly that I will forgive the writers that this ILY wasn't really an ILY scene because Luke never said it *to* Reid. He only repeated his words back to Reid. Still love it! I take what I can get by now!

Sitting here with my heart breaking, having just watched a preview for next week, this was so welcome! The chemistry between Luke and Reid is just so real; every look, every touch and every word all add up to love.
Reid's face through that entire thing warmed my heart.. Then the previews put my emotions down the toilet.. I loved when Reid hit him in the head <3 "don't try to be cute" -- ughhh! -- GAHHHHHHH, I love eric, reid, whoever so freaking much.
I am trying not to cry right now because well I'm at work for one thing (don't tell!) but watching this scene is helping me a little bit. So many great little moments, the slap, the smile, the 'don't be cute', the 'I am very angry with you right now', and the knowing little look Luke gives him at the end. What a wonderful scene to remember these two by!!!

Oh my God, the adorable looks Reid has on his face throughout this exchange...and the way Luke looks at him after he says "you probably wouldn't believe me if I said it right now..." - Reid may not have said the words but his face and body language (and even the words he DID say) said it all to Luke.
