Downloaded this soon as I hear the first 20 secs. I am hunting down all versions of this track , so far this one and hummingbirds are the best for that organic funky sound.
No, but Sussex Record's the label that Creative Source recorded for was owned by Bill Withers and run by Clarence Avant. Can't Hide Love was written and produced by Clarence 'Skip" Scarborough who also wrote and produced Don't Ask My Neighbors Love Ballad, among other hits. He died in Baltimore MD. of cancer doing Christian street ministry in 2008.
I used to get my head right drinking Bali-Hai Wine (cheap wine always affected me - LOL); put this 45 of the record player, and harmonize it all the way through!
Out of all the versions of this song, I've always liked this one the best!
C RayZ WallZ copied this (and i mean copied , not sampled !) Luv This ! Luv the CRW interpertation/production TOO ! All Time Classic: C Rayz Wallz : I Love New York !!!!!!!!!!
My Dad had this album on 8-track...used to rock it in the Olds 98...the song is timeless...well, alright, maybe it does sound a bit dated, doesn't make it bad song though does it...NICE!
@78Sista This was the original recording of the song written by the late Skip Scarborough. It was recorded in 1973. Earth Wind & Fire recorded a drastically changed arrangement in 1975.
This was first; then Skip hooked up with Maurice and the other hits rolled out with EWF, Benson.etc... The CS tracks were recorded at the Record Plant on 3rd St. in L.A. (there was one in San Fran too) and doesn't exist anymore. Many of the greatest rock and soul albums of all times were recorded there. Wow the '60's and 70's mmmmmmmmm. Stills, Jonie, Sly Stevie, everybody.
Jessica Cleaves' journey: Creative Source, Earth Wind and Fire, and the Friends of Distinction...what a well recognized and unrated voice...just like and angel. We miss her!
To qwamiade yes they did indeed record this first but i had NO IDEA that Skip Scarbourough wrote the song!!! To DatsoulBoss I grew up in Brooklyn also. I'm so old school I remember when WWRL played music . Do you remember a record store called Birdell's?
Wow!!! I had no idea they cut the original version. Man, its a close call to compare this w/EWF. Aaaaaaah shucks eff the comparison I'll just sit my black ass back and enjoy both to the utmost.
This was a great LP! And this was my favorite song on the LP & even today, hearing this nearly brings tears to my eyes just remembering how great it was to be 13 & growing up in Brooklyn. I still have the 45, the LP & although it includes Magic Carpet Ride & the classic Who Is He, this is my favorite & will ALWAYS be my favorite version of the song, EW&F, notithstanding. My next favorite is definitely Oh Love. Ma, I love this song!!!
@DatSoulBoss Ooooo my Im about to cry. I have been looking for this song for ages. Everything you said about: growing up in Brooklyn (Bed-Stuy for me) and using the word LP only ppl our age talk like this. The passion u have for this song is the same way I feel. Especially when the sista hits that high note...this was and still is D best album. Don't let the pic foul ya......I been sporting a FRO for 4yrs now, had to go back to my roots. This is my kind of music.Thx 4 Da memories
@DatSoulBoss Yes I loved this LP when I was 12 in Rockford,Illinois. Creative Source was popular in the hood here. I didn't know they did it before EW&F. I like creative sources version better BUT Maurice did tear it up!
Wow thank you sooo much for the post!!! This song was and still is my favorite cut off of this album!!! And yes, I did say album!!!! Ive still own it too!!! When I was around 7 or 8, the group as whole use to be good friends with my family. I had a crush on Celeste, but loved laughing and plkaying w/ Steve. He was ALWAYS was very kind to me and ALWAYS made time to hang out with me! God Bless you!
THANK U!!

He used this for the chorus, Hiller.
If you listen to "Pete's Jazz", you'll hear the chorus comes in at 1.15, 2.19, 3.33 and 4.26 That's the song he used on Pete's Jazz
