  • david fincher is the man, the best director of his generation.

  • I've been watching the Oscars for years. They always pick the wrong winner. And then they pick this soundtrack and... Totally redeem themselves

  • This music makes you want to create the next big thing

  • The best thing about this soundtrack is the at the end, around 4:18 when you hear that "whoop" sound.

  • Great homework music.

  • Staying up late doing work, making way through the Social Network soundtrack. :D

  • The best movie i watched that year.

  • Trying to study to this while wearing headphones, and the sound in the back that cuts in and out ever so slightly makes it impossible. My brain forces me to focus on the background.

  • Ross produces something so good...

but fucks up Coheed so bad...

  • "Harvard University fall 2003"

  • @khanman25 with the snowflakes is more like winter

  • This movie had an awesome score, but I didn't really like Trent and Atticus's work on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

  • @SilentNoise92

    Can I ask why?

  • @Spectre1545 For me it just wasn't as fluid. Every track in this movie went with the scene(s) that it was used in. There were a few times in Girl With the Dragon Tattoo that I felt the music was out of place. That's just me though, maybe others felt differently.

  • most simple yet most creative song ever.

  • 6 notes. 1 oscar. Thank you Trent for showing why I loved your work for so many years.

    Never forget The Fragile.

  • "the rest of my attention is back at the offices of facebook, where my colleagues and I are doing things that no one in this room including and especially your clients are intellectually or creatively capable of doing."

  • it's like it's from a horror film. the music and the lighting make the atmosphere so frightening

  • I watched the special features for this movie and Trent said the piano played at 3 different points. Each time the piano was placed further away from the recording device to give it a more "echoey" sound. Each time it represented the extent to which Zuckerberg fell into his "madness". I thought that was pretty effin cool.

  • Although the entire song is compelling and beautiful all I can think about is how much it sounds like the noise I make when I scuff my chair.

  • Like flames in my fireplace, against the coolness of the rain outside my window, this music is their song, as I sit there thinking about them, I give thought and recognition, confirming their beauty.

  • "It's raining"

  • You know your a genius when you can win a Academy Award by only playing six keys on a piano. Damn, nice job.

  • Could anyone tell me if this song has been in a different movie? I can't remember which movie or TV show I saw, but I know the music was from The Social Network. I've been watching mostly movies on Starz, HBO, etc lately. I thought it might be "Let Me In" or "Love and Other Drugs", but I don't think it was. Anyone know?

  • @hedup34 I could swear I heard it in "Drive." That movie starring Ryan Gosling.

  • @1DJXL You did. They use it during the scene where Gosling is having dinner with the family next door.

  • @FXwakeboard Thanks for posting this information. I swear I've watch 30 movies and thought that the next one was for sure it. It turned out to be Drive. Thanks to you sir.

  • @1DJXL Thanks buddy. That was bothering the shit out of me. I kept asking Reznor on Twitter, but you know how celebrities are lol. Well Thanks a lot. I owe ya one

  • I wish that violin guy would be in the background in the middle of the song.

  • @kjones1909 Nice.

  • This song is breathtaking. It is so simple, yet so beautiful. I find it incredibly amazing that even though it is so simple, it has an immense amount of feeling. It is beautiful, sad, and a bit inspiring. Surprisingly, it reminds me of an autumn day. The Social Network would be an incomplete movie without this track.

  • It sounds like a server in the background. Maybe I'm just reading into the internet aspects of the story too much.

  • The Social Network made me aware of Aaron Sorkin, which made me watch The West Wing, which turned out to be the best T.V show I've ever seen, so I'm grateful for The Social Network being awesome.

  • I like standing next to you, it makes me feel so tuff.

  • the background is like listening to thoughts.

  • Evokes an atmosphere of foreboding trouble and sadness. The name of the sang is absolutely perfect!

  • this track is just so....unique. I know that word is overused nowadays, but I really mean it. I can feel the cold, waiting for something to happen atmosphere of a famous place like Harvard when I hear this.

  • this music has soo much meaning to me, motivating, depressing, thinking bout how many ways i can make money...

  • This score is extraordinary in the sense that it draws so many emotions from so little. It's wonderfully understated. Although I think Hans Zimmer's Inception score was better for the sheer scope and epicness it brought to the table, this song must be applauded.

  • @92chillwill

Inception had a brilliant soundtrack, yes, but The Social Network's soundtrack fit the movie so perfectly and, like you and a few others have said, makes you feel various emotions at once, especially this song.

  • @92chillwill the begining is thoughtfulness, and remorse, followed by determination and anger.

  • i usually wouldn't waste my time to post meaningless comments that get attached to a video that people only read while they impatiently wait for their clip to load but with this soundtrack i will make an exception...it is awesome.

  • Is this the first film to win Best Original Score whose score isn't orchestral?

  • @Winduct Yes it is. Which is quite extraordinary really.

  • mark zuckerburg was sorta an asshole in the movie but in real life i think hes something more, imagine all u need is brains, guts and a will to know how to computer proggram u could be like this guy or get paid tons of money working at google or microsoft. Mark lived the american dream, not cause he worked really really hard, its cause he had brains and used his brains to work hard

  • I love this song, it doesn't have lirics but the music is absolutely magnifique

  • All I can think of when I hear this now is "FUCK The Kings Speech!"

  • A great piece to the defining film of this generation.

  • I applauded when this won best original score. Fucking beautiful soundtrack. A very wide range of emotions in all of the songs.

  • Can somebody please tell what the fuck that noise is in the background?!

sounds like someone who is just thrashing on the violin.

  • @ZincInfinity Some type of Violin that is being switched between right and left speakers and fading in and out.

  • @ZincInfinity probably an aircondition drone that went through a lot of sound processing. or a violin. guess we wouldn't know.

  • @ZincInfinity I think it's meant to represent the wavy feeling that Mark endures when he's stuck with the decisions he's facing that as the more that Facebook is being created, the more his relationships with his friends are fading away. And I'm guessing the reason why it's so fast is because Mark has a smart mind and has all these questions and thoughts racing through his mind constantly.

  • the first 19 seconds remind me of Just Like You Imagined.

  • One of the best movies I've ever seen, and one of the most brilliant musical scores ever written.

  • Long before watching TSN, I had unsuscribed from FaceBook. After watching, I knew I was absolutely right. But thanks to Faceetc, this piece of music was made. So it worth it... in a certain way.

  • Thumb up if you are bright enough to know that this song was better when it was music for airports by brian eno and want other people to be aware of the regurgitation inherent in its success.

  • @murmur54kbr Trent tends to borrow things from time to time. I wonder if he really does it knowingly, at least some times.

Still, he is a talented musician in his own right and for all we know they are great pals and secretly have man crushes on each other.

  • @Sabbatai Please don't misunderstand me. Nine Inch Nails has had no shortage of influence in my music appreciation. But this is blatant, and it won an Oscar for it. I was more than just a little bummed that the Tron soundtrack wasn't even nominated. But yes, Synth envy and man crushes all around.

  • @murmur54kbr nobody know what you are talking about you ledge

  • @TheSnakeye353 Then Google it and learn some music history you illiterate lummox.

Music for Airports by Brian Eno

can I make this more clear?

  • @murmur54kbr i am able to read, you could make it more clear by coming to my mansion and explain it to me

  • "You better lawyer up asshole, cause i'm not coming back for 30%. I'm coming back for everything!" that line always sends shivers down my spine and when Mark just flat out pwned the living the shit out of the twins and the lawyer..."Did I adequately answer your condensending question?" Those two quotes were said when this song was played and it was like it was deliberately timed. The execution between quote and rhythm is uncanny. The Social Network, what a grand film with a grand score.

  • this song is just so- sad. it like makes me go back to any bad memories ive ever had and just view them in a weird, eerie, peaceful way.

  • 6 people can`t do good social network

  • The minimalism of the score is what makes it so effective! The lonely classical piano layered on top of the tension inducing industrial noise is absolutely brilliant! I am a massive fan of Hans Zimmer, but his score was to be expected: gorgeous sweeping themes.

What Reznor and Ross wrote felt new and fresh. Their score elevated the film & gave it a gravity that it would not have had otherwise. I was pleasantly surprised that the academy honored a less conventional but obviously deserving score.

  • @claricefell Well put.

  • @claricefell if you are a fan of hans zimmer I invite you to listen to:

The Weather Man - Melanchromy by Hans Zimmer

  • Best original score? Cummon its ok but nothing like Hanz Zimmer. Its not even that original: You put a beat to this and it becomes Chariots of fire by Vangelis

  • @2109917162 I totally agree. I wasn't really impressed by this score. It's interesting, but next to Hans Zimmer, it's just rather blah. It's a few notes played over some creepy background noise. Not worth the Oscar in my opinion.

  • @StratagemBlue Don't hate. Just appreciate.

  • @akyl412 I wasn't hating. I was stating an opinion.

  • @StratagemBlue

You don't get it, movie soundtracks aren't about making songs that sell on itunes. Soundtracks add an extra layer of atmosphere and emotion. And that "creepyness" is exactly what you should be feeling when you listen to this...so, it's doing its job, even if you don't notice it.

  • @WrathOfFlame I'm not saying that it's not effective. It does create an atmosphere, and I thought it worked well in the film. I'm just not that impressed with it overall. In comparison to some of my favorite soundtracks, and the scores of other films nominated for the Oscar, I think it was just okay. But I can understand why people like it.

  • @2109917162 and it is very inspired from The Weather Man - Melanchromy by hans zimmer !

  • The score fits the movie... but is not really meant for this movie... it's too dark haunting provocative and emotional to fit the story of I guy who started a website.

  • @Ichvyenichalster I disagree because eveything he went through was dark, provacative and emotional. It wasn't just about starting the website.

  • "And how much had your shares diluted down to?"

    "0.03%"

and then the song begins to play and it fits perfectly...

  • I love how the last note the piano plays gets more and more flat as the song goes on

  • @icecreampimp i think it goes perfect wen he says"u better lawyer up asshole becuase i am not coming back for 30 percent. im coming back for everything"

  • This is the song I really noticed the most during the movie. It does a superb job of capturing the isolation and emotion of the scenes in which it's used.

  • This song won them the Oscar. The rest of the soundtrack is... okay... in no way better than Desplat or Zimmer. But this song.... wow.... absolutely beautiful. The way they ended up throwing it into the film was great.

  • I love this track. Whenever I hear it, I picture in my mind that I'm taking a leisurely stroll outside on a calm summer night and nothing happens, just seeing the stars and moon, and the breeze going through my hair, and it's very calm and peaceful, especially with the piano.

  • Meh. Daft Punk's T:L score is so much more interesting IMO. Mediocrity at best, I feel and not award worthy.

  • breathtaking

  • Absolutely beautiful. So glad the soundtrack won the Oscar..

  • there is something just so soothing and sad about the music which makes me love it just that much more.

  • nice relaxing song for the begining of the movie

  • orignially i was like ye zimmer for inception but i gotta say that after listen to a few of the songs again from the social network i reaslied how perfect the songs were and how they really suited d arrogance and brashness of the story

  • hanz iz better, but i can lizzen to thiz zzong over and over again.

  • Trent>Hanz

  • FANTASTIC SCORE

    FANTASTIC SOUNDTRACK

    FANTASTIC TRENT and ROSS!!!

    Congratulations!

  • It STANDS out, Hans Zimmer work sounds the same as any movie score, but this is different, refreshing.

  • How to Train your Dragon should have won the best original score...

  • This soundtrack is so good, I think it should win an Oscar. Oh wait....

    - satire -

  • amazing!

  • What an absolute rip off of of Brian Eno's Music for Airports,...I am calling Trent and Atticus out on it. At least Reznor should have known better.

  • Me and Mark Zuckerberg have much in common. That worries me.

  • @AleMedina1989

Don't worry, embrace it... see where it got him!

  • When i seen the movie the first time i didnt know why it resonated with me. it left me a little sad but something about the movie really moved me. i seen it a second time and still don't know why i was still hypnotized by the movie. When someone told me trent reznor did the soundtrack it hit me like a ton of bricks. NIN was such a big part of my early adulthood in experiencing the highs and lows of life. It is a period when NIN defined how i felt about alot of things. truly a special time.

  • rate him

  • "Sorry! My Prada's at the cleaners! Along with my hoodie and my fuck-you flip-flops!"

  • @hammy012 You pretentious douchebag!

  • 4 people got their shares diluted down to 0.03%

  • 0,03% for eduardo saverin.

  • damn two fuckin notes = most epic movie song

  • @SilkweeshughFilms Also a slight bass rev. Who'da thunk it.

  • Comment removed

  • you can tell atticus ross had a part in it. it has the same style as the stuff he did in book of eli.

  • I heard that this song wasn't originally in the movie...there was supposed to be a happier song, but Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross decided to screw the rules!! So glad they did. Any other somg would've been an epic fail.

  • So magnificent, once you hear it, you have to hear it again, and again, and again, and so on...................

  • this song reminds me of Animal crossing

  • oscar worthy soundtrack

  • how can a song be creepy and soothing at the same time? lol

  • This was definitely the song that stood out most to me..Beautiful.

  • This song is haunting, beautiful, tense, scary, and perfect. It can communicate a thousand different emotions at once, grief, betrayal, anger, pain, and the highest moments of joy. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross deserve an Academy Award just for this piece, because it is a masterpiece.

  • @HelterSlelter13 Brian Eno wrote music for Airports in 1978.

listen to it and tell me if they still deserve an Academy Award...

  • @murmur54kbr I have listened, and I still believe that Trent and Atticus deserved the award. Both scores are similar, and both are absolutely gorgeous, but I don't see anyone plagiarizing from anyone else. Musicians take inspiration from one another, as all artists do. In the end, Hand Covers Bruise and all of the music from The Social Network belongs to Trent and Atticus alone. They created something beautiful, and they were rewarded for it. There's nothing wrong with that.

  • @HelterSlelter13 they got it. they won an Oscar for Best Original Score.

  • @drcanoro That was one of the happiest moments of the Oscars for me. That and Aaron Sorkin getting the Award for the screenplay, which is also a masterpiece. Trent and Atticus deserved it, no matter what anyone says. I wanted so badly for the movie to get Best Picture, and David to get Best Director, it broke my heart when they didn't win. But The Social Network will always be the best picture to us, no matter what.

  • @HelterSlelter13 i agree x 10000000000000,

  • @HelterSlelter13 I invite you to hear the song "dream is collapsing" from Inception and see what a master peace is, With all due respect to you and Social Network Soundtrack.

  • @EnricoYuman I have listened to "Dream Is Collapsing," and I agree that it is a masterpiece as well, as is the entire Inception soundtrack. Hanz Zimmer is one of the greatest composers of all time, and his work is masterful. Both songs are master works, and are worthy of praise and attention. I love them both.

  • @HelterSlelter13 when best original score went to Trent Tezno & Atticus Rossr over Hans Zimmer for inception at first i was upset but after listening to this carefully the award went to its rightful owner.

  • The other nominee's chances for the Oscar: 0.003%

  • Cube Destination

  • Mark!!! Mark!!!!!!

    Hes wired in

    Sorry?

    Hes wired in

    Is he?

    Yes

    (grabs laptop and smashes)

  • @DXRunescape Wrong scene bro.

  • @jakesworld12 no this is the scene where he goes .003 percent

  • @DXRunescape sorry, I watched the movie last night and noticed there were a few scenes with the music.

  • how do they make that backround sound?

  • @INTERPOLFAN17 sounds like lightly running the bow across a cello or violin on the same note and they just endlessly loop the sound recorded

  • @xyrxes1 wow.so simple yet so awesome.

  • @INTERPOLFAN17

They layered several thousand farts together.

  • @icecreampimp send me the link why don't cha

  • FUCK YEAH! TRENT REZNOR!!!!!!!

  • This song is so pretty.

  • Love that sinister bass, very John Carpenter-esque.

  • "Oops..."

  • But you haven't! That's the point ^^

And well, its a background music for a movie... what would you expect?

Shouldn't distract to much, just cause a dramatic feeling.

  • How does this win a golden globe? Its weird buzzy noise and descending piano notes! I could have done that!

  • @TTimCurry93 you know nothing.

  • @TTimCurry93 But you didn't. Music doesn't need to be complicated to be profound! The most beautiful and emotional songs I've heard are so simple. You just have to understand how each note can penetrate into someone and change them. Make them understand something they never knew they could. As a movie score this soundtrack does a simple and beautiful job of drawing you into the story further, making you feel what the characters feel, without distracting from the actual scene. It's perfect.

  • It's like 5 different piano notes, yet it's so powerful and strong.

  • this song defines the movie.

  • this song is suicidal......so strong but so simple and beautiful.......

  • This movie won Golden Globes for the best score, director, screen play, and Best Picture!!!!

  • This song depresses the hell out of me yet I still love it. WHY

  • @Catfishtuba1 Because that's the amazing art of NIN! or i mean Trent Reznor

  • and i dont know why.i feel alone.

  • i love it.it's really fit on.

  • It's just beautiful.

  • I love Trent's music. He is so talented

  • Thumbs up if you searched Mark Zuckerberg on facebook to send a friend request after watching the movie.

  • @FZoonE he doesn't have a facebook anymore due to him getting too many requests

  • @FZoonE Not sure if you would really want to be his friend.

  • @FZoonE hes a total douche, i wouldnt want to be his friend haha

  • @NurseEri Haha i know ;) but it would still be cool to be friend with a billionaire x)

  • @FZoonE it wont let you

  • @FZoonE

you can't send Zuckerberg a friend request....

  • lets all just gang up on me huh? well I was just saying how the movie was good?
