I followed him from the time of the Atlantics. Wow! One year, 1976, he had a great car from Ecurie Canada and won all but one of the races that season. That is the year he had to give up his car to James Hunt at Trois-Rivieres. He beat Hunt in the back-up car. To think what he could have done in a great car in F1!
WMG seems incredible not to avoid the use of such music to this video! Is the company going to be no so much rich for that? Shame on you, capital pigs!

fancy including mansell in the same sentence as gilles,,, nigel was, and still is a whining moaning pom who only won a title because of his fantastic williams in 92,!!!
He was truly fearless. Just look at what he did in this video!!!! noone drives a Formula 1 car with one wheel almost completely off or the front wing missing. And he had real skill.
there is a bronze statue at the maranello factory of a driver, requested to be put there by enzo ferrari, guess who it is, thats right, the one and only gilles villeneuve, tells you what enzo thought of him, the greatest driver, gilles, long live the king
I saw his spirit in Montoya, but no one can ever come close to Gilles. And I include Senna, Schumacher, Mansell. Gilles was F1!
I'm from Manchester, but I wish you'd stuck a Stone Roses song on! Personal preference, I guess! Reni refused to join them, the drummer of his generation. Says its all! Haha, I'm being daft.

it's always been laughable to me when, well intentioned watchers claim of the "red mist" re: GV's death. jochen (toss) mass, committed two major errors in except able driving standards. 1) a driver must never drive down the middle of the circuit while preforming a cooling down lap. 2) a driver should never change directions on the circuit to either impede or help another driver, as it will only lead to confusion on witch side to pass. pure and complete incompetence on jm's part. the myth lives.

For Pironi he wanted to be a winner at Imola. I love Villeneuve. But just think of the adrenlin at Imola. Think of Pironi wanting to be a winner. It was a great duel. It ended so sadly. Believe me Pironi paid for the way he acted at Imola. It's time after 26 years to forgive. Rip Gilles.
Everyone wants to win every race. What happened at Zolder happened because Gilles was driving in "the red mist"...as a racer, I've learned myself the hard way that driving "in the red mist" leads to colossal errors in judgement. Imola was only a great duel because Gilles slowed by 2-3 seconds when he was in the lead as ordered. Yes, I forgive and forgave Pironi after a while, but I still believe he fully deserves the "black bar" side-note for blatantly disobeying team orders and it's outcome.
I stand by what I wrote. Pironi felt remorse after the fact but he showed Villeneuve no respect. I still wonder what the F1 scenery would have looked like if you had added Villeneuve into the mix, battling with Piquet, Prost, Senna, Mansell (et al) in the mid to late 80's and early 90's. Naming his son after him might show respect (more a tribute) but where was the respect at Imola?
It was acctually Pironi's ex wife or partner who had twins after both gilles and pironis death and named one gilles and the other pironi. I agree he should great regret and remorse for what he did and i'm sure he went to grave with guilt on his mind. I'm saddend by the last month of gilles's life, it turns my stomach in knots.
During the Italian grand prix at Imola Gilles took the lead after the Renaults fall out of the race with engine problems. Gilles basically led the entire race from then on in and the Ferrari team displayed a 'slow' sign to both drivers which means lower revs, short gear change and hold positions. Gilles slowed where as Pironi passed Gilles and Gilles re-passed the same process happened twice over and Pironi won. The whole world agrees that Pironi went against an agreement and stole victory.

I think the lyric in that song "AND MY ENEMIES ALL KNOW MY NAME" was just fitting. Because everyone in Formula 1 knew his name and knew if you had to battle for position with the Red27 you were in for a hell of a "dogfight".
Gilles era un grandissimo, pilota tecnicamente superiore a tutti, gran controllo di macchina ma forse troppo focoso. Con più di testa avrebbe vinto un mondiale. Rimarrà sempre nel mio cuore.
I wish all these wonderful Villeneuve tributes didn't show his final crash, there is much to remember but this part is unnecessarily painful for a driver who deserves to have the best of his inspiring accomplishments shown. We have all seen this horrifying crash, it's been run time and time again, it brings tears to my eyes each time I watch it, why not focus on the good stuff?
I disagree with you...Gilles and Stirling Moss yes, but Pironi I don´t agree. I think that Alesi, Berger, Ronnie Peterson or Chris Amon deserved it more than Pironi did.
Come on boys don't argue, everyone has their own opinions and if they differ then that's fine. Not worth falling out over, is it? Gilles was my favourite driver of that era and I met him at Silverstone once, very nice guy he was too.
My dad who used to race in F2, during the same era, knew Gilles and other top drivers back then. There's nothing he didn't know about Gilles, so the experience is passed on as well as everything else I already know.
Unlike Senna, who seemed to usher in the era of dirty pool and cut-throat competition on track, Gilles never took chances that put other drivers' lives on the line, however cavalier he was about his own. He was truly a consummate professional from his days on the Chapparel snowmobile team to his untimely death in that Ferrari. Should have been a world champion.
How the fuck would you know? You were not even born when he died and you show your utter ignorance by quoting others views, not your own! Gilles was a hero, so was Ayrton, your broad brush clap trap is ill informed and typical of 'experts' who know fuck al1.
Keke Rosberg (a driver of the same era) says the very same. I have every broadcasted race ever shown of Gilles and Senna. That's how I can form an opinion dumb nut.
