I love to ride my sport bike (Busa) and I am sure a lot of you out there do too. On 26 September 2009 at 1:13 pm my best friend was killed by one of these crazy ass riders on I 95 in front of the Philly airport. This guy was switching lanes and cutting off traffic like he made it up. That fool cut my homie off running him off the road hitting a guard rail, killing him instantly. It was sad to see him lose his arm and his brain left inside of his helmet. SLOW IT DOWN PLEASE!!!!
I work at a motorcycle shop and I have ridin sport bikes for years... And the riders that do this on public roads and those of you here that think this story is stupid or is no big deal, ARE WRONG!!! A sport bike does make you feel FREE and EXCITING and as with all things there is a place and time for that. Like a TRACK DAY at your local race track... otherwise those of you that ride like this are DUMB!!!
Take it to the track. It's selfish and inconsiderate to endanger and scare unwilling motorists. On the track everybody knows and accepts the risks, let the laptimes do the talking. If riding on the road is causing a danger or scaring other road users it doesn't help the biking community, we have to share the roads, upsetting drivers will make them even more anti motorcyclists!
Not that I'm for doing that kind of speed, but you also have to factor in how quickly motorcycles can slow down or even stop compared to cars. They are much quicker to accelerate, but also to slow down.
I'm a sportbike rider, and I've ridden 30 mph above the limit, sometimes to 90-100 if there are no cars on mile long straights. This looks like a very busy road, and I'm very surprised there are so many people riding with so many cars. You don't see cruisers going over the speed limit because they can't lean as far as sport bikes.
See the problem with the Atlanta area is that there is no track to go to. The only track around (Road Atlanta). Doesn't have open track days. Trust me if I could go to a track I would.

In Britain you can hit maybe 130mph on the straights, but we have way more corners and bends than you guys.

there is good and bad to both sides. 153 in a 45, that's pretty sick. but on the other hand, I believe doing the speed limit with motorist who pass the test with anything less than a 95% is the riskiest way to be in traffic. I'm really tired of News like this. Yes 153 in traffic is excessive but many people use logic when driving or riding fast. Speed limits are set low because of the revenue it generates and to compensate for people that should have never been given a license to drive. We need to push for an American Autobahn. There is almost no driver training required to drive in America, but those who can drive properly at speed should be able to legally. Those who can't or won't should stay in the right lane.

Sport bikes are designed for high speed and fast braking. If you cant handle it, then get a, "street fighter." I was a state certified performance driving instructor and I have spoken with many cops, both friends and otherwise. America sets their speed limits low for reasons other than driver safety. @glsracer To draw a comparison, it's similar to parking fines, people never illegally park again after one bad fine, and the parking areas in cities are kept a lot more organised than otherwise. Sure, they make money off it, but these fines stop people doing it again which in turn makes the road a much safer place. I'd rather not have another rider on the road going at 90mph crash into me when I'm just minding my own business at a safe limit. Grow up dude, learn some real safety.

@glsracer Totally agree. I do know how to drive and received perfect driving grades, so when I took the BMV test drive at my driving school, I can understand why the driving instructor was lenient. I had already proven I knew how to drive. Still, my test was over in 5 minutes. I drove slightly over a mile and I wasn't even asked to parallel park. We should make the driving test more rigorous, possibly allowing for faster driving without serious problems or argument as to the safety of speed.

There are a lot of arguments here. But a major one that this news crew blatantly ignored is that speed limits do not take superbikes into consideration when established. This "issue" exists because superbikes CAN safely pull off those speeds and they aren't cars or trucks. these people... the recommended speed limit is for large trucks on wet roads, not a bike. yes i agree that passing near a blind corner is not very safe, but they are on vehicles able to making those turns at 60+ mph and will most likely take those turns at a speed respective to their experience level. Unless the bike is crashing straight into the driver side door of a car at 150mph, a 600lb sport bike going into the back of a 4000lb+ car isn't going to do anything to the people in the car. It might shatter some glass, but the people will be fine regardless. The driver of the bike will of course be dead, but it was their own decision to go that fast. Saying that these bikes can harm people in cars is downright untrue, take a physics course you morons.

I'm really tired of News like this. Yes 153 in traffic is excessive but many people use logic when driving or riding fast. Speed limits are set low because of the revenue it generates and to compensate for people that should have never been given a license to drive. We need to push for an American Autobahn. There is almost no driver training required to drive in America, but those who can drive properly at speed should be able to legally. Those who can't or won't should stay in the right lane.

They make it seem like its a big issue, but they themselves point it out that it is a small number of riders, "experienced," that are causing the problem. Sport bikes are designed for high speed and fast braking. If you cant handle it, then get a, "street fighter." No matter what they say, most of the time, the people causing problems are drivers who don't see the rider. Although 153mpg is pretty ballsy. I wish Speeders take over my city.

I was a state certified performance driving instructor and I have spoken with many cops, both friends and otherwise. America sets their speed limits low for reasons other than driver safety. @glsracer you actually have no idea. If you really were a driving instructor, you would know that these limits are set for safety. They are enforced with such harsh fines so that people ACTUALLY stay below the limit, and it works rather well doesn't it? Only arrogant riders and moronic car drivers still continue to speed (and for the record I'm both a rider and driver).and our death rates on the road are lower because of it.

@glsracer To draw a comparison, it's similar to parking fines, people never illegally park again after one bad fine, and the parking areas in cities are kept a lot more organised than otherwise. Sure, they make money off it, but these fines stop people doing it again which in turn makes the road a much safer place. I'd rather not have another rider on the road going at 90mph crash into me when I'm just minding my own business at a safe limit. Grow up dude, learn some real safety.

@dilligaf1942 In order to catch a rider capable of going 150 mph, the police would have to have multiple cars or road blocks and it would still be very dangerous The best thing would be to station cameras at intervals, that took photos of of license plates. Most people feel that is too intrusive. It is certainly expensive. At least you can SEE them when they are going 150. LOL

@glsracer Totally agree. I do know how to drive and received perfect driving grades, so when I took the BMV test drive at my driving school, I can understand why the driving instructor was lenient. I had already proven I knew how to drive. Still, my test was over in 5 minutes. I drove slightly over a mile and I wasn't even asked to parallel park. We should make the driving test more rigorous, possibly allowing for faster driving without serious problems or argument as to the safety of speed.

There are a lot of arguments here. But a major one that this news crew blatantly ignored is that speed limits do not take superbikes into consideration when established. This "issue" exists because superbikes CAN safely pull off those speeds and they aren't cars or trucks. these people... the recommended speed limit is for large trucks on wet roads, not a bike. yes i agree that passing near a blind corner is not very safe, but they are on vehicles able to making those turns at 60+ mph and will most likely take those turns at a speed respective to their experience level. Unless the bike is crashing straight into the driver side door of a car at 150mph, a 600lb sport bike going into the back of a 4000lb+ car isn't going to do anything to the people in the car. It might shatter some glass, but the people will be fine regardless. The driver of the bike will of course be dead, but it was their own decision to go that fast.
