one must love to live in horrible places like new york in order to find dubai a nice city. skyscrapers are just piled up expensive materials. you need vast amounts of energy to cool and to heat them. the arabs should have their own way of construction and build structures that doesnt imitate but deal with the environment. I'm sure such structures and ideas do exist.

Dubai is a major fail. It's a beautiful city in the desert. But it looks like it's gonna run out of money to finish. Buy now.. I feel in 5 years a new economy rise will occure. And those apartments will be worth 7-8 times what you pay. If I had the money, I'de take a chance in one of the apartments/condos. And just rent it out to some rich family.

Dubai knew its oil was running out in the 90's so snatched up every franchise available. Then made it so people could buy property. The bubble is that people live there and earn and spend there - add tax free and hot weather and it is better than Europe. Tie the currency to the US$ and it is more stable than Switzerland.

who said there are poor people? maybe 95% of dubai population have nothing to do with the wealth of dubai, but only 10% of population are the real locals! all the forigners (90%)have nothing to complain about! they can always go home!

I really like the modern architecture in Dubai, but I think major projects like "The World" and stuff built over the ocean ruin the topography from a bird's eye view. In all, it looks completely silly and no it doesnt even look like a globe when youre looking at it, its only from above. They should have thought this through more.

The entire hype in dubai is silly. It depends on foreigners paying in. It depends 100% on expensive live supporting systems. If the AC or household computers shuts off due to financial troubles, the buildings are completely useless. Everything has been build as dubai would be in the alps. Why didnt you use tents? You would have a lot of money left for meaningful investments like schools and water supply for your poor people instead of idiotic artificial islands with a decaying sea-life around it

We have the biggest charities for the poor... every school in dubai took part in it... people randomly put millions to help other countries... when you know nothing about us you shouldn't judge. i have traveled every summer from when i was bborn till now..16.. and believe me dubai is by far the safest city... we welcome anyone to our city with no judgment.. and thats what you get back ? people who clearly know nothing about us talk trash. :)

In no way can I claim to be an expert on their culture.

I dont remember the country, but I saw a car that was covered in diamonds,

& another situation where a princess or queen or something, hired a 757 to transport the merchandise from a shopping spree from the US.

It just struck me as grotesque, crass, dreadful, excess.

look everything is linked to the dollar - if there is a squeeze on the dollar - how do u lend to business and investors and how do develops collect essentially trade dries up. Dhubai is splendour but still |"not" complete. Once completed and fully functional it will be a desert paradise.. assuming we ALL can go and spend our money there that is.

I'm from the USA. I've been to Dubai. It's soooo nice! I love the city and the people. It's so clean and new. The climate is warm. I hate cold weather. I hate snow. I like sunny beaches and palm trees. Dubai is great. Hope to go back there for a vacation again!

what making it even worse is their dollar is locked in exchange rate with u.s dollar and the u.s is printing money like crazy devalue the u.s dollar which in turn pull UAE currency down with it.
