@LBanchio he is known as the voice of rock for a reason. He is just doing something different with this song, now wether you like that or not is personal. And btw most true rock fans, even ronnie fans would say that the ultimate version of this song is that of california jam with D Coverdale handling the lead vocals. Ronnie sang it kind of like "I've been miss-treated" kind of weird compared to coverdale "I've been mistreated" well ronnie was/is not known as a blues singer, the greatest heavy m!
@LBanchio CHeck out "Let It Down Easy", a track he did with Iommi on the Fused album. When he's actually singing in full voice his voice is pretty awesome but just like you, I think falsetto is best used in a small dosis because yeah, this is pretty gay...
I'll know I'll be hated for saying this. I've loved Glenn Hughes since the original Trapeze days, but sometimes he tends to over-sing. As if to prove he's a genuine soul singer. Yes, he's the real deal, that's why he still has the huge following that he has (including me), but nonetheless, sometimes too many vocal acrobatics can kill an otherwise great performance.
@PurpleEyes82 Seriosuly, that passage is quite easy, and he sings all his high notes in falsetto. He's a great singer, but there are singers who can/could do this in headvoice. Rob Halford for example.
Glenn Hughes wrote this song together with Blackmore and Coverdale. He don't appear in the credits of Burn due to contractual issues but he wrote it.I've seen him doing this part live:this is an improvisation he does every time at the end of the song, but it's not an alternate version of Mistreated!Check out Glenn Hughes with Rata Blanca and you'll find an amazing version of this song.Coverdale today is junk,he can't sing anymore live.Glenn Hughes still has an amazing voce! Go on Glenn
Ok Glenn we know you have a great voice and range but this is a classic rock/blues song please treat with the respect it deserves this is a total abomination!!!Whatever anyone says IMHO no one sang this better than David Coverdale
This is an EPIC classic rock/blues song, recieving an EPIC personal performance by someone who played a major part in making the song what it is today...Try listening to "pure music" and not "genres" or "tags" next time....
Glenn Hughes played NO real part in Making Mistreated the epic that it is !!! The song was written by Blackmore and Coverdale and was a huge highlight of Purple MK3 shows because of Davids wonderful bluesy vocals and Blackers brilliant guitar work Glenn simply played bass and provided some backing vocals(which were generally squawking) Sorry mate Glenn Hughes is a huge talent and did contribute some fine work in Purple but Mistreated is DCs song and this version by Glenn is an abomination
Right....Fine,you know your bookworm stuff...Know listen to the damn song...Like it for what it is,GOOD MUSIC.FFS you're talking about music,ART ya know, with more technicalities than a NASA engineer...He didnt write the song,he played bass,DP played the song in THAT tempo,blablablablabla....Playing the song just as the original is would make you happy eh?I'm sure it would...IT would make him no better than a CD player though,so remove those blindfolds, and listen, dont think,listen...
I have listened and I do accept it for what it is which is an abomination! I think Glenn has a fantastic voice(I have all of his solo albums as well as the Purple and Trapeze stuff) but I really dont like the funky soul stuff that he does nor the whoopin and this particular rendition of Mistreated does nothing for me I have heard him do truly awesome versions over the years but this is just not to my taste at all! BTW you claimed he played a major part in the song im simply stating he didnt!!
...have got to agree with you on this one.I first saw glenn in trapeze 1971 and then in 81 with hughes- thrall.I am a huge fan but i think his soulful interpretations and riffing -although vocally brilliant- are at times kinda disappointing to fans that may be expecting a close to the original rendition.....kinda like seeing the Beatles singing "Let it Be" with a latin beat...
alblablah I have seen Glenn live on many occasions and as i said in a previous post have heard him give fantastic renditions of Mistreated but this particular vocal workout though undoubtedly brilliant is not to my taste and not the way i like to hear Mistreated, its all a bit Mariah Carey or Beyonce for my taste! Ive never liked this side of Glenns work.BTW there is no need for the pathetic abuse mate just because i dont happen to agree with your opinion! what age are you 12??
Coverdale rules?? Can he sing higher than Glenn then? I think not, Coverdale, Gillan and others didn't look after their voices like Glenn has so now they suffer and can't do what they used too. Glenn is as good as ever in both range and power. See him live and see. I myself am a classically trained singer so, yes I am qualified to say this. They each have their own good/bad points but lets not debate who is/was just enjoy them for what they do and rock out together and in peace!!

the passage from 1:54 to 1:55 is sick as hell, never heard something like that from a human... LOL
If there's a god...and if he has a voice... it would be like this...
