The media gave legs to the Birthers, the media legitimized Sarah Palin, losing vice presidential candidates r usually never heard from again, the media gave legs to that idiot from Florida talking about he was going to burn Qurans, the media legitimized the Tea Party, imagine if the TP was a bunch of black ppl running around with all this anti gov. talk, the TP believes Sarah Palin should be prez., now they support Donald Trump and the media act as if these ppl rep the majority of Americans
Mainstream media needs to pull their tongue out of Obama’s ass. Then they need to be honest with the American people. And don’t care who the truth hurts right or left.
I hate it when so called independent media (like the young turks, etc) waste they're time covering the dinosaur media. Why aren't you covering information that isn't reported on CNN MSNBC or FOX -- they all suck by the way. Stop giving them publicity they do not deserve. Go out on the field and do your own reporting. REAL reporting.
It is easy to see that you carry Obamma's water. My question to you is since nothing changes between administrations why do you defend the endefencible?
I don't get why only one state out of forty-nine states had to keep kids in school for Obama's school adress. I mean, I remember parents freaking out about how they didn't want their kids listening to Obama, because they thought he was going to be a bad example. I didn't care about what the big deal was. Anyone remember waht I'm talking about?
cenk uygur -- why don't you put up a video that addresses what happened to Marty Marshall and his family and two friends? You're so excellent at trashing Caucasians, picking up where Ted Koppel left off using his Nightline show as a chainsaw to blame Caucasians for all the ills of the world.
You have no credibility with anyone that has more than a handful of brain cells, yet you are effective at getting loads of blacks and others to hate on Caucasians!
Yea, the media totally swift boats him, just like how they forgot about Wright after one speech, then attacked Palin as if she were a Nazi collaborator, you're right, the media hates Obama, they constantly run him down, that's why everyone watches MSNBC and Keith Olbermann and why Fox News is constantly behind in the ratings, because Fox News only runs him down. Thanks for calling out this injustice...
I'm saying that anything they've done to Obama is nothing to what they did to Palin. Obama didn't have many gaffes but look at Joe Biden, and what the media let's him get away with alot. When the media let's you get away with as much as this administration gets away with, crying about media bias is a very lame argument.
And call you commie and socialist and make groundless accusations that apparently are believed by people. I mean-- commie for introducing a public *option*? For *tax cuts*? I don't get the system you've got going there, really. I think Palin could *use* groundless accusations. It would make her detractors lose credibility.
I don't recall calling universal healthcare communist. Maybe Sean Hannity or Ann Coulter did, but I'm not them. I'm not really even a Palin supporter, but there is definately a group in the media who have to run her down for whatever reason.
I'm a Republican and even our party is split on her, I agree with the ideology, because she is a conservative, but I don't think she's ready to lead and alot of other people feel the same way. As far as her becoming president, she's going to have to get independent voters and I don't think she can do that.
Congratulations on your party ideology. Have you seen the latest TYT video on Republicans-- "Republican Manual On Dirty Tricks To Crush Healthcare Reform & Obama"? I mean, it's one thing to have an ideology, it's another to support a party like this. What's wrong with the public option, really?
Each side has dirty tricks, don't kid yourself friend, politics is all about that. We do it and so do Democrats, the difference is just in the details. The problem with the public options is similar to that of the post office mailing letters. If you have a letter to mail, why don't you go to UPS? Because the USPS is subsidized by the government and can afford to lose massive amounts of money, the same will be true with the public option, destroying many insurance companies, even ones you like
And as for the public option, if you don't like it, fine, don't use it. You think the public option is worse than oligopoly, which is what you're talking about? That's certainly not what Friedman wants. UPS has to *compete* with regular mail, or they and their rivals can just form a convenient oligopoly, make small chess moves against each other.
It doesn't work like that, this isn't a take it or leave it kind of thing, the public option will destroy many insurance companies. There are dozens of insurance companies out there, a government option will make private insurance only available to the rich and will reduce the number of insurance companies, I should know, economics is my major.
And I don't know about your country but in other places governments have learnt a lot from big companies about how to function and incentivise and monitor employees and assure efficiency.
Speaking from economics, governments will always be more inefficient than business as providing goods and services. There are exceptions, such as public goods, but insurance is not that. Governments may learn to do a decent job, but businesses will always do a better job, because they have to make a profit. Government on the other hand is built to lose money. What we need is more transparency in health care costs, and the ability to buy across state lines, that will lower the price.
Great, and of course you'll get companies to provide more solid coverage. Economics has nothing to say about politics. Neoclassical economics has been called the "art of the status quo"
And you see, what you say about transparency is exactly the point. That's government reform. It's been done elsewhere. It's been done in your country (certainly Bush and Cheney did a lot to work against this trend), for instance in many school systems. You have a right to transparency. Fight for it. But government at least doesn't have the excuse of the bottom line for *everything*.
I wouldn't say Obama is exactly transparent, he promised the American people a C-SPAN televised open door negotiation on healthcare reform, however when the debate was about to take place the doors suddenly closed and only lawmakers were allowed in. He also has czars, yes Bush had them, but Obama has more, and the czars can't be called in front of Congress to testify. He also promised no lobbyists, but he broken that rule around 15 times now. I'm just holding him to what he said...
Who do you think is creating these conditions? Republicans are! Precisely because they know they can't win in the situation of the C-SPAN. Lobbying, probably many politicians on both sides were screaming against. You've got to understand I'm not that for Obama, but there's such a thing as putting the blame where it doesn't belong. And god, you republicans are something frightening to people thinking about democracy everywhere.
No, Obama said he would air it on C-SPAN, so unless Republicans made him say that I don't see how they are involved in him lying. See, you've been indoctrinated, Republicans are not evil and neither are Democrats, it's just a difference of ideals, neither side is evil and both use the means they have to get ahead.
The same as the Democrats who actually fillibustered, or threatened to fillibuster alot of Bush's legislation during the last administration. To say only one party fillibusters or does it badly is to completely misunderstand the history of American politics.
The Republican filibuster is easily broken tho, so it doesn't mean anything. When seats are near 50-50 then it means something. Also, Obama has not tried to get Republican support on anything, he has just pushed a liberal agenda thru time and time again, but he said he'd be mroe bipartisan and actually get Republicans on board, but I've come to expect that from this president.
What would a non-liberal agenda be? Who's proposing good bills non-liberal agenda wise? The Republican filibuster is easily broken? So the Democrats should turn into Nazis and break the filibuster?
Well, that's great then, because they're passing laws that allow torture and other horrible things. Look, the point is this-- should the opposition party be opposing everything? Only if they have a sensible argument against! I mean, for God's sake, you're in government. Don't you have a sense of responsibility?
It's hard to define torture, saying here is the line really misses the point, I don't think waterboarding is torture, it sucks, but so does life sometimes, you can go way too far with what is and isn't torture, and Republicans do have a responsibility to people like me who are conservative and don't want a public option for healthcare.
The torture reports Cheney claimed would prove that torture works offer no proof that torture, as in physical as opposed to mental, has any greater success at extracting information-- in fact it tends to pollute the extracted data with false information.
The reports were not released in their entrirety. We did learn information of KSM after we waterboarded him that we didn't know before hand and the information was useful. Liberals say 'you didn't need to do that' but he wasn't talking and there was no sign he would talk. Torture up to a certain point does work, however, once you reach a certain pain level, the guy has already told you all he knows.
Yeah well, I guess our country with its long history of enlightened torture knows worse than yours. And 70 percent of your American people salute you.
I would say it's hard to judge unless you've experienced what this country went through on 9/11. I was a teenager at the time and I didn't get the magnitude of what was going on around me, but it definately changed how America sees the world. I would go further to say that even under Obama if it came down to torturing someone to death to stop something like that from happening again, the person would be tortured, as you use the term torture.
Sure, but the question is -- is it necessary at all? It's fantastic that you are in desperate fear mode and that makes you the greatest judge of how to conduct the affairs of a country that claims it knows best to all other countries.
By the way, as to torture's reliability, TYT put me on to an Op-Ed by the FBI interrogator for Abu Zubaydah. Freely available on the net: "My Tortured Decision" in the New York Times. It talks about the ineffectiveness of torture for extracting information, and how all the info supposedly extracted during torture was extracted before by regular interrogation methods.
It was a report from the CIA interrogators, lying on a report to the CIA I imagine could land you some prison time, if they can prove you knowingly lied. Given these facts, I'd say it's pretty credible. Nothing is 100 per cent in this world. The Bush administration said the CIA had proven Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, but we never found any. Obama said if we passed a 787 billion dollar stimulus the unemployment wouldn't go above 8 per cent, it's at 10 right now. Nothing is for sure
I agree totally with you. Except all the important info that they supposedly extracted from him, except KSM's random confessions to planning to bomb all the fashion capitals of the world, were already known. I've been looking around for the text of the report itself, as opposed to interpretations and reportings of what it said. Do you know where it can be found?
And by the way, I don't know what you're trying to get at with all the rest, but I agree wholeheartedly with the examples anyway. Obama did do a good seeming move yesterday, apparently, he's looking to give a number of incentives to small businesses.
And hell, even in our totalitarian country we do well enough without needing real physical torture. Sleep deprivation is difficult enough to tolerate. I guess waterboarding is more humane.
Look, your faith is very strong in Obama, I give you credit for that. Politics is a web of favors. I'm sure there was some entrapment probably responsible for it. Nobody's saying the Democrats are perfect, but the Republicans are quite amazing.
And health insurance isn't mail. It's a lot more important, and you don't want ruthlessness and a lack of regulation in this field. Which is what oligopoly will encourage.
There is actually too much regulation in this field, less regulation will lower costs, now states mandate insurance must be purchased in the same state you live, lowering that regulation will lower insurance.
More efficient regulation is the point, not no regulation. That's a different issue altogether. The reason the public option will make the poor weaker insurance firms lose out is that now people obviously have a better plan. The public option, among other things, plans to assure a greater amount of coverage than most health insurance companies will allow.
Obama said 'if you like your insurance you will be able to keep it' however if the government puts a small insurer out of business it will be very hard to be insured by a company that doesn't exist.
It won't go out of business immediately. And reform has to have some price. That's how it goes. If people push their governments for it, as they sensibly should do, I'm sure there could be a transition period where people can switch from one firm to another, at government subsidy. This would only be a short term cost. It's not the Reagan era.
However, that would mean that Obama lied, or at least mistated the truth, when he said if you like what you have then you can keep it, because that won't necessarily be the case. If seen government bureaucracy, and I don't like it, the massive bureaucracy that will be created for healthcare will be ridiculous. I would rather work on lowering the cost instead of putting people in Washington in charge of my healthcare.
Why would a massive bureaucracy be created for healthcare? Who needs a massive bureaucracy? I think you're blnkered by visions of '70s government. All the government needs to do is precisely imitate in structure a big company, and have similar controls on its employees.
I did not say that, we have legitimate concerns, you may watch Glenn Beck and think he speaks for all Republicans but he doesn't. You said Obama was being transparent, I was informing you of the lack of transparency. Name a bureaucracy that is small and functions well. My university is government run and going thru the student office is hellish, getting anything done will take you a minimum of a few hours and several trips to different buildings, and that's for a school of 40,000.
The university I'm at in the Netherlands is just as bad and it only has about 12,000 students. I cannot speak for Singapore, but western bureaucracies are inefficient to say the least.
Just how high in the satisfaction polls that surely exist for the Netherlands was this university you were at in Netherlands, by the way? My experience with British universities-- University of East Anglia-- has been like soldiers' experience with Halliburton employees. Dreamlike and wonderful, though short. By all accounts it is still good.
I'm not sure how high the poll was here, but alot of the people here are European, so they are used to waiting in long lines to get things done and having to go thru several offices, at least that's what I've heard from the people here. So they are already used to such problems a bureaucracy brings and just an everyday thing.
I wouldn't know about the Netherlands. My time in Britain was very efficient; my time in Singapore even more. And healthcare is still going to be handled by hospitals, by the same doctors, by the same everything. And it's the age of the internet. Universities always face pressure from nostalgic professors to be like the good ol' days. There's no long waiting lines for soup or anything.
Huh. Well, almost all places I know, they do that on the internet now. In fact I enrolled just today in all my lesson for next sem-- in a small town Australian university in the middle of nowhere. I'm in my rented room, and it took me five minutes.
My unversity in Singapore was also government run, and they're a pretty profitable operation, and tidy. The point is to find a balance between government and business, and when appropriate apply lessons from business to the government, learn from them. But you need government to provide basic services.
This guy has a point. The media uses their power to set the agenda in this country. Fox uses their platform to set a conservative agenda, while the rest attempt to set a liberal agenda. The only problem is Fox has higher ratings than most of the other channels, and not to mention way hotter chicks. Why are liberal chix so ugly? From The View to Rachel Maddow its a real yuckfest out there.
"...I see in the near future a crisis emerging that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands, and the Republic is destroyed."
The profanity that you, in your ignorance and depravity, have chosen to coin is spelled f-a-g-g-o-t. Got it? Are you familiar with the American coloquialism "numbskull"?
Oh, and which were the homosexuals who share responsibility for Obama's election? Those that uncritically reported the suggestion of Al Qaeda links to Iraq? The same that censored images of the abuses at Abu Ghraib? Those that mouth the Bush administration's hideous abuse of language, "enhanced interrogation techniques"?
Obama has always been treated badly by FOX news, nothing has changed since he got elected, which it should of because he's the godman PRESIDENT. Obama is in the white house because the PEOPLE voted him in - because everyone was tired of idotic republicans. Yeah you're right the Fox news media are a bunch of faggots =)
paddunk: "Republicans are racist"... Another stupid comment from you. That is like saying all blacks are niggers, which is untrue. The Republican party (I am an independant) just like the democRATS are walking US hand and hand towards the same destination...a one world government...just at a slightly different pace. People are people and you should know that. "He's a racist!" That is simply "knee jerk"- liberal textbook B.S. You are a fool and you are the racist. LOL...an idiot is loose in PA
Moz...tell the class. What real qualifications did Obama have & what makes him the man to be the leader of the free world? Look at the people in his cabinet..it reads like a who's who of the wallstreet goons who got this country in the mess we are now in. Never mind all the racist idiots he is placing into key positions. Again, what qualifications, other than being a black/brutha does Obama have? Also, why does he continue to spend millions to not show his birth certificate? (1.5 mill to date)
Obama is extending his NO Enforcement - Open Border Amnesty Policy to ObamaCare. Just cross the border and enter a government clinic and you can get free health care paid for by U.S. taxpayers. What a country! Obama is already letting 3.6 million illegal aliens in the country every year and we get to pay for the health care. Vote these elitest out in 2010!! DemocRATS are destroying America with their socialist agenda. Elitest must go!!
Faux Noose is doing nothing but SELLING republicant talking points. Progressives should boycott Faux's sponsors until they cease this activity. The Dems needed to hit back hard on all those phony repuglicant "issues" when bush was in office. Now they need to IGNORE these assinine arguments AND START MAKING HEADLINES OF THEIR OWN!!!!
THEY LET THE REPUGS DRIVE THE ISSUES AND THE NEWS CYCLES!!!
Left and Right is for old farts people now know that people can have an array varying opinions and not have to bare a political title. All politicians regardless of party lines now need to be held accountable for there actions instead of their false theme. It's over, people are becoming aware and the old game won't cut it anymore we do not pledge an oath to parties and actors. END THE WARS
It's clear now that the right will lie, twist the truth and do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING to deny Obama (and by extension the country) success. All of these fake outrages by the right are another form of Swiftboating. It's what they do, it all starts with Drudge and Fox and then the MSM picks it up because they are followers. So much for our "liberal" media!
bsn: you ignorant product of too much Oprah and "the koolaid", stop ranting. The democrats and their socialist agenda are destroying America. Conservatives are hypocritical? I think you better stop and think about all the lies Obama has been caught in, the scum in his cabinet, the racist he puts on the Supreme court, and the contempt he has for America. Just look around at what is going on around you. You see jobs, economy improving, illegals being deported, war ending, crooked politicians?
Socialist how. Give me one example. Cons are hypocrites. That senator who got caught cheating on his wife with an argentina anchor? Won because of his stand in family values. Astroturf mobs claiming government run healthcare is bad and claiming medicare is a good idea. I think you better take a good long look at what you are defending. I dont watch Oprah and I Koolaid's taste. Its not a rant its the truth, and the sad fact is no matter how much truth I show you reps are oblivious to them.
bsn aka: bsman. "socialist how" R: The vast expansion of government (bank bailouts, car company etc).."Cheating on his wife" R:You think Republicans are less human or are the only ones that make mistakes? LOL..look in the mirror, recall Monica, Mcgrevy etc, etc.? "Astroturf.." R: My gosh man, can you be any dumber? Those people at the rally's are avg people..ME! No one sent US. We see this plan for what it is..a huge mistake for America. Wake up! Obama is a liar and all his minions are elitest.
padunk: Before you blindly follow your beloved domocRATS, I'd like you to ponder what our response should have been after 911? Albeit, I believe war is a waste of money but killing radicals who have striked the US is not...our response should have been swifter and more deadly. As for your hatred of Bush, it is your right to disagree with his policy, but as far as killing soldiers, your comment is idiotic. War is war..people die. It is a shame and my heart and prayers go to the dead's families.
fuck your 4000, he killed 2 MILLION in Iraq!!! and displaced 5 MILLION iraqi!!!
US lunatics love to use your weapons. Americans act like the Middle East is very dangerous with kids holding AK, where in fact i found out americans are allowed legally to own a GUN!!! WAT DA FUCK!! that is crazy!! in da arab world, only army and police are allowed to touch weapons
'Swiftboating' is what cons do. they did it to Kerry. They did it to McCain (possible Manchurian Candidate). All the while, their heroes (Bush, Cheney, Limbaugh, Beck, O'Reilly) dodged combat or military service yet are perceived as the true fighters. It's typical republican strategy, take your opponents strength, and make it a weakness while ignoring your own problems.
Yes, swiftboating, telling the truth about leftist candidates, must be stop at all cost. We must believe everything that dribbles from these leftist drones. WE MUST STOP THE CONS FROM EXPOSING who we really are.
How dare, BECK TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT OUR DEMI-GOD VAN JONES to the unwashed, BLASPHEMER, I say. BECK must be STOPPED.
You call the 'Birther movement' and 'children hypnosis' the 'truth'.
I think that's his original point; not that people different opinions, but that stupid people draw their opinions as fact and should be less accredited when doing so.
At least from major media outlets. Cause it causes people to get angry over shit they don't understand while the world points and laughs as politicians manipulate colleges and the people, and the media buys into it, and nothing get's done.
I was referring to theyoungturds' use of the term swiftboating. Since you were only 16-17 since the term was invented I'll catch you up on it's usage.
The democrats and their gobbers in the GCM use it to mean; the evil attempt by their political opponents to discredit a corrupt/lying democrat politician by telling the truth about them. ie, Democrat presidential hopeful JFKerry was swiftboated by the truth of other Swift boat personnel who were there.
The problem is that the main stream media has been usurped by members of one faction in the national debate. Something not foreseen by those who created the laws on Freedom of the Press. They didn't think the press would one day use that freedom to tell constant lies.
Freedom of the Press laws say nothing about honesty, or integrity, or honorably behavior.
Any political system can work with honorable people in authority, without them, no system can work.
i wish he were a super far left prez...no healthcare reform, war on 3 fronts...yeah a real lefty. the wars will satisfy the conservative thirst for the muslims blood and oil. liberal news media? give me a break.
Never mind a different planet. This guy lives in a complete different alternative universe. Obama is the most left wing president ever and he has done things to this country that have taken the nation as far to the left as it has ever been. The media is 90% liberal and he still thinks that's not good enough. It's like listening Castro lecturing Stalin for not being communist enough...I guess that's why they are called the loony left...
What nonsense? As idiotic as Fox New is..they DID say his aproval ratings were falling faster than ALL BUT TWO Presidents, which would still be concerning to me if I were Obama--someone who came in office with aroun 70+ approval ratings. Cenk completely ignored that.
The only way the public option will be passed is if people start calling in to the White House and voicing their support for the public option and warning against President Obama dropping it. Call in to the White House and make your voice heard, every call counts. White House comment line: 202-456-1111.
That I can agree with - how to help the president - I would rather he had said - make "suggestions" - cause that seems to be what we are doing anyway. But if it helps todays student stay in school then by all means make those "suggestions" And no we should not put all our faith in one man - after all he is only human.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
news flash dudes, the liberal media controls almost all the networks and newspapers. FOX is one station. how much damage can one station really do? also, theres nothing wrong with obama encouraging children to get an education, its what he has them doing AFTER the speech is the problem. writing essays of how they can help obama? how about essays on how they can help America? why put so much faith in one man?
That I can agree with - how to help the president - I would rather he had said - make "suggestions" - cause that seems to be what we are doing anyway. But if it helps todays student stay in school then by all means make those "suggestions" And no we should not put all our faith in one man - after all he is only human.
because its good to teach children that even if your in opposition to something, you can still work together and find a compromise, even help each other. imagine that instead of toxifying thier perception of people they dissagree with as some dehumanized evil anti-christ. thats how the oligarchy devides and conquers.
The Republican Party is NOT racist, they're just a bunch of insecure douchebags with penis-envy. They can't satisfy their women anymore so they lash out at those in power.
FOX did talk about Bush's low approval ratings. And what i seen in this video is Megyn Kelly being fair to Obama by saying that past Republicans did this same thing and no one raised a claim of indoctrination. This is why the Young Turks will never make it big on cable tv or the radio. And Obama IS the 3rd least popular President since WWII at this point in time in his presidency. So his approval ratings are pretty damn low buddy.
Why are we surprised at this reaction by conservatives? They're afraid of EVERYTHING.
They make up all kinds of scenarios to justify their hatred, bigotry, and actions, & opposition to progress.
The war in Iraq, the war against terrorism, torturing prisoners, & now, their opposition to health care reform. All their actions are initiated from some unfounded fear.
So we should not be surprised that they "fear" the president will "indoctrinate" the kids.
I guess there will always be people in this country that no matter how positive life is going, they will look for the negative. Think back to when Bill Clinton was in office. Conservatives could find nothing to be scared about , so they decide to jump on Bill for getting his pecker sucked on in the oval office.
If that was the biggest thing this country had to worry about in 90's, I'd say bring back the 90's, because the 2000's up to now totally sucks.
Personal the more the conservatives attack obama the more i like him. They did the same thing with bill clinton, and yea clinton wasnt the best president ever. but when he was in office people had jobs, money, and we were at peace. lets just hope obama's not a sucker for blow jobs
Things were pretty much chill when Bill was in office. It seems that when Dubya came into office, people and by large this country has gotten more meaner. Maybe it's the fact that we have the internet and 24 hr cable news channels that overload us with war, terrorism, hatred and anger.
Life's just not so fun anymore, even with Obama in office. I am waiting for the good times to come back...
There isn't anything wrong with the president inspiring our youth. Sadly though the kids who would probably benefit the most will not be allowed to see it.
Anyone who has questions regarding the public option may be able to find the answers in the comment section of my profile. I have a wide variety of resources and information including the ez to read version of the bill and several ways in which you can become more involved.
indeed, when is enough, enough. obama is in the gutter right now because of health care issue. how the fuck is obama telling kids stay in school and make a list of goals some sort of indoctrination by obama lmao. fox news is a fucking circus now and glenbeck is the ring leader
Lame but true! I have no problem with him being black nor do I have a problem with the President talking to school kids but I do have problems with his polices. To talk to kids in general is great , but to use it as a policy pushing that is what I disagree with and that was what he was tring to do untill he change it. To call this racism is crazy!!
But he's not using it as policy pushing. Again, stick with reality. What is actually happening, not what could happen, but what it actually occuring and be specific. Otherwise you'll drive yourself and us all quite insane, as has already happened with Glen Beck.
Then why are conservatives so pissed off about this when their hero, Reagan shamelessly promoted his philosophy on taxes in a similar speech to school children? Obama's speech does not even talk policy, only about staying in school and getting good grades. If you actually took time to read the summary of the speech before coming to a quick judgement, you would have known that. Conservatives hate Obama so much nowadays that they are willing to invent controversies like this. Unbelieveable!
Obama said the stimulus would immediately turn around the unemployment rate. But instead it skyrocketed to 8,9, and almost 10% today. There are 3 million fewer jobs today than when Obama first took office.
Is this the republicans discrediting Obama, or Obama discrediting himself?
Obama's poll numbers fall violently to below 50% as he pushes government health care schemes Americans do not want.
Is that Republicans discrediting Obama, or Obama discrediting himself?
Please cancel your show.

Oranje101 2 years ago
No, fox isn't constantly beat in the ratings. That was made up, just like 90% of the news on fox LOL

Oranje101 2 years ago
how do Palin's obvious mental handicaps relate to Obama's indoctrination of children?
rajasmasala 2 years ago
I'm saying that anything they've done to Obama is nothing to what they did to Palin. Obama didn't have many gaffes but look at Joe Biden, and what the media let's him get away with alot. When the media let's you get away with as much as this administration gets away with, crying about media bias is a very lame argument.
Oranje101 2 years ago
great, then the logical thing to do is to complain about what Biden is getting away with.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
No, the logical thing to do is cry about the media when they don't give you coverage you like 100 per cent of the time like Obama does nowadays.
Oranje101 2 years ago
And call you commie and socialist and make groundless accusations that apparently are believed by people. I mean-- commie for introducing a public *option*? For *tax cuts*? I don't get the system you've got going there, really. I think Palin could *use* groundless accusations. It would make her detractors lose credibility.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
I don't recall calling universal healthcare communist. Maybe Sean Hannity or Ann Coulter did, but I'm not them. I'm not really even a Palin supporter, but there is definately a group in the media who have to run her down for whatever reason.
Oranje101 2 years ago
They're doing a good job of keeping the Palin presidential campaign alive, I think. Go Palin! Go America!
rajasmasala 2 years ago
I'm a Republican and even our party is split on her, I agree with the ideology, because she is a conservative, but I don't think she's ready to lead and alot of other people feel the same way. As far as her becoming president, she's going to have to get independent voters and I don't think she can do that.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Congratulations on your party ideology. Have you seen the latest TYT video on Republicans-- "Republican Manual On Dirty Tricks To Crush Healthcare Reform & Obama"? I mean, it's one thing to have an ideology, it's another to support a party like this. What's wrong with the public option, really?
rajasmasala 2 years ago
Each side has dirty tricks, don't kid yourself friend, politics is all about that. We do it and so do Democrats, the difference is just in the details. The problem with the public options is similar to that of the post office mailing letters. If you have a letter to mail, why don't you go to UPS? Because the USPS is subsidized by the government and can afford to lose massive amounts of money, the same will be true with the public option, destroying many insurance companies, even ones you like
Oranje101 2 years ago
Sure, how do the Democrats play dirty with the Republicans?
rajasmasala 2 years ago
And as for the public option, if you don't like it, fine, don't use it. You think the public option is worse than oligopoly, which is what you're talking about? That's certainly not what Friedman wants. UPS has to *compete* with regular mail, or they and their rivals can just form a convenient oligopoly, make small chess moves against each other.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
It doesn't work like that, this isn't a take it or leave it kind of thing, the public option will destroy many insurance companies. There are dozens of insurance companies out there, a government option will make private insurance only available to the rich and will reduce the number of insurance companies, I should know, economics is my major.
Oranje101 2 years ago
And I don't know about your country but in other places governments have learnt a lot from big companies about how to function and incentivise and monitor employees and assure efficiency.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
Speaking from economics, governments will always be more inefficient than business as providing goods and services. There are exceptions, such as public goods, but insurance is not that. Governments may learn to do a decent job, but businesses will always do a better job, because they have to make a profit. Government on the other hand is built to lose money. What we need is more transparency in health care costs, and the ability to buy across state lines, that will lower the price.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Great, and of course you'll get companies to provide more solid coverage. Economics has nothing to say about politics. Neoclassical economics has been called the "art of the status quo"
rajasmasala 2 years ago
And you see, what you say about transparency is exactly the point. That's government reform. It's been done elsewhere. It's been done in your country (certainly Bush and Cheney did a lot to work against this trend), for instance in many school systems. You have a right to transparency. Fight for it. But government at least doesn't have the excuse of the bottom line for *everything*.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
I wouldn't say Obama is exactly transparent, he promised the American people a C-SPAN televised open door negotiation on healthcare reform, however when the debate was about to take place the doors suddenly closed and only lawmakers were allowed in. He also has czars, yes Bush had them, but Obama has more, and the czars can't be called in front of Congress to testify. He also promised no lobbyists, but he broken that rule around 15 times now. I'm just holding him to what he said...
Oranje101 2 years ago
Who do you think is creating these conditions? Republicans are! Precisely because they know they can't win in the situation of the C-SPAN. Lobbying, probably many politicians on both sides were screaming against. You've got to understand I'm not that for Obama, but there's such a thing as putting the blame where it doesn't belong. And god, you republicans are something frightening to people thinking about democracy everywhere.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
No, Obama said he would air it on C-SPAN, so unless Republicans made him say that I don't see how they are involved in him lying. See, you've been indoctrinated, Republicans are not evil and neither are Democrats, it's just a difference of ideals, neither side is evil and both use the means they have to get ahead.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Ok, let's just clear this now. What's with the Republican manual on guerilla filibustering?
rajasmasala 2 years ago
The same as the Democrats who actually fillibustered, or threatened to fillibuster alot of Bush's legislation during the last administration. To say only one party fillibusters or does it badly is to completely misunderstand the history of American politics.
Oranje101 2 years ago
This year was the all-time record for filibustering. I guess Obama must be passing horrendous legislation that should never be passed.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
The Republican filibuster is easily broken tho, so it doesn't mean anything. When seats are near 50-50 then it means something. Also, Obama has not tried to get Republican support on anything, he has just pushed a liberal agenda thru time and time again, but he said he'd be mroe bipartisan and actually get Republicans on board, but I've come to expect that from this president.
Oranje101 2 years ago
What would a non-liberal agenda be? Who's proposing good bills non-liberal agenda wise? The Republican filibuster is easily broken? So the Democrats should turn into Nazis and break the filibuster?
rajasmasala 2 years ago
That's what they've done, they've broken every filibuster attempt because they have the 60 votes to do it with.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Well, that's great then, because they're passing laws that allow torture and other horrible things. Look, the point is this-- should the opposition party be opposing everything? Only if they have a sensible argument against! I mean, for God's sake, you're in government. Don't you have a sense of responsibility?
rajasmasala 2 years ago
It's hard to define torture, saying here is the line really misses the point, I don't think waterboarding is torture, it sucks, but so does life sometimes, you can go way too far with what is and isn't torture, and Republicans do have a responsibility to people like me who are conservative and don't want a public option for healthcare.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Yup, they're doing a god job on the 70 percent of the poplation that do.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
good*, population*
rajasmasala 2 years ago
The torture reports Cheney claimed would prove that torture works offer no proof that torture, as in physical as opposed to mental, has any greater success at extracting information-- in fact it tends to pollute the extracted data with false information.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
The reports were not released in their entrirety. We did learn information of KSM after we waterboarded him that we didn't know before hand and the information was useful. Liberals say 'you didn't need to do that' but he wasn't talking and there was no sign he would talk. Torture up to a certain point does work, however, once you reach a certain pain level, the guy has already told you all he knows.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Yeah well, I guess our country with its long history of enlightened torture knows worse than yours. And 70 percent of your American people salute you.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
I would say it's hard to judge unless you've experienced what this country went through on 9/11. I was a teenager at the time and I didn't get the magnitude of what was going on around me, but it definately changed how America sees the world. I would go further to say that even under Obama if it came down to torturing someone to death to stop something like that from happening again, the person would be tortured, as you use the term torture.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Sure, but the question is -- is it necessary at all? It's fantastic that you are in desperate fear mode and that makes you the greatest judge of how to conduct the affairs of a country that claims it knows best to all other countries.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
sorry, that "you" wasn't meant to be personal. It was meant to be the part of the US as a whole that was controlling legislation at that point.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
government is about sensible legislation, not trigger reactions.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
By the way, as to torture's reliability, TYT put me on to an Op-Ed by the FBI interrogator for Abu Zubaydah. Freely available on the net: "My Tortured Decision" in the New York Times. It talks about the ineffectiveness of torture for extracting information, and how all the info supposedly extracted during torture was extracted before by regular interrogation methods.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
That's not what the report on KSM said though, it said after water boarding he gave more information.
Oranje101 2 years ago
And it is obviously perfectly credible.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
It was a report from the CIA interrogators, lying on a report to the CIA I imagine could land you some prison time, if they can prove you knowingly lied. Given these facts, I'd say it's pretty credible. Nothing is 100 per cent in this world. The Bush administration said the CIA had proven Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, but we never found any. Obama said if we passed a 787 billion dollar stimulus the unemployment wouldn't go above 8 per cent, it's at 10 right now. Nothing is for sure
Oranje101 2 years ago
I agree totally with you. Except all the important info that they supposedly extracted from him, except KSM's random confessions to planning to bomb all the fashion capitals of the world, were already known. I've been looking around for the text of the report itself, as opposed to interpretations and reportings of what it said. Do you know where it can be found?
rajasmasala 2 years ago
And by the way, I don't know what you're trying to get at with all the rest, but I agree wholeheartedly with the examples anyway. Obama did do a good seeming move yesterday, apparently, he's looking to give a number of incentives to small businesses.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
And hell, even in our totalitarian country we do well enough without needing real physical torture. Sleep deprivation is difficult enough to tolerate. I guess waterboarding is more humane.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
Look, your faith is very strong in Obama, I give you credit for that. Politics is a web of favors. I'm sure there was some entrapment probably responsible for it. Nobody's saying the Democrats are perfect, but the Republicans are quite amazing.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
And health insurance isn't mail. It's a lot more important, and you don't want ruthlessness and a lack of regulation in this field. Which is what oligopoly will encourage.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
There is actually too much regulation in this field, less regulation will lower costs, now states mandate insurance must be purchased in the same state you live, lowering that regulation will lower insurance.
Oranje101 2 years ago
More efficient regulation is the point, not no regulation. That's a different issue altogether. The reason the public option will make the poor weaker insurance firms lose out is that now people obviously have a better plan. The public option, among other things, plans to assure a greater amount of coverage than most health insurance companies will allow.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
Obama said 'if you like your insurance you will be able to keep it' however if the government puts a small insurer out of business it will be very hard to be insured by a company that doesn't exist.
Oranje101 2 years ago
It won't go out of business immediately. And reform has to have some price. That's how it goes. If people push their governments for it, as they sensibly should do, I'm sure there could be a transition period where people can switch from one firm to another, at government subsidy. This would only be a short term cost. It's not the Reagan era.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
However, that would mean that Obama lied, or at least mistated the truth, when he said if you like what you have then you can keep it, because that won't necessarily be the case. If seen government bureaucracy, and I don't like it, the massive bureaucracy that will be created for healthcare will be ridiculous. I would rather work on lowering the cost instead of putting people in Washington in charge of my healthcare.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Why would a massive bureaucracy be created for healthcare? Who needs a massive bureaucracy? I think you're blnkered by visions of '70s government. All the government needs to do is precisely imitate in structure a big company, and have similar controls on its employees.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
And in fact it can be even smaller, because it can have certain departments be smaller, like marketing. And you don't need to go around selling it.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
and great, Obama uttered a half-truth. He's a commie. Republicans are totally justified in preventing government from functioning
rajasmasala 2 years ago
I did not say that, we have legitimate concerns, you may watch Glenn Beck and think he speaks for all Republicans but he doesn't. You said Obama was being transparent, I was informing you of the lack of transparency. Name a bureaucracy that is small and functions well. My university is government run and going thru the student office is hellish, getting anything done will take you a minimum of a few hours and several trips to different buildings, and that's for a school of 40,000.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Your university is of courser the world. Come to Singapore.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
The university I'm at in the Netherlands is just as bad and it only has about 12,000 students. I cannot speak for Singapore, but western bureaucracies are inefficient to say the least.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Just how high in the satisfaction polls that surely exist for the Netherlands was this university you were at in Netherlands, by the way? My experience with British universities-- University of East Anglia-- has been like soldiers' experience with Halliburton employees. Dreamlike and wonderful, though short. By all accounts it is still good.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
I'm not sure how high the poll was here, but alot of the people here are European, so they are used to waiting in long lines to get things done and having to go thru several offices, at least that's what I've heard from the people here. So they are already used to such problems a bureaucracy brings and just an everyday thing.
Oranje101 2 years ago
I wouldn't know about the Netherlands. My time in Britain was very efficient; my time in Singapore even more. And healthcare is still going to be handled by hospitals, by the same doctors, by the same everything. And it's the age of the internet. Universities always face pressure from nostalgic professors to be like the good ol' days. There's no long waiting lines for soup or anything.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
I wasn't waiting around for food, I was trying to do administrative things, like sign up for certain classes or cancel classes.
Oranje101 2 years ago
Huh. Well, almost all places I know, they do that on the internet now. In fact I enrolled just today in all my lesson for next sem-- in a small town Australian university in the middle of nowhere. I'm in my rented room, and it took me five minutes.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
My unversity in Singapore was also government run, and they're a pretty profitable operation, and tidy. The point is to find a balance between government and business, and when appropriate apply lessons from business to the government, learn from them. But you need government to provide basic services.
rajasmasala 2 years ago
Sorry, Reagan, I meant Nixon.

The problem is that the main stream media has been usurped by members of one faction in the national debate. Something not foreseen by those who created the laws on Freedom of the Press. They didn't think the press would one day use that freedom to tell constant lies.

White House comment line: 202-456-1111.

omfg FOX is defending the president speaking to kids?
Truly the apocalypse is upon us ;)
Saying Obama is somehow a threat to youth makes the birthers and death panelers seem rational by comparison.
Anyone who keeps their kids home from school and doesn't have a doctor note, that should be treated as an unexcused absence.
Yet conservatives support freaks like that guy who sent his kids to school with "Islam is of the devil" shirts. Apparently that's not a harm to kids.

That I can agree with - how to help the president - I would rather he had said - make "suggestions" - cause that seems to be what we are doing anyway. But if it helps todays student stay in school then by all means make those "suggestions" And no we should not put all our faith in one man - after all he is only human.

The media covers everything as if it's 50/50, when only a handful of retards are actually fighting for an outrageous accusation.
I know someone who thinks Obama is a space alien. Perhaps we should have him debate a democrat on CNN.

news flash dudes, the liberal media controls almost all the networks and newspapers. FOX is one station. how much damage can one station really do? also, theres nothing wrong with obama encouraging children to get an education, its what he has them doing AFTER the speech is the problem. writing essays of how they can help obama? how about essays on how they can help America? why put so much faith in one man?
mlife005 2 years ago
Well, when FOX has the most ratings (unfortunately, MSNBC forever!), they are misinforming and spinning to a large audience.

because its good to teach children that even if your in opposition to something, you can still work together and find a compromise, even help each other. imagine that instead of toxifying thier perception of people they dissagree with as some dehumanized evil anti-christ. thats how the oligarchy devides and conquers.

Obama should be able to talk to the kids, opponens shouldn't make a big deal out of this one.
He'll use the race card.
He's not black he's pinko.

Personal the more the conservatives attack obama the more i like him. They did the same thing with bill clinton, and yea clinton wasnt the best president ever. but when he was in office people had jobs, money, and we were at peace. lets just hope obama's not a sucker for blow jobs
wessiderider187 2 years ago 2
Things were pretty much chill when Bill was in office. It seems that when Dubya came into office, people and by large this country has gotten more meaner. Maybe it's the fact that we have the internet and 24 hr cable news channels that overload us with war, terrorism, hatred and anger.
Life's just not so fun anymore, even with Obama in office. I am waiting for the good times to come back...

There isn't anything wrong with the president inspiring our youth. Sadly though the kids who would probably benefit the most will not be allowed to see it.

Lame but true! I have no problem with him being black nor do I have a problem with the President talking to school kids but I do have problems with his polices. To talk to kids in general is great , but to use it as a policy pushing that is what I disagree with and that was what he was tring to do untill he change it. To call this racism is crazy!!
ekjohndeer 2 years ago
