I tried normal guitar but I aint good enough but my mates suggested bass,

Also, I dont have a bass yet, still my acustic, I know palying it is nothing close to palying bass but would using the top four strings be alright practice for gettin ready to use a bass?

Playing an acoustic guitar won't make you ready for a bass except for "warming up your fretting hand" ( your left) because a bass guitar have thicker and heavyer strings. When starting playing an instrument make sure you practice in th right way, practicing in a bad position/way will eventually make your overall bass technique bad.

true youll only get your left hand ready for anything... but for the time being pick up a bass at like sam ash or guitar center and possibly a best buy music store and practice up with your fingers or pick is ok cause its almost the same only on octave lower and its only the EADG strings depending on the bass you pick up

Not really. Real bassists use their fingers, finger plucking on guitar and bass is entirely different.
