@batmanhorse as i said, windows 8 has been in development since 2009, pre-dating ipad by abit over a year. if this turns out to be what i think it is. it will shock me to no end that MS has innovated and essentially out maneuvered its competition. the new "home" screen is powered by HTML/CSS/Javascript and will be able to access C-like resources with an API. a windows x86 powered tablet? yes please. if (and only if) they get this right. the ramifications will be staggering.

I'm not so sure about win 8. Why would I need to have that magazine style interface on my 22' no touch display? It makes sense on tablets, but it's useless on ordinary displays. There are so many opportunities to improve on win 8 and they went completely wrong way... I hope desktop and other features will be improved enough to justify the mistake with metro.

This is a massive market which Microsoft could potentially dominate. A tablet running a core i5 CPU is phenomenal. Currently i have a core i3 in my notebook which is ample for me but could easily be replaced by a samsung tablet. Coupled with a keyboard and mouse, i would gladly switch over to the tablet.

The huge advantage of Win 8 especially for developers is that they have a full OS, not mobile platform. Developers can develop and test on one platform, i.e. switch between full OS and metro.

This has positives but what about current users that have to relearn the interface all over again. There does not seem to be a way for older users who are not used to newer technologies , to revert to a standard desktop "look".
