  • Hahaha...one Internationally known culinary item of Indonesia, yet largely unknown to most Indonesian, is the "Balinese Babi Guling" or Balinese Roast Pork". It is well known around the world, yet most Indonesian refused to consume it as most Indonesians are Moslem.

  • @culles87 last time i checked about 85 % indonesian are moslem, don't say baseless thing, i'm indonesian btw ...

  • Comment removed

  • Yes.

  • hey that guy in a red shirt is actor if I'm not mistaken , i mean he appeared on indonesian tv

  • its 60 percent of indonesian Muslim not 90 percent. some 25 percent is Christian and 15 percent is the rest (Hindu, Budha, etc) I'm Indonesian by the way. :D

almost forgot, there's a more than 100 kind of sambal and we really love hot food ;)

  • @culles87 When did that happen? As far as I've known the Christian population has always hovered around the 10% mark. I'm a Catholic (originally from Malang) so this is a bit of a surprise for me.

  • Yez!!!

  • i am indonesian and i don't eat pork....

but bourdain's reaction towards that suckling pig make me proud.. it's doesn't matter if i cant eat the pork.. there is still many kind of unique and tasty food around indonesia!!!

there is also balinese roast duck that very tasty!!! just thinking about it make me droll.. this is bad.. i'm fasting today -_-

  • The skin is way the BEST!!!!!!! I can taste it in my mouth already!!

  • "There's something about nature, there's always an incline involved". That's very philosophical.

  • Went to Bali last year, the roasted pork is amazing!

  • Didn't he eat some pork in Puerto Rico and said it was the best ever? Also I think the show was after this one as well. Having said that, this pork looks unbelievable!!

  • @PUNKem733 He went through a list of places he's tried pig at around the 3:50 mark and he mentioned Puerto Rico so I guess the Balinese Pig is the new best :)

I miss Indonesia!! tony needs to go back and go to MANADO next!

  • haha, i really like the part when he had the first bite of the roast pork, the background music and the slow motion as he opened his eyes.. that's just soooo hillarious!!

  • Cebu Lechon and baliniese roast pork is up on Tony's list.

  • @3:13 funny Tony! lol

  • balinese roast pork is the #1 best roast pork in the world! enough said.

  • ibu oka

  • are there any Indonesians here that can help me live in Indonesia? Im an American Muslim living in Egypt with my wife and we want to move to Indonesia insha'Allah.

  • @LIVfor1 why?

  • @kaikahitonari -why not? it has the biggest Muslim population in the world, it has amazing food, friendly people and is just straight up beautiful. i come from NY and im tired of the big cities, i want woods, forests, rivers and just nature, insha'Allah

  • @LIVfor1 Hey, I can help you. I live in the US, but I have family and friends in Indonesia

  • @LIVfor1 maybe Indonesia isnt as good as America.. even Jakarta is full of trash i can tell.. the best jakarta is in South Jakarta.. so I suggest you live there.. but 1 thing you cant find in any other country is the people.. they are sooo kind and welcome.. you will find peace and low living cost here.. so have fun! salam alaykum

  • That pig is too big. In Segovia and Arévalo, Spain, there is a delicious dish called "cochinillo" that means "little pig". Search "cochinillo segovia spain" and you´ll meet the healthiest meat you can find. Rico rico.

  • I wish I wasn't born muslim!

    Ibu Oka, here I come!

  • Ibu Oka RULES, she's so famous!! and i don't even eat pork..

  • ooo god .....

  • "New york.. new york... lol"

  • I have found out that the music at 6:10 is a cover from "Forbidden Colours".

However I wasn't able to find this particular one yet because of the mass of horrible trash-techno "remixes".

  • Does anyone know the music that starts at 6:10?

  • Hell yeah Ibu Oka is the bomb!!!

  • IBU OKAAAA!!!!!!

  • the pork.. ohhh *drooolllll*

  • Jamie Aditya used to be Southeast Asia's MTV VJ

  • But hindus are not allowed to eat meat!!

  • @Masoud5991 thats on weekends

  • I'm convinced that Cantonese style roasted pork is the best in the world. I've never been to Bali, and Ibu Oka in particular... yet. I gotta settle this right now!

  • @chefkoo spit roast pig skin is similar to teochew style pork skin... no bubbles...in this case...babi gulung is teochew style pork skin with more flavour...due to the herbs and spices.... if u like southeast asian flavours (heaps of chilli, ginger, lemon grass, coconut, candle nuts, key limes etc) u will like this alot

  • @peanutking242 You don't need to tell me that. I KNOW I'll love this. Any pork skin with a crunch like that, I know I'll love!!!. It's really strange because I immediately assume that skin that isn't bubbly will be tough and hard, but this video has changed my mind.

  • I can't wait to go to Bali in August and go to Ibu Oka and eat babi guling until I loose consciousness.

  • BABI GULING! Shit i miss the stuff

  • yes......yes...yes....yes....lol

  • My favorite episode as well. I NEED to vacation on the river like that in Indonesia after watching this episode

  • i'm gonna go all out and assume u're a foreigner? (or 'bule' if you've watched the entire thing). I can't comment on the taste and flavour, but abt the tummy problems, thats a common thing in Indo, period. I also hv friends who, after staying overseas for awhile, developed weak stomachs.

Tip for next trip : always bring meds :)

  • I think bebek betutu is much more delicious than bebek bengil... too bad Tony didn't try it... It seems he didn't meet the right persons to show him the right places to find Indonesia's most delicious food...

  • @andyken:

I've tried both: Filipino's and Ibu Oka's roast pork.. for me Ibu Oka's tastes a lot ... believe me... Bourdain's right about Indonesian magic herbes and spices...

  • i think he should stay in Bali

  • Do you people realize? Bourdain even ordered two portions of Ibu Oka's roast pig!

  • The way Bourdain says about Bali's suckling pig is the best in the world is different from when he said about the one in the Philippines. It's obvious that here in Bali he's very serious, while in the Philippines it's more like politeness. I have no doubt that Filipino's roast pig is also good in its own way, but it can't beat Ibu Oka's. Anyway, he can't say that Bali roast pig is better than the Filipino's in front of the Philippines people, can he?

  • It'd be bad for ratings

  • @petersandwich how did you know that? but surely it look tasty and yummy

  • lol "so shiney i look like tyler florence" hahaha

  • "A lizard on the roof laid a turd on my papaya!"

Bourdain: "Ah, it's good protein for ya"

    lmfao best line ever

  • 3:10 listen to that crunch... oh baby that's what it's all about

  • OH FFS!!! how the hell does a man get a job where they go around the world, eat the best food i nthe world and get payed to do it?!!!

  • 5:36 that was random XD

  • yes... yes... yes. sounds like borat

  • wow! Jamie's also on the show!

Check his Discovery Channel show: Sync' or Swim!

  • Does anyone agree that the pork guy Tony eats with sounds a bit like Borat the first 2 times he says 'yes'?

  • Yesss!!!

  • Love the way he said "yes" :D

  • i love indonesia

  • the water is obviously fall...LOL !

  • wow is that dirty duck....bebek bengil.......thats one good duck

go back for long holiday soon to paradise indonesia

  • Don't be such a whiner....

  • i have freedom to say anything i like !!!

  • Who stopped you from saying "anything you like"? Nobody. I'm just saying what I think that you whine too much (I saw similar comment of yours in another video). Ok, holland is very cold, but you should knew it already (before deciding to go there), right? So, why are you complaining? I didn't thumb you down. Some other people did, and I can understand why.

  • @rakabali78

ok ok, someone is having period here....

i'm back to Indonesia begin next year leaving this poor country !!

  • @guptascabskin I've just come back from Bali and tried Babi Guling......it is divine....the best roast pork you'll ever eat!! And....that was the same place I ate it at......in Ubud.

  • Bali was amazing, I went there in june on my usual trips to indonesia. first time, and it was GORGEOUS. kecak dance, BEAUTIFUL beaches, hindu temples, luwak coffee... ahh

  • the pig guy said "yeah" so funny. tony was like askin questions and he was all like "yeah"

  • Bali -- mellowing effect. I like it!!!

  • BALI!!!! my dream place to retire. :D

  • bali isn't the only province in indonesia that has speciality with food made from pig. try manadonese food, for example.tapi ga cuma makanan manado juga sih....

  • "No spoon thank you, I'll use my face!"

  • 'That's the thing about nature, so often there seem to be inclines involved'

    LOL

and omg that pork skin looks delicious

  • i've been to ibu oka and it is the best roast pig ive ever had in my life.. n ive eaten a lot of pig hehe

  • I love Indonesia!

  • indonesian heritage ftw!

  • wow jaime!!!!

  • Filipino food uses less spices and condiments than other Southeast Asian cuisines such as Indonesia,Thailand or Vietnam, Some Filipino foods such as Adobo is rather strong in taste, but in general they're not as popular in the west for a reason.

  • yes .. yes.

  • JAMIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is by far one of my favorite episodes. Anthony is brilliant.

  • this has to be my fav. episode! thanks for posting!

  • Balinese Pig is the same as Pilipino Lechon.. I tasted both, and they are equal in taste.. However I prefer the Balinese skin with that coco water caramelize coating...

  • Indonesians use coconut water while Filipinos use Coke (soda). Different methods, same result.

  • Indonesian, Thai food and most other S.E. Asian food is in a different class. After a week in the Philippines I was sick of Pizza, Pasta, Sweet and horrid cheesy foods. They love the worst kind of American food, not the good stuff. A couple of nice chicken dishes; yet a desert for good cuisine.

  • Yes, it's even worth sitting on the pan for the duration of the visit as some kind of perverse payback for being let into the secret!

  • Im filipino, and sad to say what you say is true, we've lost most of our cultural food in a pile of artery clogging nightmares. There are ALOT of good fish dishes, chicken, pork, snake and i remember eating pidgeon too. It's a shame that most of it is lost now.

  • It isn't lost. You just need to look in the right places.

  • many Filipinos should have more sense of national pride and identity. I know in your history your friendliness allowed western nations to take advantage of you, time is changing and so is history. restore your national pride from within the country from elementary school levels soon the national pride will be strong because Philippines has rich cultures.

  • filipinos would rather have a civil war over food because someone said X is better than X, rather than using it as motivation to better themselves.

  • Sounds like you stayed in Manila. Funny how you came up with that general conclusion after having spent only a week there. How I would love to go back there with you and show you what Filipino cuisine is made of, all on me. And don't let the No Reservations Philippine episode fool you. Those tour guides did an ok job but they missed out on so much. They covered less than a quarter of what the real Philippines is all about. But Tony did say we have the best roasted pig "ever".

  • I'm sure. Considering the country is surrounded by great waters there must be more. Come on 4Timesdafunky, get out there and show the world all the secrets.

  • Yup. I've seen Filipinos roast pork... it looks pretty similar with Balinese one. THe skin might be crispier.

  • si Anthony uda kena babi guling jampi2 indo.

lol ampe ngmg haute cuisine french punya babi kalah ama babi guling ubud.

    Indo emg heaven on earth.

  • i love jamie!

  • shoot the waterfall! lmao

  • OMG Jamie Aditya, I love that man and ...Indonesia as well

  • ironic yeah, indo muslim country, but we make the best babi guling...w00t

  • But Bali's consist Predominantly Hindu's population,isn't it?

  • yeah, but bali is still a part of indonesia, and indonesia is a muslim country.

  • really?

Is that part of Pancasila? I don't think so.

Indonesia has lots of Muslims, but it's not Islamic.

  • haha .. keep dreaming

  • Indonesia has one of the largest muslim population yet Indonesia is not an Islamic country, please don't get it confused.

  • Indonesia has the largest muslim population but No, it's not a Islamic country FYI

  • gak ironic juga....biasa aja...justru itu keunikannya

  • Food Porn. Got to love it

  • Using your face? You did it very well. lol!

  • Never been to Bali.. But I will, soon... soon my friend..

  • Bali is the only island that almost all of the people is hindhusm. And absoloutely That's true if you visit Bali, you will miss evrything when you leave, especialy the suckling pig (babi guling)

  • this video is so pig propaganda!! hahaha

  • lol Lizard turd

  • baby back bbq

  • his waterfall comments are genius

  • OMG i've been to that Ibu Oka place. it's really just that. deliciousness. oh im drooling just reminiscing about it.

  • nice explanation Jamie.....for "Balai Bengong"

    huaiheiuaheaihea...

  • this is fu**ing mouth watering

  • i love asia

  • "Thanks but no spoon necessary, I'll be using my face."

    rofl

  • "Oh my god. A lizard laid a turd right on my papaya!" Tony then says, "That's good protein." LOL.

  • This is my fav also. I love Bali so much, the place where I spend my holiday almost every year...I love that suckling pig!! damnnnn I must go to Ubud again this year, Ibu Oka, wait for me!

  • Ibu Oka + Bebek Bengil = *#@*()*)#!()*()!!!!!
