  • @Palifiox Because that's where it worked for most of it's life. Cheers!

  • @2CR51

they plan it on 17,18 Sept 2011...

    I´ll be there ;-))

  • @Garrattmaker Thanks for the tip off!

  • @theamateurbasher

    sorry ! I was wrong ...

it is the Garratt gathering at Moors Valley

    :-/

  • @Garrattmaker Ah well, cheers anyway!

  • Shouldn't it have been called the Great Beyer, Peacock Gathering? Only one of those locos is a Garratt.

  • @beeble2003 There were over 100 garratts of all shapes and sizes at the event

  • @railenthusiast88 A Garratt is a specific design of articulated steam locomotive, with the boiler on a frame mounted on two bogies. The locomotives at 1:15, 3:52 and 4:55 are the only Garratts in the video; the rest of them may well have been built by Beyer, Peacock and Co but they're not Garratts. (My earlier claim that there was only one Garratt shown is incorrect.)

  • @beeble2003 To be accurate there was only one 'garratt' shown as others built after were officially 'beyer garratts'. The video may show 3 garratt and beyer garratt engines but from actually attending the event from models to full size engines there were 100 at the event. Others are shown in David's excellent set of videos.

  • @railenthusiast88 A Beyer Garratt is just a Garratt locomotive built by Beyer, Peacock and Co, in just the same way that a 'Ford V8' is just a V8 engine built by Ford. Yes, Beyer's developed the design somewhat but, similarly, Ford has developed the design of the V8 engine. The pre-event publicity I found on the web says that there were only going to be eight full-sized Garratts at the event, plus a large number of 'miniatures'

  • @2CR51 I think this was a one-off event, highly unlikely to be repeated. Thanks for asking anyway.

  • do u think i did a good job on 957 that's me at 2.25 with my mate cleaning the tender!

  • Why of course you did - 957 was certainly working well! LOL

    Thanks!

  • Jeeesus, it's only when you see William Francis in the cold light of day, that you fully appreciate how bloody rough it looks! Come on Bressingham! get it restored and running once again, how can you let such a unique loco' just sit and rust?

  • A very good point there maesfforddfilmunit. If Oliver Cromwell can be put back into service, then why not William Francis as well? We sure could do with a standard gauge Garratt up and running...

    Thanks for commenting!

  • Cracking video mate, real nice!

  • Thanks MINILOCO999!
