  • lol pity americans the whole world uses km not mph

  • automatics are no where near as fun as a manual

  • manual is a lot better...

  • I don't think he has made a call from the car because your phonebook does appear on the menu screen not the radio screen.

  • Nice car! 1.6 Bluemotion TDI with DSG, Highline version is: 57.779,04 USD in Denmark. :((

  • can adults sit in the back comfortably?

  • @mykamloopsrealtor there is plenty on room in the back of these golfs really good leg room and head room depending on how tall you are im 6 ft tall and have a good space id recommend this car to anyone

  • regarding the heat/ac; it's called climatronic

  • I would be interested to know what car the reviewer came from.... He kept on mentioning features that are rarely seen in German cars.

  • I think americans are still very "backward" so to say in terms of cars. Its clear that views of most americans on diesel engines for example are completely wrong. The fact is, in europe small diesel engines (3 liter and less) are more popular than small petrol engines. Why? Because they are superior to petrol engines in every single way, they're also much more technically advanced. They're faster, more efficient, more reliable, more quiet, more suited for everyday driving because of torque...

  • Why are americans so addicted to having leather in cars? And why do you look down on cloth? Just because its cloth, doesnt mean its cheap or it wont last long. In most cases, especially in german cars, cloth is very high quality and will probably look like new for longer time than leather would, it also has advantages over leather such as...its warm in winter, cold in summer, it makes you stick to the seat better, you dont slide like on leather. AND, animal didnt die for your car.

  • @derbigpr500 and if you drop food on leather its a fuckin pain in the ass

  • @derbigpr500 i agree with you BUT my grandmother has a vw jetta with vtex (fake leather) and vw did a good job with it because you dont need to condition it like leather and and it will always look new and you can just wipe it down with Windex. But my point is that its better for her to have the leather because its easier to get out of because you can slide around in it

  • Gotta say thats an nice review for an American (not to be rude).

  • ahhh. an automatic. end of video.

  • sadly this days people do not know how to drive a manual transmission car, it should be a basic knowledge just like cooking eggs

  • @dieselboy77 That applies only to america. In the rest of the world, especially in europe, knowing how to drive a manual car is common knowledge ,and you CANT get a driving license without.

  • Thanks for the honest review. If you go for the base model with a manual do you think it's better for the money? Or should you spend the extra to get all the toys? I'd get manual either way, but I like swiveling HID's and the LED running lights that come with, I like premium audio and Navi, sunroof don't really care about. It still has Bluetooth and a lot of other standard features on the base model which is not true of the regular Golf or even the GTI.

  • the 2011-2012 Golf TDI has phonebook integration

  • Why is it that in this video, you have an RNS510 navigation system, while in the VW website, you can only equip a 4-dr Golf TDI with an RNS310?

  • German cars arent about bells and whistles thats an american thing

  • Even better than automatic climate control is the dual temperature control....my wife could have it warmer on her passenger side than I had in the driver's seat.....that was in the German spec Golf Plus TDI I had when we lived in Germany...I averaged 40 MPG with that car.

  • I love the Golf TDI - have a new 2012 on order with manual transmission -- as far as I'm concerned, automatic transmission takes much of the sport out of driving! I agree that the fabric on the arm rests is sub-standard!

  • Another thing that sucks about the U.S. version is that the A/C air vents are rectangular. The German spec Golf has the round A/C vents which are far superior because the air can be shot in ANY direction at any angle....why do they have to fuck things up for the U.S. market???

  • Contrary to this video, it actually sucks that the kilometers on the spedometer are not provided along with the MPH....especially for those of us who will drive in a KM zone.

  • @markpianoman A lot of cars are like this now. You just hit a button on the dash and it shows KMPH or MPH, so what exactly is your issue? When i cross into Canada, I hit a button, when I cross back into the US, I hit a button. All is well.

  • this is gonna be my next car,, good review

  • Good review, thanks! The relatively high cost of the car and diesel fuel does take away some of the appeal, but hats off to VW for at least putting it out there, especially for offering a 2-door version!

  • I actually love not having leather seats and climate control. Most higher end cars don't even offer cloth seats, that grinds my gears more. I hate when they force options. Luckily for me, I find the TDI to have the perfect mesh of options for me : ) looking forward to getting one in a few weeks!! Nice review : )

  • Well done, thorough video. What you said about the scarcity of these vehicles in the US is very true. I've been looking, but have yet to find one (used) with the spec I want.

To add to your driving impressions, I would say that compared to a GTI, throttle response in this car isn't the best. Perhaps it is all diesels, but in a 6MT, I found down shifts in the TDI to be very slow due to poor throttle response. And for those like me who like to heel-toe, they're SOL.

  • I'm a former GTi owner, so I know the fun a VW can offer. Living in Austin, TX where the price for Diesel is currently $3.76. Most of my 20-mile, 1-way commute to work is on the freeway. Given the current spike in fuel prices due to the events in Egypt and Libya have caused a strain on every driver, I am wondering if you feel you may wish you should have picked a hybrid, or something different? I am considering the Golf TDi and would like to hear your input given current fuel prices.

  • Vince Vaughn.. ?

  • Is it made in Mexico?

  • @scvs2 Golfs sold in the US are German made.

  • @rwcmick Oh, do you have any clue about the ones in Canada?

  • @rwcmick automatic climate control isn't offered in the us golf, cept for the golf Gti R.

  • @rwcmick ACTUALLY its 40% mexico and 20% germany.. it says right on the car at a car dealership(:

  • @Pilotofdoom2 Maybe you are confusing a sticker you saw for the Jetta? In the USA, the Golfs are produced in Germany. Check out eBay motors and look at any recent Golf, look at the history report. Made in Germany. Look at the VIN: Jetta and New Beetle are made in Mexico (their VIN begins with 3), but the Golf and GTI are made in Germany (their VIN begins with W)

  • @rwcmick Mabye ill go back and look, because now you have me curious! Ill post a pic or vid if I do.

  • @rwcmick Are golfs really assembled in Germany?? cause i was brought up under the impression from reliable sources that all Volkswagen cars are made in mexico just because its cheaper and they dont have to export them. But i really am in love with the Volkswagen Golf..and plan to purchase one real soon ;)

  • @policeman10019 Jetta and Beetle are made in Mexico. US Passat now made in the US, but the Golf is German made. Easy to tell, just check out the window sticker at the dealer or the tag on the door.

  • @rwcmick I thought they were made in Brazil

  • @klukash by the way the backup camera is a feature but only exclusive to the euro market

  • @scvs2 I believe that to be the same, Germany. The Jettas, New Beetles are Mexican made. The all-new Passat in the Superbowl ad will be made in the US (check my vids, I have a flyover of the factory).

  • @rwcmick also the rear camera and rear sensors also are available for the golfs, just sadly not for the us market.

  • @scvs2 Wagon is made in Mexico, others in Germany.

  • Great points that most reviewers don't point out Good job

  • Why don't you actually drive the car :)) That's why it's called test drive. But nice video anyway, very thorough!

  • @floflorian Well, I drove the car for a week, then offered my impressions in this video, hence "test drive impressions." Having said that, I have experimented with in car filming, so far it has induced more sea sickness than benefit. However, I am always trying to improve. Check out my Camaro convertible video, it is the first auto review that I have actually been able to edit.

  • Great video!

Would you recommend this car to a college student who will be doing most of his driving in downtown Toronto?

  • @hanlongispro Sure, I don't see why not. There are a lot of cars in this price range that would fit your needs, but if you want diesel, then look no further.
