I totally agree with you for once gricer, we should have more alternatives to gas powered cars, I like the idea of electric cars and I have heard of the oil from fast food reastraunts being turned into fuel. The unfortunate thing is it should be up to the people how and what they drive again the government should not force. them. As for wind power it just is not feasible it does not work hyro or nuclear is more the way to go. The problem is if you agree with this you wont vote liberal.

@SEJG18 Wind power definitely has huge potential as an energy source. I agree there is more research needed to make it viable in the eyes of the public. Electric cars, when on the showroom floor, should have the same price tag as a fossil-fuel powered vehicle as up-front costs tend to discourage people (electric cars require very little maintenance and no gas at all).

@SEJG18 That's not the whole solution to the problem, even with electric cars there is still congestion. Sitting in slow-moving traffic slowly sucks the charge out of your battery, then you're stuck. Which is why we need greater investment in PUBLIC TRANSIT.

You have also talked of bio fuels. Do you know what it would take to actually implement something as rediculous as that idea. Even if you planted the whole country of the USA with nothing more than corn crop for bio fuels you still wouldnt come up with the demands we have on energy for moving vehicles, again another useless idea presented by a useless government. @SEJG18 What about all the fryer oil used by fast food restaurants across Canada? Buy the used oil, refine it, and burn it instead of gas. Mix it with diesel fuel if need be. If that doesn't work use natural gas or electricity.

Also it can be noted that most companies will follow socially responsible programs as they want people to continue to purchase thier products. So who better to talk about climate change then the big oil companies that have just suckered you into believing they care. In the end they only care about the bottom line. Companies will come up to bogus climate code as people demand it, so they can stay in business. Governments shouldnt force this issue let the people decide.

@SEJG18 People should be able to decide…to an extent. For instance, electric cars are, in the long run, cheaper than petroleum-fuelled cars. Give people a cost breakdown and let them decide. In most cities, buying a monthly transit pass (i know, i know, the bain of your existence) is cheaper than buying a month's worth of gas for your car. Give people a cost breakdown and let them decide. Show them the merits of adopting wind power, for example. The LakeWind project does a good job of this.

The biggest problem with your theroy is that educated people will still be employeed regardless of where companies move, so just get an education. We take the risk because at the expense of our whole economy we could lose everything. @SEJG18 Besides, money used to replace coal-fired power plants with nuclear power plants, wind turbines and hydroelectric dams, for example, is money well spent. Implementing a cap-and-trade system will do nothing but good. Building more subways and LRTs, lowering transit fares, using buses that run on biodiesel and raising the price of gas and the parking fees will allow us to cut down on toxins/GHGs. You are aware that some of the stuff that comes out of a car's tailpipe can kill you right?

How about a car which runs on hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe, which produces only water vapour as exhaust, stuff you could drink if it were condensed. We're not talking about risky climate engineering projects here.

We'll spend the money, but it will be money well send and we can live our lives with a positive outlook on the future. You'd feel pretty shitty, because we could have taken steps to prevent such a thing. You said no.

Think of all the emissions that come out of the tailpipe of cars and trucks, stuff that can kill you, in fact. You value personal autonomy? Ride a bike. Transit has the advantage of being much more efficient and (if you're riding subways or LRT) much faster than driving.

In the summer months the earth tilts toward the sun, meaning there's more light. In the winter months the earth tilts away from the sun, meaning there's less light. The earth's orbit has nothing to do with the fact that the global temperature is slowly rising. And you still have not presented any evidence that climate change is BS.

We need to know whether we should take action on climate change or not. If it's real and we take action on it, we're OK, we've spent a lot of money but it was money well spent, with the risk of having a global economic shutdown. If it's real and we don't act on it, it would mean the end of the world as we know it. Why take the risk?

Driving is totally sustainable, because they are finding oil in wells that were previously thought to be empty, and futher research my prove that oil is a renewable resource. @SEJG18 No you idiot, gas is in very limited supply, and it takes TENS OF MILLIONS OF YEARS for it to come back once we've used it up! If you think climate change is BS you're a complete knuckle-dragger. There is no "proof" of climate change being BS, and if there is please explain it. The quality of public transit varies from city to city, and most cities with a government made up of people who have at least half a brain have excellent public transportation systems.

Canada's banks largely weathered the recession because of banking regulations introduced by the previous Liberal government, which Harper tried to GET RID OF, I might add. Getting rid of the gun registry is stupid, even the police (which it seems Harper has in his pocket) are admitting it's a stupid idea. The Citizen's Arrest act was barely altered. Just ask the US. Of the 25 cities with the highest rates of violent crime, 62% are in Democrat-controlled (blue) states and 38% are in Republican-controlled (red) states. Out of the 25 most dangerous states, 76% are red. Out of the 22 states with the highest rates of murder, 77% are red.

In fact, the only year the murder rate went up was AFTER the introduction of the long gun registry. In the same period the murder rate in America has dropped much quicker in comparison, and in th meanwhile they have been getting rid of gun laws. The reason America has so much more crime is because of minorities, not gun owners.
