I totally agree with you for once gricer, we should have more alternatives to gas powered cars, I like the idea of electric cars and I have heard of the oil from fast food reastraunts being turned into fuel. The unfortunate thing is it should be up to the people how and what they drive again the government should not force. them. As for wind power it just is not feasible it does not work hyro or nuclear is more the way to go. The problem is if you agree with this you wont vote liberal.
@SEJG18 Wind power definitely has huge potential as an energy source. I agree there is more research needed to make it viable in the eyes of the public. Electric cars, when on the showroom floor, should have the same price tag as a fossil-fuel powered vehicle as up-front costs tend to discourage people (electric cars require very little maintenance and no gas at all).
@SEJG18 That's not the whole solution to the problem, even with electric cars there is still congestion. Sitting in slow-moving traffic slowly sucks the charge out of your battery, then you're stuck. Which is why we need greater investment in PUBLIC TRANSIT.
You have also talked of bio fuels. Do you know what it would take to actually implement something as rediculous as that idea. Even if you planted the whole country of the USA with nothing more than corn crop for bio fuels you still wouldnt come up with the demands we have on energy for moving vehicles, again another useless idea presented by a useless government. The liberals want you to believe a fairy tale that these things could work. Anyone who knows anything knows these claims are a joke.
@SEJG18 What about all the fryer oil used by fast food restaurants across Canada? Buy the used oil, refine it, and burn it instead of gas. Mix it with diesel fuel if need be. If that doesn't work use natural gas or electricity.
Also it can be noted that most companies will follow socially responsible programs as they want people to continue to purchase thier products. So who better to talk about climate change then the big oil companies that have just suckered you into believing they care. In the end they only care about the bottom line. Companies will come up to bogus climate code as people demand it, so they can stay in business. Governments shouldnt force this issue let the people decide.
@SEJG18 People should be able to decide…to an extent. For instance, electric cars are, in the long run, cheaper than petroleum-fuelled cars. Give people a cost breakdown and let them decide. In most cities, buying a monthly transit pass (i know, i know, the bain of your existence) is cheaper than buying a month's worth of gas for your car. Give people a cost breakdown and let them decide. Show them the merits of adopting wind power, for example. The LakeWind project does a good job of this.
@gricer1326 yes but politicians don't really give two shits about what is good for the earth all they really want is power and they are ready to say anything and everything to get that power. a while back there was a car that could run on water and was completly efficient and worked but the car was bought and scrapped by car companies. if politicians really cared about the earth they would have bought the rights to that car and sold it to the public instead of trying this b.s "earth hour".
@longliverocknroll5 Politicians are stupid, everyone knows this. Unfortunately this means they're susceptible to corporate influence and bribery. It's not the governments who run things right now, and that has to change. A lot of people are equally stupid and selfish and will do anything to try and stop any projects that could potentially eat up their tax dollars, especially if it might help someone. Capitalism!
At 25 cents an hour the world economy would just change to make everything cheaper. The biggest problem with your theroy is that educated people will still be employeed regardless of where companies move, so just get an education. I believe that the earth can and will sustain human life. I agree we need to take care of the planet, but not at the cost of our quality of life and well being. That being the economy that is untouched again by crippling effects of climate change legislation
@SEJG18 But taking better care of the planet directly influences our quality of life, don't you understand?!?! Don't you want to live on a planet where you can count the climate being more or less stable?
We take the risk because at the expense of our whole economy we could lose everything. Climate change proposals made by the Liberal party would cripple companies who provide jobs, to the point of major unemployment. Then who is going to pay for all these communist social programs implemented by a lefty government.
@SEJG18 So we should save our economy at the expense of the quality of our life and the well-being (survival) of our species, is this what you're saying? Harper has already hurt the economy with his drunken-sailor spending binges, he's definitely no basket of fruit. Unemployment would continue to rise in any case, as free-market capitalism allows countries to move jobs from the developed world to places where their workers can legally be paid 25¢ an hour.
@SEJG18 And if AGCD turns out to be real, the effect it will have on us will make the issue of the economic collapse and high unemployment rates moot and we'd be dealing with droughts, floods, famine, rising sea level, ice ages, disease epidemics, war, AND economic failure. The world's most educated and respected scientists, plus the US Pentagon and Exxon to boot are encouraging action on climate change. An oil company!
@SEJG18 Besides, money used to replace coal-fired power plants with nuclear power plants, wind turbines and hydroelectric dams, for example, is money well spent. Implementing a cap-and-trade system will do nothing but good. Building more subways and LRTs, lowering transit fares, using buses that run on biodiesel and raising the price of gas and the parking fees will allow us to cut down on toxins/GHGs. You are aware that some of the stuff that comes out of a car's tailpipe can kill you right?
@SEJG18 And if public transit is really not one of your considerations, consider this: one day in the near future you could drive a car that you can plug into your wall outlet, without having to fill up at a gas station. How about a car which runs on hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe, which produces only water vapour as exhaust, stuff you could drink if it were condensed. We're not talking about risky climate engineering projects here.
@SEJG18 This helps our economy, because it gives jobs to companies who manufacture the required equipment. In the long run, it will do more good than harm. We'll spend the money, but it will be money well send and we can live our lives with a positive outlook on the future. Now imagine reading this post when famine, disease and a drastically changed/potentially volatile climate plague our species. You'd feel pretty shitty, because we could have taken steps to prevent such a thing. You said no.
Typical Liberal reteric followed by insults. Actually there is proof that those wells are filling up again in a few years like 100 then 10 million so sorry to disappoint. Again with the public transit being great, I should have the freedom to go where I want when I want and not have to stop all along the way. Climate change happens it's true it happens every 3-4 months it's called a season change. Yet again more reasons not to vote Liberal.
@SEJG18 Those wells are NOT filling up, they're just drilling deeper. Even if they were, it doesn't mean oil is any less environmentally disastrous. Think of all the emissions that come out of the tailpipe of cars and trucks, stuff that can kill you, in fact. You value personal autonomy? Ride a bike. Transit has the advantage of being much more efficient and (if you're riding subways or LRT) much faster than driving.
@SEJG18 The change of seasons isn't climate, it's weather, and it's caused by the rotation of the earth around the sun. In the summer months the earth tilts toward the sun, meaning there's more light. In the winter months the earth tilts away from the sun, meaning there's less light. The earth's orbit has nothing to do with the fact that the global temperature is slowly rising. And you still have not presented any evidence that climate change is BS.
@SEJG18 The whole "legitimacy of climate change" debate is moot anyway, because we're never going to be able to know until it's too late. We need to know whether we should take action on climate change or not. If it's real and we take action on it, we're OK, we've spent a lot of money but it was money well spent, with the risk of having a global economic shutdown. If it's real and we don't act on it, it would mean the end of the world as we know it. Why take the risk?
Driving is totally sustainable, because they are finding oil in wells that were previously thought to be empty, and futher research my prove that oil is a renewable resource. Climate change is bs it has been proven to be bs. If Canada is the most wasteful country in the world thats my choice, the government shouldnt dictate that. Or should we just elect Stalin or Hitler for the next PM. Also public transit is a terrible service and should be able to travel when I want. more reasons not to vote.
@SEJG18 No you idiot, gas is in very limited supply, and it takes TENS OF MILLIONS OF YEARS for it to come back once we've used it up! If you think climate change is BS you're a complete knuckle-dragger. There is no "proof" of climate change being BS, and if there is please explain it. The quality of public transit varies from city to city, and most cities with a government made up of people who have at least half a brain have excellent public transportation systems.
My only question to all the liberals out there is why do the liberals want a carbon tax credit? and why do they want to make gas so expensive that no one will be able to afford to drive? I thought I lived in a free country not in a country that dictates what I do with how it taxes me
@SEJG18 Because (a) driving is not sustainable (b) Canada is one of the most wasteful countries in the world (c) climate change (d) so there can be greater investment in public transit.
Conservative majority 2011! It seems like people are still confused, Liberal =/= libertarianism. They are owned by corporations and only want to restrict the lives of citizens further.
@gricer1326 I just felt like saying it. Saying that is about that same as constantly calling it a "Harper dictatorship" etc. Just proving a point. Hmm one good thing? Successfully navigating a world recession? Trying to get rid of the gun registry? Self defence bill? I am sure they will be a lot more things once we have a majority. It's pretty hard to accomplish major changes without a majority.
@fatoni698 I actually laughed when you said it. Canada's banks largely weathered the recession because of banking regulations introduced by the previous Liberal government, which Harper tried to GET RID OF, I might add. Getting rid of the gun registry is stupid, even the police (which it seems Harper has in his pocket) are admitting it's a stupid idea. The Citizen's Arrest act was barely altered. Canadians are sick of the Harper Dictatorship and are prepared to stand up him.
@gricer1326 Haha, whatever man. I think you meant "stand up to him". But I think you will be suprised by the election results. People still remember all the REAL scandals that plagued the last liberal government. And no, police officers do not support the registry, that is the police chiefs, which are very corrupt. I don't really care anyways, I vote, I donate, but really it is up to the other voters.
@fatoni698 Are you still stuck in 2003? The Liberals have gone through 4 leaders since then. If the gun registry is removed we are in a dangerous situation. The gun registry keeps crime down. Just ask the US. Of the 25 cities with the highest rates of violent crime, 62% are in Democrat-controlled (blue) states and 38% are in Republican-controlled (red) states. Out of the 25 most dangerous states, 76% are red. Out of the 22 states with the highest rates of murder, 77% are red.
@gricer1326 The gun registry has had zero effect on crime, the murder rate drop is merely following a 30 year trend. In fact, the only year the murder rate went up was AFTER the introduction of the long gun registry. In the same period the murder rate in America has dropped much quicker in comparison, and in th meanwhile they have been getting rid of gun laws. The reason America has so much more crime is because of minorities, not gun owners.
@fatoni698 So now i find out you're a racist. Tsk tsk. By that logic Canada should have a crime rate many times higher than that of the US, but in reality it is may times lower. How do you explain the fact that crime rates in republican-controlled states (with incredibly lax gun laws and an almost entirely white population) are much higher compared to democrat-controlled states and the Canadian national crime rate?
@fatoni698 Anyway, even if he does get rid of the gun registry, and even if it does help reduce crime, Harper will be a complete hypocrite for allowing police officers to be criminals themselves.
@fatoni698 Correspondingly, the red states have more lax gun laws while the blue states have more restrictions. Compared to the tightest US regulations ours are on steroids and our national crime rate is extremely low, and falling. Let's keep it that way.
Spin, lies, BS...how about the ugly truth about what's been going on in Quebec and Canada for decades now???Go check out these videos-This Video is Banned in Quebec 1 of 2, or This Video is Banned in Quebec 2 of 2, or Language discrimination. Enjoy
baird007 is right on the money, liberalism is NOT libertarianism, it is barely concealed socialism. Dion's Greenshift is designed to take money from industry (shareholders) and redistribute the wealth to those who didn't earn it. That and the increased role of Govt. the liberals want is socialism.
Dude, whether you're right or left in Canada you're always a socialist. Wholly fuck, dude. Americans look at you as a socialist and nothing but. Harper is a socialist like every canadian.
How so? Under Chretien we had 8 continous surpluses in the 10's of billions of dollars.
Now, NAFTA is a creation of the conservatives and now that our dollar is at times higher than the americans, we have started to shed manufacturing jobs.
I still can't understand how you think the way you do. Jobs are now beng lost to Mulroney's baby...NAFTA! LOL
"The only G8 country that doesn't have a deficit right now"
.....yeah, except our national debt at the end of the liberal reign was still $481 billion... for a reduction of 80 billion during nine years. And taking into account the gigantic surpluses the government was taking in each year, it's pathetic it wasn't reduced by much, much more. What does it matter if we're not operating on a deficit if the surplus is going towards more wasteful lib-tard spending?
Another point to make is Libertarianism actually correlates with Traditional Conservatism. Today's Liberals certainly don't adhere to the principles of Libertarians. Look of Thomas Jefferson and Ron Paul and you will find true Libertarians.
Correction, it's what Liberals TRY to be but they're not the same!!! Libertarianism is actually about more personal freedom and less government. Liberalism is more bureaucracy and more intervention with the lives of the people.
You know what, I really think you should be in Ottawa. Ask why? Because Conservatives in Ottawa can't explain themselves when asked by the national media. Since you're good in defending them, you should be their spokesperson. At least someone's talking for them, right? :)
Harper’s original position, that being to relinquish the duties of the Ethics Commissioner while investigating, was against the very platform he had a hand in writing. When will Mr. Harper be accountable to his own platform?
Harper does not believe in strengthening the role of the Ethics Commissioner as he avoided the most recent investigation into the Emerson affair only to succumb after public opinion was not favourable.
Awww... too bad, our government is now a extreme right-thinking one. The Conservatives' careless appointments clearly shows how ineffective they are. Too bad the Liberals lost. It's Canada's greatest lost.
I firmly believe they do. I believe that the current Liberals(Martin's) changed from the Chretien Liberals they were back. The robust economy, like what this ad conveys, is clearly one of the million reasons to vote Liberal. Besides, are you just voting to "punish" the Liberals? Are you willing to suffer under the "hidden-agenda" programs by the Conservatives? I don't believe so.
Given the recent election reults, that slogan ought to be... "I'm sure there are many EXCUSES for voting liberal; what's yours?"

baird007 is right on the money, liberalism is NOT libertarianism, it is barely concealed socialism.

Harper is a socialist like every canadian.

no, actually, your wrong

a vote for liberals is a vote against our economy and our people.
VvredknightvV 3 years ago
LOL

Vote Liberal.
Hey, atleast it isn't conservative!

Look of Thomas Jefferson and Ron Paul and you will find true Libertarians.
baird007 4 years ago
Libertarianism. Look it up. That's what liberalism actually is; NOT socialism.
Boxcutter 5 years ago
Correction, it's what Liberals TRY to be but they're not the same!!! Libertarianism is actually about more personal freedom and less government. Liberalism is more bureaucracy and more intervention with the lives of the people.

the Liberals are truly the one to vote this next election! Steve Harper sucks.

Who? Is that why the media and the Conservatives are still arguing on who's going to get information?
Have you heard about the Conservatives muzzling the military? Why so? tsktsk
shackproof1987 5 years ago
You know what, I really think you should be in Ottawa. Ask why? Because Conservatives in Ottawa can't explain themselves when asked by the national media. Since you're good in defending them, you should be their spokesperson. At least someone's talking for them, right? :)

Harper’s original position, that being to relinquish the duties of the Ethics Commissioner while investigating, was against the very platform he had a hand in writing. When will Mr. Harper be accountable to his own platform?

"Whinning?" LOL! Truth hurts doesn't it?
shackproof1987 5 years ago
Harper does not believe in strengthening the role of the Ethics Commissioner as he avoided the most recent investigation into the Emerson affair only to succumb after public opinion was not favourable.
shackproof1987 5 years ago
Oh is he really? How come he's acting like a chicken when that news broke out? "Loathe to cooperate?" That's one disrespectful person.

Reason is because Stephen Harper is a dick!?!

Haven't you heard about the ethics czar investigating the PM and Emerson? Just another reason to vote Liberal on the next election, eh?
shackproof1987 6 years ago
And that's not far ahead. We're gonna have a Liberal MAJORITY government. for sure.
shackproof1987 6 years ago
Awww... too bad, our government is now a extreme right-thinking one. The Conservatives' careless appointments clearly shows how ineffective they are. Too bad the Liberals lost. It's Canada's greatest lost.
shackproof1987 6 years ago
I firmly believe they do. I believe that the current Liberals(Martin's) changed from the Chretien Liberals they were back. The robust economy, like what this ad conveys, is clearly one of the million reasons to vote Liberal. Besides, are you just voting to "punish" the Liberals? Are you willing to suffer under the "hidden-agenda" programs by the Conservatives? I don't believe so.
