This film is very interesting, original and soooooo underrated. Jennifer Lopez is great actress no matter what. Visual effects reminded me of Madonna's 'Bedtime Story' (video) a little bit. Anyway, The Cell is one of the most overlooked Sci-Fi films of the 2000's (along with Supernova, Mission to Mars, Evolution, Ultraviolet, Equilibrium, Cube 2, Alien Lockdown, Serenity, Signs, Hulk, Avatar (2004), Ghosts of Mars, A Sound of Thunder)
lol, how is this movie 'stupid'? It's far more intelligent then 90% of what's made these days. The depiction of a serial killer and his internal world with it's extravagant sense of human experience and the cold, dark mechanical aspect oh himself dominating his thoughts/actions is certainly more realistic then the portrayals we see on TV via endless generic cop dramas. Stupid people see stupidity where it isn't, this was a heavy/uncompromising exploration of the dark side of human nature.
@WOLF777dude An FBI agent persuades a social worker, who is adept with a new experimental technology, to enter the mind of a comatose serial killer in order to learn where he has hidden his latest kidnap victim. - got that from imdb but its quite an interesting movie i stumbled upon an article about how they did the makeup for one of the victims at the start and didnt sleep that well last night haha its quite disturbing
I didn't care much for the movie, but I love the surreal imagery. For some reason I really liked the scene with the 3 women with swimcaps sitting in the plowed field. It was so surreal!
Look at that mammal it is a male. Interesting specimen it seems to be participating in a ritual. He has managed to fashion an unnecessarily long garment out of insect excretion. I believe it comes from a type of worm. Ah yes it is called silk. Metal rings on its back indicate that it has the ability to make fire, as that is needed in metallurgy. It has wrapped its hands and arms in dead animal hide called leather. Purpose unknown. The shelter is of igneous rock tightly stacked without mortar.
This movie was very unsettling, but the imagery was absolutely magnificent. This scene in particular made a big impression on me; it's just awesome in every sense of the word. The daunting, ominous music, the commanding pose he sits in, the giant royal cape, the way he descends from his throne so regal and poised...did I mention the cape?
Just been looking for this, i couldnt remember where i had seen it, thought maybe it was a nightmare i had , Awsome imagery its certainly made an impression on me
This movie was cool as hell to me! Not a big JLo fan by ANY means, but she did an o.k. job. I think it is an accurate depiction of a killer's mind. I would imagine that a serial killer would see themselves as god that presided over who lived and who died. I would think they would see their victims as a kind of macabre court there only to serve their master. I think the ego of a killer would fancy themselves a god through the dominance of others' destiny.
Fuck, visually is amazing, strong, weird, but it doesn´t have the intelegence of Gilliams work, Lynch or Jodorowsky, the plot is hollywood sci fi art inspired, with bad acting. I recomend THE FALL (2006) by the same director, Tarsem Singh, that is a work of art. THe weird, visually intense ain´t always art or genius, it is what it is, as on Pasolinis work Saló, not all art expresion has taste, style, work in the plot and acting, script work. His style is similar to Wes Andersons work in a way?
To say the acting is bad is in this movie is a blanket comment. If anything the only bad acting comes from the two lead roles. However, Vincent D'Onofrio did an impressive job as an actor in this movie. He seems to be an actor who is very underrated, as he has too often been cast into minor roles.
i think ppl are hating jlo only for the sake of hating jlo. i usually hate her but she did at the least adequate in "selena" and "the cell". not oscar calibre, but at theleast adequate. the movie was about the visuals more than anything (the plot itself was not complex and the character development bad for the leads). shes also beautiful which fits for the character as she travels through the world in different ensembles. it sounds shallow but that's part of the film's appeal
"hollywood sci fi art inspired" I don't know about it being Holywood as it often has the continuity of a dream, much like Jacob's Ladder. And some of the best works of fiction have been science fiction, so I don't know what you're getting at there. Anyway, the science fiction elements seem secondary and in service to the film's concepts regarding dreams.
Adrian lyne´s Jacob´s ladder was amazing, don´t compare, I agree in that D´Onofrio was a surprise, but it seems to be only a theatrical and escenic actor, expresive.. impact acting.. I don´t know, the movie laks of dialog and true meaning, it doesn´t have the "rosebud" or the "xibalba", you know?, it´s an ilustration.. I dont know how to say it. For me is a forgetable movie, it happen to me, and I know about movies. But I respect you´re opinion.
Anyway, I hate film pretension, although I've probably made myself look like I'm down for it. It's usually shallow and relies heavily on the opinions of others.
WHERE DO YOU COME FROM? - and then the shout of J-lo it´s just awesome and impressive, its too really bad that part is missed, because its like the climax - Great anyway. reddress000 could you put the rest of the scene i´d appreciate that.
You know what.....this scene appeared in my dream..except there was a red tint and scenes were more disoriented...when the Stargher King said something to me......I was sooo scared, i nearly went insane.....this movie accomplished its purpose...to be like a dream..............
@reddress000 Can you upload the scene with Catherine's world and her final battle with Stargher (even when Stargher rises out of the pool)? The scene where she kills him? It's a great scene!
why do you think it's a stupid movie. I think that since he concentration was on design and it's visual decadence, the plot was minor (not bad, minor). I don't think it's stupid, i think its genious.
i vlove this part of the movie...sooo freaky as hell...WHERE DO U COME FROMMMM!!!!
