Grande Chris! We're now working together in "Le Grand Macabre". He sings Piet and his voice is AMAZING! Re# acuti!!! Fresh and powerful! And he's also precise and musikalish too. For me it's a great honour to conduct him in the rehearsal!!!
I'm so disgusted....how can u compare Florez to him?So different repertoire, this is a real baritenor.. i'd like you, "these experts good to critic" to find some new "baritenor"doing these great role in a better way...
Baritenor... to me is a Tenor who sings beriton roles because never learned to pass the voice throguh the passaggio. If Merritt is a baritenor, Mario del Monaco was a Bass.
I read again what I posted and cannot find where I say that "baritenor" is to have a dark voice. I respect your opinon but TO ME doesnt´mean neither high notes and low notes. What you consider "baritenor" FOR ME is a good singer who knows how to sing a wide register. BAritenors TO ME are all those personas that sings as "baritones" but that they are really tenors that are called "Lyric BAritones" or "BAritone Martin". To me is bad teaching and /or bad technique. :)
you said if merritt is a baritenor del monaco was a bass...so maybe you were talking about dark voice...or maybe my mistake ...anyway i am a baritenor and i can sing low notes and high and i sing as tenor spinto...but i am baritenor
Of course Merritt is a 'baritenore' - and a great one!
We have to remember that 'baritenori' are tenors (not baritones) whose main characteristics are a very agile voice and great vocal extension. It's a belcantistic voice, used until the Primo Ottocento.
Yet they both sang together in so many operas. I totally agree that they have there own places. But I wonder if singing thie rep. is why Chris burned out so soon.
maravilhoso cantor forte

This range is really increadible! I know this aria with Bruce Ford, whose voice is
more nicer, but Chris has the better high
and low notes! (Excuse my English, I'm
German)
