Mark, I had it the same, it was close but Hagler threw the harder shots. Leonard was the underdog and the media darling in the US. I feel Hagler needed to really dominate the fight to get the nod.
Ye man that was my initial thing, but people started asking my thoughts on this and that and I just went with the flow. But going to get more retro reports out there, got a few Retro Report stories at the website.
i had ray winning rds 1-4,hagler 5,ray 6,hagler 7-10, ray 11 and hagler 12, so a draw and hagler keeps the belt... but i think hagler would have beeb a clear winner if he started the fight in his favoured southpaw stance, i can understand how ray got the win bcos he did land more punches but he never visibly hurt hagler at any point, angelo must have tried the old trick with the glove tape at the begining of the 8th like when cooper dropped ali lol
i just refreshed my memory on this fight hadn't seen the whole fight for a couple of years.. the 1st time i watched the fight i had ray winning 7 rounds to 5 but this time i came to a draw simply bcos i think ray just shaded the 6th, if hagler had came out southpaw from the begining he could have been a clear winner those 2 rounds let ray get comfortable and hagler must regret the decision to fight orthodox for those rounds..cont
I agree 100% with you boxinghistorian that Hagler won that fight. I agree with the scoring as well, 115-114 for Hagler. Hagler was the one who actually made it a fight. All Leonard did was dance around and showboat untill the final 30 seconds of every round where he'd do a rapid-fire combination and "win" the round. But yeah, Hagler won that fight. Peace.
hey amir khan is back on itv what do you have to say about that. i think that tells me he does'nt care about money it was morely frank warren the greedy one
great fight and a close fight but Hagler won I thought, he was the Champion not the Challenger and it was Hagler CHASING Ray Leonard down as if he was the Challenger and not the Champion
Ray Leonard strategy was brilliant, he let Hagler do all the boxing and then he would throw a Flurry of Punches in the last 30 Seconds of the Round to make himself look good
but it wasn't enough IMO but Sugar Ray loved by MANY so all he had to do was get to the cards and he KNEW he would win
depends what ye like, if hagler landed somethin like 4 solid clean shots in a round, n leonard landed like 30 clean shots, most people appreciate a fighter more than a boxer, well a appreciate both. you could make arguments for either way but a gave Leonard it, woulda been amazing if these 2 guys fought in their prime
great fight to watch. leonard showed a great chin in this fight and took some big shots from hagler but aas the fight as a whole leonard just edged it for me. if hagler started southpaw then he probs would have won
I remembered vividly this fight, a real classic without a shadow of a doubt. Couldn't stop talking about it for weeks after it ended. Those were the good old days.
i had it, 8-3-1 for leonard.

First I heard, are you saying the Khan vs. Malignaggi fight will be on ITV, because it's on HBO so I don't see ITV showing it in the early hours.
They may have bought the rights to air a replay.
