I've been to many Beach Boys concerts in the seventies. I've noticed how Dennis played the back beat with both hands often, usually on a shuffle like California Girls, Help Me Rhonda, Good Vibrations, etc. Unique style. Don't recall seeing other drummers doing that as often as Dennis did. It was kind of his trade mark. He was the perfect drummer for their live shows. Say what you will about his drumming, I'd say it takes a good drummer to play Good Vibrations. He did a fine job on the live shows
@jmmyg54 well you were so lucky going to them beach boys concerts..I have always said Dennis was a great drummer .great to read your comment ..I would give my left arm to have been to them concerts ..
i was there that my blonde head in the front row my friend annette took me I had Denise wilson drumstick and sweat towel he als feel into his drumseat when he stood up he was a bit wasted..rip denise
simplistic, love this music and the beach boys, so sorry that brian put a tent in his living room floor, sand, did lots of acid, beautiful music, pray that the cia mk ultra program was not involved, assholes, love the beach boys.
Poor Brian, he was *almost* totally useless as a writer and performer at this time, though I'm sure that 90% of that was psychosomatic rather than drug-induced or whatever. That said "The Beach Boys Love You" has some good songs on it, even if they sound bizarrely naive and child-like.
So Great to see these 3 wonderful brothers on stage together. My favourite is Carl, he looks so gentle. The complex harmonies in their songs, make The Beach Boys second to none.
Everytime I see the "Midnight Special" infomercial on t.v. (actually, about 20 minutes ago), that one female dancer (1:00, 3:23) always gets my freakin' attention! Wow! Yeah, its definitely a shame I missed the 70's, man. Yesterday was actually my B-day--I was close too ('83!). Women seemed so natural and carefree at the time. I bet she was a REAL sweet thing back in '79! ;) (Take that however 'ya want! ;)) Screw the Beach Boys...even though this song is pretty cool & mellow. Long live the 70's!
It's awesome how that is what the Beach Boys actually sounded like when they performed. I would listen to them on the radio and i would say to myself there is no way someone can actually sound like that. But that is how they actually sounded. Awesome!!!!
Could it be James Wlliam Guercio on bass. he toured with the BB's but his claim to fame was producing the Buckinghams then getting Chicago a record contract and producing them. He must be a mailbox millionaire.
Ah, that's Mike Love. We all hate him bit it's not the Beach Boys without him. That being said, he needs to retire , like right now. I can't take the fake groups and lawsuits. Hey, that rhymes, maybe a song, Mike? "Fake Groups and Lawsuits" Get with Van Dyke? "Fake Groups and Lawsuits Tour"???? right up there with "Orange Crate Art and Lawsuits"?, No?
also, it's widely known in the music world that mike love was just about the biggest prick there ever was. he stole the glory any chance he got, and NEVER liked or understood Brian's new ideas until AFTER they were huge hits, ala Pet Sounds, Help Me, Rhonda, Good Vibes, et al. what a jackass mike love was/is.
i dont think dennis is the worst drummer, not the best but a real stage presence. I know the last few years of his life he struggled a bit but look at his drumming on the performance of good vibrations from the 1976 good vibrations tour - spot on.
I don't know who I want to punch more- Mike Love or the dancing douche wearing the visor.

Totally Brian and CARL's SONG -- why is M. L. taking center stage?????

Because Brian was barely able to sit up at the keyboard
In fact Brian was making very few concert appearances ... and likely the only reason he and Dennis are here is because Wolfman insisted ;)
