Kane does better in point production, especially in the regular season. He can be a point-per-game type of player.
Toews on the other hand is IMO overrated in the regular season. He is a 60-70 point getter and isn't really a point-per-game type of player. This year was one of his most productive season in his career, and it didn't even reach 82 points. That being said, he is very clutch and is amazing when it comes to the playoffs.

@rockndude87 Kane is the better offensive player, but if I were to choose one player on the Hawks to build a franchise around, it has to be Toews. Tazer is the best 2-way forward on the team. He has the offensive skills to make a move, is a good leader, is a sure thing to win a Selke in his career as the best defensive forward, and he is great at killing penalties.

@1teamrealtree okay, the hawks have six times as many scorers as the flames do, (Toews, Sharp, Hossa, Kane, Brouwer, etc) not to mention their defense that score. Campbell, Seabrook, Keith, Barker.

Havlat went to minnesota, and in my opinion hossa and havlat are about as important, so the hawks will still be as good as they were (semis isn't too shabby) (i think they will get that far next season too)

At this level, it's about your team winning. If you don't get any points but your team wins, that's good. If you try really hard and get a hattrick in a playoff game but your team loses, that's bad. It's not about how hard you try, it's about how effective you are at helping your team win.

But with Toews' strength at small battles, and Pat's amazing ability to cycle, they form the deadliest scoring tandem in the current NHL.

Kane is good, and no one would question that. I still think the description stands though, Toews takes faceoffs, is more physical, and is better defensively. Kane is better at setting up plays, and they're about equal in coming through. The only reason Toews didn't win rookie of the year last year is because he was hurt.
