@bonan960623 It is kinda a mess, there are two different parts that are electrified differently; 1500 V DC between Wellington and Waikanae, and 25 kV AC between Palmerston North and Te Rapa in Hamilton. Wikipedia says operating speed 120 km/h (maximum).
Nice Vid.. I am training to become a suburban trainee driver in Sydney. My goal is to come back to NZ and drive trains throughout the north island. My family live in Palmy. Can you tell me...? is it easy to get jobs as a Train Driver in NZ and also i havent asked this question to my instructors yet because my training doesnt start for a few months but can i use my ticket / license in NZ. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
Really sorry for the late reply, at the moment I believe it's quite hard as there have been redundancies. Who knows just have to apply...FYI there are some new Diesel Electric Locomotives comming from China next year, August or September, so watch this space.
Cheers, I would have had more video but the Video Camera ran out of juice, can't plug it in either as the power point in the cab was the UK type plug. Never mind, interesting how you can have a good cook up with the Hot Plate provided and of course, a cup of tea with the Hobbs Jug provided....with the UK type plug of course! How thoughtful those designers are in the UK. One Drives on the right hand side while the other cooks in the kitchen on the left hand side. lol
no matter waht love the vid how did u get the chabce to get inside one of these fanstactic locos??? would love to get a ride in 1 one day. and that is prety poor design about the power outlets. any way would love to c more. Happy youtubing lol
Well I'm mates with the driver so that's a good start and he got me a pass to ride on that day. I'm going to make sure I have enough battery power the next time I get to go and maybe I'll ride in a DX Diesel but it doesn't matter because what ever the ride would be good anyway. Happy YouTubing to you too!!:-)
Nice video! This is from the north island "trunk line", right? I have 2 questions about it:
What are the top line speed?
And how much of the line is electrified?
:)

Pretty good vid, shame that they are the most ignored machine in Kiwirails arsenal.
The majority of drivers have their own adaptors.
