That's of course not the best of all he could have played, but those who have known him would understand what is far over that precise moment...
On that tuesday, I was in the hall of the Ecole Normale where I was a pupil. I was supposed to meet him, but a few words on a sheet of paper told me he wouldn't come any more... So sad...
But he gave so much to his pupils that they will remember and play as an "hommage" to that wonderful musician!
I'm sorry to report that unfortunately Edson has passed away. He was my cousin and had been living in France for the longest time, Edson is originally Brazilian. Thank you all for the kind words in relation to his spectacular performances.
I agree so much islost with htis close Miking.wonderful ,sensitive coloring still. The feel and he way he focuses the narrative element show grt imagination.
I have a French friend who just came from Nancy festival where it seems this pianist has played at 1 a.m. (due to a huge delay on the concerts) the most beautiful Scarlatti he heard in his life, as well as the best Mazurka op 17 n. 4 from Chopin, among other works. Another friend, a Korean pianist told me also that this pianist has played a Grieg concerto with a Korean orchestra last April and people there are still talking about the magic sound they listened.
I regret that this video has been made with the microphones placed inside the piano. It's a pity because the interpretation is excellent. I heard by a student of M. Elias in Geneva conservatory that he had played a outstanding Dvorak concerto with orchestra. If someone have this video please let me know.
If I had known I would have taken a short holiday. Holland, such easy logistics, amazing pianist AND alive and kicking and in the neighbourhood...I'll pay attention from now on.
Haha I was kidding..., referring to the "Brahms"part of your comment. Listened 2 Pogo/Brahms (1162/2) here at Youtube yesterday and I heard something vaguely reminding me of Brahms and kindergarten at the same time...

That's just a bunch of nonsensical hammering on piano keys. Kids do that very thing all the time. Sounds like shit.

I, too, mistook: Meant to refer to Brahms 118/2 Intermezzo of Pogo...an Epiphany

Ivo Pogorelich. You should hear his Brahms 188/2, et ceterae. It repays the effort

sorry,enlarging Brahms'work hugely here, typing mistake, I meant 76/2

I, too, never heard of him, but will look him up right now. 100% professional, perfect. Really compares favourably with Pogo/Brahms

Such magnificent Brahms--love his big bear hands!

I agree with you. Perhaps his thick fingers cause the "qualche nota falsa di troppo". But a real Brahms sound, as you say.
Musiklieber1 4 years ago
Grandi mani, dita grosse, suono brahmsiano e corpulento, qualche nota falsa di troppo. il 5° dito della destra va un po' dove vuole. Bravo

Amazing how this pianist masters so naturally such different styles (Chopin, Brahms, Prokofiev).
