  • God what a wonderful song this is! What the hell happened to music?

  • Excellent song!

  • A beautiful expression of love by an epic band

  • Sometimes the best songs are those that bring tears of joy or memory of people we loved and love...our whole life before our very eyes...This is one of them songs...I love the Moodies and thank them because they helped me get closer to my feelings at an age so fragile..when I was young...Thank you Moodies...

  • I bought this vinyl new when it was first released in 1972...still have it....this is a CLASSIC...

  • As I have once written the moody blues are not a band. they are THE BAND. All others are small compared to these.

  • @JJRamirodafonseca, you're SO right, they are the very essence itself of "the legend of a band", as 1 of their Greatest Hit compilations is aptly titled. I especially love watching their live clips of any sort from the 60's on, seeing them twice in concert myself. No matter how tired from the road, they just keep building steam until they are coming at you like an unstoppable freight train, & the beauty of their music takes you & the whole crowd into another completely different world! THE Band!

  • What a fabulous voice. And what other band on earth could pull off an accordian and the "la-la-la's" at the end of the song. Amazing. This band . . . no other comes close.

  • God, I miss this......what the hell happened to music!!!????

  • @midlifemikey Can't tell ya, but I will continue to live in "the land of make believe" for now.....

  • For my Gayle Ann...

  • Thanks for the download. Simply one of the most beautiful love songs ever written

  • inigualable son unicos en su genero, una banda que se mantendra por mucho tiempo..

  • the words spoken here are precious....if you realize this song was good to your heart.......thats all that matters.....................

  • LSD

  • all i can say is I love you so drive away all my hurt

  • Oh I'd give my life so lightly

    to my gentle lady

    give it freely and completely

    to my lady

  • for my true lady......I love you

  • Wonderful song. I remember the first time a heard it.

  • Great song from a great band. Takes me back to high school in Cheektowaga, NY.

  • I had the hardest time finding this song...when I finally found it...I rejoiced....one of my favorites indeed

  • 72, huh? That explains why it's not on the Isle of Wight DVD...Love this song the most by this great band, but there isn't hardly a loser to be found. Thank God they were not of age now because this type of music would not make it today. It's a sad commentary on where music has gone. I hope to live long enough to see the comeback of great bands like this.

  • erinnert mich immer an meine große liebe evi , but thats life.

  • I can't believe how much this makes me cry..

  • When I first heard this on the radio in the seventies, I didn't know it was a Moody Blues song. I thought it was the British National Anthem, and lol, I wanted to become British and sing this song for an antherm. It is pretty awesome.

  • The bridge that begins withs, "Words that you say when we're alone..." brought chills 40 years ago-And still does.

  • Jesus is the one I had to run to, as much as l love you. He loves you more. Ask him to show you truth and come into your heart.

  • One person does not have a lady in their life!

  • Just beautiful thoughtful simple Music. Love it.

  • The Moody Blues music does bring a peace and tranquility to your soul. Just listen to them. Magnificent music too go along with wonderful lyrics. I lost my father-in-law, my brother and my dad 2 years ago, within a 2 month period. . All great men in their own way. It was a very troubling time for all of us. However, I allowed myself too listen too this wonderful music. It helped immensley. Thank-you for this post.

  • @cloudjia You're right on the money. This and Isn't Life strange written by John Lodge are my two favorite songs by this great band. Gemini Dream is another great tune as well.

  • Beautiful song, reminds me of a love that I lost.

  • One of many great ones that bring back memories of the beginning love with my wife of 30 + years.

  • I saw the Moodies 5/5/11 here in K.C. Mo,I took my 31 yr. old daughter she said

    "They were Amazing"

    God Bless the Moodie Blues!!

  • @geehowdy1 Agreed

  • Great tune, one of my favorite love songs ever. Thank you for posting it.

  • How is it possible the Moody Blues are not in the Hall of Fame?

  • Hitting the cymbal like that I visualize the waves hitting the boat.

  • You're most likely correct about the politicians. It's best to just listen to the music and hell be dam'ed about this country & the world. 'Can't do anything about it anyway. Listen to the late 60's San Fransisco group.."It's a Beautiful Day". That will relax the spirit in us.

  • Ray contributed so much to The Moody Blues. This is one of his best. They're not the same band without him

  • @freak49 do you mean Mike Pinder? He wrote and sang this and used to be the mellotron genius behind this record.

  • We played this song as we signed the register at our wedding. A beautiful song.

  • I also agree . The moodies were way ahead of their time . They can bring you peace and love in your heart , and at times they can almost fold space and time with their pieces . SO sit back and take another sip my love ........

  • There can't be more than a dozen albums in the history of rock and roll that can hang with the genius of Seventh Sojourn

  • My first girlfriend's memories...9/28/73

  • saw them at the Albert Hall gig they recorded for the "Hall of Fame" release. This was the best song of the night by far...goodness knows why it never made it onto the album...

  • Oh how I love this song

  • my Sharons song who a sadly past away on the 6 / 09 taken away from us so young only 47 years old , died so quick god wantied her to look after us . and by god she has looked after me . after i broke my neck this last year

    ,

  • my Sharons song who a sadly past away on the 6 / 09 taken away from us so young only 47 years old , died so quick

    ,

  • @MrNodrog1954

Oh Man feel so sorry for your lost, this is one of the most great love song!!

  • OM MANI PADME HUM

  • this is for sharon , who past away in 2009

  • Will you all stop squabbling and just LISTEN and ENJOY ??

    SHEESE it's only a song!!

  • @buzlno1 what are you waffling on about theres no one squabbling here you moron people just expressing their feelings

    taffy

  • @davydmuluv60

Do you always express "your" feelings by calling names? Go back 5 months and read all the preschool squabbles! Most of those people were expressing "their" feelings about things other than the topic at hand!

Back off with your behind the keyboard vitriol! TWIT!

  • Say what you want about Justin's voice. RAY CARRYS THE DAY with the softest, warmest English lilt. I treasure MB live concerts we say WITH RAY!

  • wunderschön

  • Katia, we all read it. Would that you could know us and know what we feel for you.

  • Probably the most beautiful song they wrote

  • I love the Moodies, saw them in 1972 Perfect Concert!

  • Amazing song with amazing talent from a time when amazing was truely amazing. Seriously miss those times. When people actually played original music on real instruments. Progress ? SAD !!!

  • @kumhuiguitargirl This is a GREAT song !!!

  • The timeless beauty that is the Moody Blues. Elegance, Soft. Music you can make love to, cry to, remember to, and smile to. No band ever has been able to touch all the human emotions. Let alone do it in a single song. My family has known plenty of tragic since the mid 70's. The Moodies have been there to sooth our pain. I will be forever linked to this band.

  • @JessB96

Those words could have been mine.

My brother used to play this when I was 8 and he 9.

When I turned 9 our father died, and since we have xperienced a series of tragedies, none the least the loss of our mother last Summer.

This song reminds me of when things used to be naturally normal, and I had never imagined tragedy was ever going to enter my life.

light as it is it makes me want to cry.

I don't think anyone will ever read this , but there. I said it.

I miss al it represents to me

  • @katialeitao2004 saddened by your loss at 9, my dad died when I was 11. When I hear the Moodies my dad is in my heart. That will never change and God Bless the MB for giving us soundtracks for our lives that are uplifting and heartwarming. Amen. When I read your post...I cried..for you.

  • @bestinsigns

What a kind reply. I am very sorry for your loss too, and I have some idea of what you may have gone through. How old are you now? I am 41 today. This song is just so all encompassing, the long wave it sends...

I am touchedthat I made you cry, I was not aware of the strenght of my words, though my heart was so full of meaning when I wrote..Thank you for reading and understanding. Love to you, Katia

  • @JessB96

Jess, I just love the way you put it. It is exactly that. My family has had its share of tragedies and it is true that the moody blues somehow seem to embrace it all with their all-encompassing gesture of music.

They have history, present. past, culture, individuality, family, shared experience, passion, collected gentleness, pacience, the passing of time, sadness understanding, a sense of human complicity... My father is present in this voice. Moody Blues...Timeless company.

  • One of the best love songs ever written. I married my wife when this song was popular. It reminded me how much I loved her!

  • This song just makes me cry it is so beautiful..

To be loved like that must be heaven..

  • I remember singing this song to a girl I was so enamoured of ..in college...after a cast party... so sweet.

  • This song is to beautiful for words

No wonder it was the b side to Im just a singer in a rock and roll band.

  • I love you guys. My first husband and I are re-correcting, I want to be with him; I love you again. I am praying that we will be again. I am love again, for our lady . Please give us together, my pretty again lady.

  • I have always liked the Blues for their compositions. There is no group like them. I wish that I had the chance to see them.

  • at last my ports in view, now that i've discovered you x

  • So glad I have all of their albums... be a very sad day without them

  • Think you .. every day I am comeing closer to god ...

  • British rock invasion was not just the Beatles, Stones, etc, it was fantastic groups like the Moody Blues.Blues. All their albums were great beyond measure. It's too bad that you never hear them played on the radio. Even Oldes stations never play music like this. A real American shame! [November we'll overthrough The scum Obam-unists and freedom will return!!!].

  • @amceagle1 Yeh I loved Dave Clark Five, Hollies, and and other British bands that were better than the Stones and were as good as the Beatles. Alan Parsons, Pink Floyd

  • @amceagle1 Your post sounded nice up until the end. And yes, the radio plays The Moody Blues, but it's always the same stuff, Nights In White Satin and Tuesday Afternoon. But us fans know they are way much more than that and really, that's ok with me. I can enjoy them without hype. Now, if you seriously think "freedom" will return just because Obama is gone, you negate all the things you just said about the Moodies in the begining of your post. All politicians are the same, they suck.

  • @amceagle1 i agree, they play the other bands of this time to death. well, except procol harum and that..

  • @amceagle1 i agree, they play the other bands of this time to death. well, except procol harum and that..

  • @amceagle1 So sorry to inform... liberals like the Moody Blues-and freedom too. Sorry to disappoint.

  • @amceagle1 Dude, politics? Really? Can you at least enjoy the music long enough to stop playing "blame the president" for a few minutes?

  • @amceagle1 AMEN AMEN & AMEN

  • @amceagle1 Agreed ..the Moody Blues are great! Except the scum are the Rethug tea-baggers.

  • @amceagle1

    Good music. Agreed.

Oh, and The United States was screwed well before the Obama Administration. Obama is merely a ding on a rusted jalopy. And you complain about the dents...

  • I cried the night my husband sang me this song....I'm so blessed....

  • Ask me how much I love the Moody Blues!!! When all my friends were listening to Ozzie, this is what I was enjoying….ahhhhh

  • God .. this song is so good .. it sould have been the song .. to the next star tark movie....

  • ...this song kills me too, for my lady...so many emotions, such an appropriate tune.

  • Tis the haunting sound of Celtic music. Does ones ears quite well, no? Moody Blues forever.

  • just a great song...it reminds me of times gone by...

  • i'm only 16 years old, but me and my mom both agree on one thing-this song has a very strange, almost haunting mood to it. it's so beautiful yet haunting at the same time, it gives me the chills everytime i listen to it. my heart starts to ache too, strange huh? must be the song's beauty and meaning.

  • @dudesohardcore The song represents the feeling of every man that has truly loved his woman and understand what God intended to have a man and woman union and no one know better the he. Give it freely and completely!

  • I agree completely, for my wife: For My Lady!

  • I miss it. Sends me right back to high school.

  • This is a masterpiece from Ray Thomas. It is really a beautiful song. I always think of my wife, who has been with me for 20 yrs, whenever I listen to it.

  • nice love song

  • es preciosa esta cancion....me acuerdo mucho de la universida de ingenieria civil.,estoy felizmente casado y dile al tiempo que vuelva, gracias por tener este medio...attem.

  • One of the greatest love songs ever!

  • I can't think of many bands where I can still remember the lyrics to these songs from 35 + years ago!

  • Another great Moody Blues tune that melts the years away and brings me back to my high school days.Whoever posted this.Thank You !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The epitome of a beautiful song. I could play this all day long. Moody Blues are surreal and deep.

  • This is the song that my wife and my father danced to while I was dancing with my wife's mom at our wedding 22 years ago. My wife and I danced to "New Horizons"

  • Sung at our wedding in 1974. Seems like yesterday.

  • @oriskany God bless you are so lucky or blessed!

  • To my wife of over 25 years....thank you for being ."..my gentle lady..." that has always quited my restless soul...all I can say is I love you soooooooooo..."

  • When I was a tennager I thought of Ray's songs as sickly and his style was out of date, but still listened to him and decades later I remember every detail ofn this song., which is really a masterpeice. Thanks ray for this contribution to the world.

  • all my moodies maddness began with this song around 1978 ...its still special for me up to this day..Thank you Ray

  • I sang this song to a girl i love, and we've been dating now for about 4 months

  • every song the moody blues did was a masterpiece!!

  • Hi, Thanks! I'm glad you got to see Ray do his thing! He surely is "The Legend"!!

  • PETER AND HIS LADY LOVE THIS, THANK YOU

  • In my view this is the greatest love song of all time. The words, the voice and the music are just brilliant, beautiful and peaceful. Set sail before the sun. feel the warmth that's just begun... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  • I never sang it to my lady and I can sing - somewhat - and we were wed in 1973 and we are still together. I will always get tears in my eyes when I listen to this. It's really, really good stuff!!

  • Bought "Seventh Sojourn" in 1973, my very first Moody Blues LP. Haven't got tired of the band yet and their long lasting music...

  • i sang this song to my bride in 76. we got devorced in 96.

  • i sang this too my lady in 77 and were still together it must be the song it aint my singin!

  • i sang this too my lady in 77 and were still together it must be the song it aint my singin!

  • @stolencar100 maybe it was your sense of humor too..lol

  • @dudemeisterSC thanks dude for the comment, if you could see what lifes done to my youthful good looks you know that my lady also has a great sense of humour just to stay with me!

  • I,d give MY life so lightly to MY gentle lady I sang this to her in 77 and hey next month is our thirtieth wedding anniversary so it must have worked!

  • the sweetest thing you could say to your lady

  • Ray Thomas was the backbone of the Moodies

  • @jadegreenkaty Ray was the man! God bless him!

  • Does anyone hear the guitar string break @ 1:32?

  • yeah, I heard it ! wow, never noticed it before.. but they kept on singing !

  • Though very exciting, I don't think they broke a string. You can hear that sound all the time when playing a guitar. When using coil wound strings (basically not nylon), if you move your hand too fast while touching a string you'll make a kinda zippering sound. Which is what I believe this is.

  • When people ask me what my most fave song is I always cringe...as i have so many But!!! when they ask what I feel is my most romantic song is I always say "For My Lady" Its absolutely flawless!

I agree with many others that the Moody Blues are/were brilliant Another I adore is "The Story in Your Eyes"

  • I agree. This is one of the most beautiful love songs of all time and the Moody Blues first seven concept albums are amongst the best albums of all time. If I make it to heaven I believ they will be playing Moody Blues music there. Peace.

  • @makingsense53 I agree with you on The Moody's first 7. Something to be learned from their music, and it could change the world...if people would listen.

  • How very, very beautiful....there's no voice like his...

  • It almost makes me cry knowing that there will never be anyone even close to the Moody blues! I mean, it's a finite thing-no more coming. Sad.

  • This sounds so much like an old time sea chanty. I think that was the intent of the Moodys.

  • one of my favorite songs

  • Muy bonita cancion... me recuerda a un antiguo novio de mi infancia....

  • Beautiful song and great video. The Moodies are one of the greatest bands of all time.

  • Moody Blues on yksi ehdottomia suosikkejani kautta aikojen!!!

  • Beautiful beyond words.

  • great song!, long live the moody blues!

  • Caught the Moody Blues in concert this year. I miss Ray Thomas and his flute, though. All the Best, Ray!

  • Pure bliss !

  • Oh what a sweet song, haven't heard it in so long. They sure don't write them like this anymore

  • What a Great Love Song! Thanks Ray!! Nobody does it better!!

  • Comment removed

  • A beautiful song, its really warms my heart.

  • There is no Moody Blues without Ray Thomas. God Bless you Ray. Your with us always!

  • @huntingun1 . .saw them thrice . .Ray was AWESOME . . last time poor fella could barely get around . .his stool doubled as a walker . .but when he did this song and when he did the flute on Legend , ,and a dozen others . .the pinnacle of positive inspiration . .God has blessed us through him . .

  • @huntingun1 Ray's BOX SET is out!!!! YEA!

  • @huntingun1

Yes it is sad that Ray got ill and cant tour with band they are more popular than ever and busy touring.it was amazing that Justin found the girl from Mississippi but yes we all miss Ray and Mike who had enought on the road took off to have time for his family Mike is badly missed too but I am greatful the band plays on

  • @huntingun1 i miss Ray too.

  • I have a 2CD set of the Moody Blues' greatest hits, sadly this song is not on it.. it's surely one of their best that I remember..

  • Such a sweet, simple love song I have always liked. The Moody Blues are one

of my favorite progressive bands, along with Chicago. Attended a concert not so long ago with both performing together.

    Magnificent Musicians!!

Thank you for this little, beautiful gem. - Penny

  • I had this done at our wedding in 1974. The group I invited to do it nailed it dead on, even brought a Moog to make it right.

  • Ahhhh.....Beautiful!!
