  • schläft der kobold..:D:D:) this song is pretty amazing :) espacially in icelandic!

  • I've actually heard these lyrics sung before!

I'm not certain where (probably a dream, long story).

  • JEG HELD AÐ VANDAMÁLIÐ HJER SJE

    AÐ STREINGIRNIR Á LANGSPILINU

ERU OF LÁGT STILLTIR, & ÞEGAR HANN

TEKUR OF FAST Í STREINGINA, ÞÁ

SVEIBLAZT ÞEIR OF MIKIÐ, & LANGSPILIÐ

HLJÓMAR EINS & AÐ ÞAÐ SJE FALST.

  • @IGOROZKARSKY Takk

  • I THINK THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT

THE STRINGS ON THE LANGSPIL ARE

TUNED TOO LOW, SO WHEN HE PLUCKS

THE STRINGS TOO HARD, THEY SWING

TOO MUCH & SOUND OUT OF TUNE.

  • Actually two songs rolled into one. The second song as a trad "sånglek" in Scandinavia known in Sweden as Björnen sover (The Bear sleeps). In the 1790's swedish nationalpoet Carl Michael Bellman put new words to the music and turned it into a popular tavernsong known as Gubben Noach.

  • one note LOL

  • Twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang twang...

  • @BirdValiant lol!

  • funny song

  • Gamli Nói??

    WTF?

  • I gave you TU for the singing, but the instrument can't be heard well. It looks like an appalachian dulcimer.

  • I was working on that museum last sommer :)

  • *shudders*

  • you can only hear the drone note :( ansans vesen

  • It looks like a langeleik, the Norwegian zither, and it appears not to have been tuned. Norwegian players use all the strings.

  • @irateofwatford Not as melodic as I had hoped.

  • Unfortunately the single drone string note is overpowering the melody string, which you can't really hear much at all.

  • hi i live in iceland and thats not a traditional instrument i have lived here for 45 years and never seen that

  • Song is fantastic but it could just be me thinking this but it sounds like he's pretty much plucking the same note throughout the song.

  • holy crap...I think I had a past life fdlashback just now...

  • I met this gentleman last month when I visited Iceland, he showed me how to spin horse hair, and played these songs. The museum is fantastic, thank you for this video!

  • hmm. Sounds rather untuned, but needless to say, it's simple yet briliant. :D

  • Hahaha, the song he's singing is a norwegian/scandinavian children's song called Gubben Noa, just with different text

  • This Instrument is called Langspil.

  • interesting! what is the second song he sings? there is a finnish children's song called ukko nooa (about an old man who leaves his bag on a nail when he goes to sauna; you can find it here on youtube^^), and the music is the same :D

  • @xanaSanna: It's called Gamli Nói (Old Noa). There are many verses, all of which tell stories of how he fails at everyday activities. In one he's driving a car but doesn't know how to steer and breaks the gears. In another he's watching children and puts them in a box...

The original song is swedish, by Carl Michael Bellman.

  • This is pretty cool n__n

  • The instrument looks a lot like a Pennsylvania Dutch (Pennsylfanisch) dulcimer.

  • Sounds sometimes very similar to a old mexican folk song (la guadalupana)

  • I like the unique sound and simple brilliancy.

  • 1: It's VERY old

2: It's probably not been tuned, maybe not...it's a simple piece of instrument.

3: Perhaps the camera can't catch the sound very well (just guessing).

I admit there's a weird sound that can be heard but you can still hear faint tones around 0:22

  • Very interesting.

  • It's Þórður!!

  • I've met that guy!....He works at Skogafoss

  • It is so unique, it has a Oriental quality to it, yet being so original at the same time. Wonderful, I love to hear that lived voice he sings and plays in. Love this.
