There is noooooo fucking way this is Death grind, the song structures are too long for this to even pass as grind. I guess Cryptopsy is death grind too?? Gimme a fucking break, this actually has real song structure. This is just wayy to creative to put it in one genre, this mixes brutal death metal, melodic death metal, Prog, ambience and world music all at once. Something that sounds NOTHING like Deathgrind sooo idk where the fuck you guys are getting that idea from
@Headbanger9000 Well, Blastbeats are originally an element of Grindcore. So theoretically you can call every Death Metal band which uses blastbeats Deathgrind
@OldCryptopsy I've listened to Death quite alot over the last ten years thank you. If the only thing you can say about this album is that it is "blast beat bullshit" I suggest you listen to the whole album and some more Death Metal in general, cos your obviously full of shit.
@OldCryptopsy Your name is "OldCryptopsy", and you're calling Lykathea Aflame blast beat bullshit? Ah, nothing like a good bit of irony to brighten a bad day.
@snuif9 Haha I know, older Cryptopsy is probably the most similar band you could possibly relate this two. The drumming is practically the same. Actually, this has a few less blasts than None so Vile.
@iorost "I think this entire song is Db phrygian dominant. <---My guess"
Typically, Db phrygian dominant defaults to C#, rather than Db. Enharmonically it makes no difference, but diatonically it is easier to write it in C#, due to the accidentals.
C# D E# F# G# A B C#
Db Ebb F Gb Ab Bbb Cb Db
Most people prefer to use as few double accidentals as possible ;-)
you can often tell how good a band is by the sort of fans it attracts, you can look at the comments for any Aflame song and the level of musical commentary speaks for itself, utter genius
@1Heretic Both bands came out almost at same time. Nile is Death Metal with egyptian influences. Lykathea Aflame is Deathgrind/really, REALLY Brutal Death Metal (think Cryptopsy), also with influences. Also, both "Black Seeds of Vengeance" and "Elvenefris" came out in 2000, just with a few days of difference. So do your research, before making an jackass of yourself.
PS: Lykathea Aflame is 1000000 times better than nile, imao.
@WolfieboyMachi You are entitled to your opinion. Just be aware that's it's incorrect on the same level as Flat-Earthers. Tomas Corn's performance is among the finest in all of metal. The mix isn't the greatest, but it highlights the power and importance of the drums in the song.
I've had my copy of this album for eight or nine years and the name change and female vocalist is old news as are any other updates you'd be able to find on the interwebs. I assumed the new album was never going to happen but Elvenefris was so brilliant I don't care how long it takes- I'll always be interested to hear their next album. Same goes for Thorns' new album. This shit is classic.
Well they are rare. They are basically/almost out of print and the band does not exist in this form now. They changed their name and so fourth. If you buy from the record label then the cd will be real. Atleast mine is.
This is some of the heaviest stuff I've ever heard, and I've heard a great deal of death metal and grindcore; thus I don't say it very much that song x is among the heaviness stuff I've ever heard. The drumming is very technical and insane. I would love to have the album someday, but it seems like a rare find. A re-release wouldn't be a bad idea, because the songs I have heard off this are insane and awesome.
I found their album for a good price price on ebay, I'm not sure if it is legit tho :p If not it is at least an exact copy so I don't really care. Btw, they just reformed, if you didn't know it yet.
They reformed? That's very interesting. Where can I read about it? All I knew about them was that since they had changed their name to Lykathe (that's info through Encyclopaedia Metallum).
Tomas Corn announced their being back together on the Derek Roddy board, he has an account there. There hasn't been any news since tho. It's just like fucking Gorguts: announce a new album already!
I have it on soulseek as well, but am not on that often. I actually bought a physical copy when you still could, and was ripped HQ VBR by me. Send me a message. I will upload a torrent soon.
Where can i download this, I am searching really hard for a torrent. I hate downloading , I'd rather support the band - but this is just impossible to find.
Anybody send me a message with a d/l link for the album, Would be greatly appreciated.
Revived in Lykathea, in that exhausting and dazing embrace, discomposure entered me. And I opened my heart and bared the yearning and the wish buried from the light for aeons. I felt connection and allurement that I will not withstand. I awakened to Elvenefris and heard the calling. The gate will be found, the key will be forged. My heart I will present to you being cleared of a poisons of Lykathea that exorcise us to idleness and condemn us to pain.
@FutileExistence All I know is that he cited "permanent neurological problems in [his] right foot."
I don't know enough about neuroscience to really hazard too much of a guess, but it's possible he developed sciatica and drumming made it a hell of a lot worse. Then again, sciatica's kinda on my mind right now because I strongly exacerbated mine yesterday.
@FutileExistence Nope; my left hip's been giving me trouble for a while, and I did some stupid shit at the gym a few days back that turned an annoying ache into something excruciatingly painful. I feel fine now, but at this point I'm pretty sure that I'm going to have to stretch (etc.) the area daily if I want to keep competing in my sport (powerlifting).
nah... it just feels a bit hard, its been getting better. Plus I'm not the type to rely on pills and other forms of medical treatment (except when it gets bad), I give myself some time.

@tcktrc
It's not that he's technicly skilled. He is. But the drumming is way too progressive and weird compared to the rest of the material.
And with the mixing being what it is, it doesn't exactly help.
