  • It is similar but the show is not perfect!

  • is being a forensic like reid from the show Criminal Mind

  • Said perfectly!

  • there is certainly a difference ph.dmission..sociopaths are narcissistic/machiavellian...gradiose, with an "ends justifies the means" mentality...they would kill if they had to, but do not possess the same ragefilled murderous impulses or hedonistic bloodlusts that a psychopath displays. As the doctor mentioned they sometimes exhibit both traits...psychopathy/sociopathy. A full blown psychopath is much easier to detect than a sociopath though...sociopaths have more control over impulses.

  • Interesting - This is really the first I've heard that Sociopaths and Psychopaths are separate entities.

I wonder if Dr. Robert Hare would agree, out of curiosity? I'm inclined to think he would, but I may be incorrect.

  • Where I studied that is the going theory and the one I subscribe to, but as with so much, there is always someone who will disagree. As for Dr. Hare, I am not sure!

  • Oh my god you are VERY attractive!!!

  • Criminology and Psychology, Good luck!

  • Hello,

I'm wanting to be a Forensic Psychologist. I'm currently attending college for Behavioral Sciences. What other types of majors are good for this type of career. I'm wanting to get a Doctorates. Thanks!

  • That is one career as are many others you would be suited for. Study hard. Continue solving puzzles, and if in a few years you still want to be a Forensic Psych, go for it!

  • I am 14 years old and I am positive that I am especially intelligent when it comes to analysing situations, hence I can "think outside the box". Would you recommend being a forensic psych?

  • my names better then yours lol.

  • I am looking into grad schools right now to get a phd in forensic psyc.. do you have any reccomendations

  • I am looking into grad schools right now to get a phd in forensic psyc.. do you have any reccomendations?

  • Great! Best of luck! I guess it all depends on what area you want to go in - UCLA, Northwestern, Univ. of Florida, there are many.

  • It can be :), when there is success, not every case is successful....Thank you, I look forward to working one day with you as my colleague!

  • Thank you : ) I think i'll look into it. It must be gratifying to know your saving other people by catching these criminals. Good work and best of luck to you. Your inspiring.

  • You are amazing and very very beautiful but you have such a gentle way of explaining such a complex subject that you make me want to go to school and study this. very very intelligent loved the vid!

  • Thank you. I hope you do go to school, we can always use new eyes and ears to give different perspectives and profiles! Do look into school and good luck!

  • Thank you :). Study hard, pay attention, read as much as you can on abnormal and criminal behavior and learn to if you have not already, to trust your gut! It's like putting together a giant puzzle! And solving is fun and rewarding. Best of luck to you!

  • OMG, you r like a lady sherlock holmes, but I guess u have to b very detail n that type of work. Im n school 4 criminal justice, any words of wisdom 4 me?

  • Hi Doctor, I stumbled upon this video and I have found this one and others very helpful in clearing up some questions I had. I am a 2nd yr psychology student (in the Dominican Republic) and I am planning on concentrating my studies in both forensic psych as well as neuropsychology (in the US). Im interested in both and hope to be able to connect them somehow, if you could give me your opinion on this career path, since in this country neither specialties are very "popular" so to speak...

  • Thank you.

Study as much psychopathology, deception, behavior psych, developmental psych - all good basics classes to build both paths on. Read everything in the fields you can, and if you can try to do an internship in either or both fields. I think your choice of a path is great! :) But then I would! LOL

  • :). I thought Rh was overreacting as well :), thanks!

  • the comment below was to Rh1no1.

  • I personally think that you're overreacting

  • As can be...

  • Hi, I'm a mum of two from the UK and I am currently waiting to start a degree course in Criminology.I have a profound interested in criminology and forensic psychology.I hope to eventually spen some time in the US as i find the difference in culture fasinating and would love to do some study over there. Have you any advice or recommendations you could make?

  • Read as much as you can. make yourself an expert. If possible do what we call a ride along to get some field and real world experience and then come to us and offer you opinion in a "nice" way, LOL to help! Good lucj to you!

  • hi Doctor am currenly a college student in the uk and i am finishing my a level to go onto uni to get a bsc in psychology and i am torn between becomeing a forensic psychologis and a chlinicall psychology i know i have alot of years of studying but that dosnt bother me however i am just worried that i wont be able to cope with murder sence even tho i really want to do forensic psychologist and what do u do everyday since as there isnt murders every day so wht is your daily rutine

  • See if your constables will allow you to go to a murder scene with them to see how you feel about it.

On most days, you reveiw records, write reports, can work in family law, profile criminals, and so much more.

  • Hi Doctor, I'm currently doing research for a show i am writing - i'm a mystery entertainer - I found your videos very insightful, thankyou.

  • You are welcome!

  • Hello Doctor, Im currently about to complete an associates in human services. My plans are to achieve a bachelors of forensic psychology, a masters of social work as well a masters in art therapy. Finally, I'd like to earn a doctorate in forensic psychology. I think the combination of these degrees would help me get an interesting niche in the field of forensics and working with children. Can you give me some of your thoghts on my education path? Id really appreciate it. Thanks!!!!!

  • Wow! Good choices. Creativity is so very important in life - STpehen King is a great example, so art therapy as a part of Forensic Psych is an excellent idea! You will have a great niche!

  • I was conned by a sociopath and it is not pretty. Thats why i'm doing research on these type of people. They are heartless persons who are to destroy another person and they get thrills out of it. Even their own children they use as pawns in their schemes.

  • Exactly! So sorry for your losses.

  • so interesting! how long have you been doing this for? how many years of schooling?

  • I have been in Forensics for 17 years, and schooling: You need a Bachelors, Masters, and I have a Doctorate as well, so, that would be at least 8 years if you accelerate your classes, otherwise about 10 to 12 years. Plus I did a residency.

  • Very educational, you have sort of my dream job, although I study philosophy and plan my masters degree on philosophy of religion (it's weird isn't it?), BUT as a suggestion for topic, if I may, could you please explain what a sociopath is exactly, where is the line between habitual law breaker and mild sociopath. Wouldn't all killers and rapists be sociopaths?

  • I will do a video on the sociopath vs the psychopath. In the meantime, are all killers and rapists sosciopaths? No.

  • This is good stuff. Most of the material isn't new to me since I'm an aspiring criminologist and I've read entire books on the subject, but it's well presented here and a good introduction for beginners.

  • Thank you. I set it up as an Intro. Good luck to you in your career!

  • Of course not. Yes, there can be a dark side to us all. Body language is a good profile took as are other things. But using one's personal vendetta or jelaousy is not a reason to torment someone who did NOT commit a crime. And I am usually a prosecutions's witness.

  • You don't have to be a sociopath or a psychopath to commit a crime or do ill unto others. We all have a little darkness in us. It's just that a majority of us have the descency to leave the light on.

Oh, and police and asset protection personel are taught to profile by body language.

  • Nice cleavage, babe..

    5 stars!

  • If you want the mind, Psychology, if you want CSI, criminology. Some of it will overlap. I am a Doctor of Psychology.

  • Which major do I have to study to deal with forensics?

  • Geographic and mathematical?

I have great resources, I will see if any fit this bill.

  • Very interesting, thank you for taking the time to produce another educational and entertaining video.

You would not happen to know a good book on geographic profiling and the math involved by any chance?

  • Good, thank you, and good luck to you!

  • Good videos. This is what I'm hoping to study at university so its been good to hear from an already qualified forensic psychologist :)
